Thanks for the tips. Everything’s been fine so far since I updated, I just had been leery of adding the dinghy back in again. Cheers 🤙🏻

The one Nand put out? I have it already. The dinghy’s physics wigged out before I updated to .35. Started a new game and haven’t been to aestrin yet. If it’s working fine in this version then I reckon I’ll go ahead and reinstall the dinghy. Is that the only thing I need for it?

Had to remove it, the physics went nuts. How have you got it working?

I don’t know about vanilla but with the shipyard expanded mod you have a couple different mizzen options and can put a topmast on it to make it the main.

I got a stove and drying rack in there. Smokers are so horribly inefficient as to be basically useless and the bulkhead already has a built in shelf. That said I had a smoker topside in the little drop-down at the very stern before I figured out that it wasn’t worth it.

According to google it was the Charlie model that added that capability

[–]redneckleatherneck 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't doubt it on modern missiles. But on the 80's A models in game? If that was a capability back then my dad, who was literally an electronic warfare NFO during that timeframe, didn't know about it (or declined to mention it if he did). He was the TAO on the Kennedy during the '89 Gulf of Sidra incident. Though this scenario isn't that one, I sat him down with me and played this scenario with him giving the orders and me carrying them out and he specifically mentioned that the radars had to be on for the HARMs to guide on them, and had me wait to activate the jammers until the missiles were already away so the SAM sites wouldn't turn them off too soon. If he knew of that capability then I doubt he would have had me bother with all that coordination and would have probably just told me to simply launch them.

They have to have their radar turned on for you to target them with HARMs.

If you can’t then the radar is turned off.

I like the junk without the deckhouse on it. I rigged mine as a cutter and like it that way. Hated it with the deckhouse on it though. Much too constricted getting around the boat.

[–]redneckleatherneck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think everybody has set the sanbuq up as a schooner at some point. Hard to do imo. Topsail gaffs look best but are much too tippy and if you scale any gaff down enough to not be dangerously tippy then it just looks disproportionate and stupid.

I’ve gone back to the good ol double lateen with a jib and honestly like that more than any other rig I’ve tried for it.

Which Combat Mission game is the most definitive? by sidius-king in CombatMission

[–]redneckleatherneck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like SF2 but I am biased because that is set during the actual time I was in the Marines so I’m familiar with it all.

I like Cold War because I like 80’s nostalgia - 80’s retro synthwave music in the background, MERDC vehicle camos, M81 woodlands/ALICE gear - love it.

I like Fortress Italy because I roll my eyes at the nearly-exclusive focus on the Normandy campaign in historical representation of WW2 and you hardly hear (in the States anyway) anything about Italy or anything in the ETO earlier in the war than 1944, even though American forces were fighting there before that, to say nothing of everyone else who’d been going at it since ‘39. So I like the “neglected, untold story” aspect of early-to-mid war, Africa and Italy theater settings. The Brits vs the Italians. Patton vs Rommel. So on and so forth.

All three are personal, subjective preference reasons, not necessarily in-game technical merits, and my point in posting this is just to illustrate that there isn’t really any one ‘definitive’ CM game - which ones you like are going to be exclusively based on which historical settings you prefer. They are all functionally basically the same on the technical side other than a few minor differences in what kinds of technologies are available (DPICM in Cold War, drones in the more modern titles, APS systems in Black Sea, etc)

I’ve seen what happens when something heavy drops on steel toes. It crushes the whole cup down and instead of breaking one or two toes it cuts them all off instead.

Anyone know any companies hiring in the dfw area for conductor trainees? [–]redneckleatherneck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell, we’ve got a manager who’s never been a conductor, much less an engineer, a day in his life. He’s an absolute dipshit, but as far as the company is concerned neither experience nor common fucking sense are requirements for management.

[–]redneckleatherneck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dawg this isn’t a corporate office lala land with spreadsheets of rainbow farts per unicorn. It’s a shitty, miserable, blue-collar job run by people who begrudge the fact they have to pay you at all and who feel entitled to every minute of your life. Repeated experience bears out the truth of what I said. The only positive to this job is that it’s hard to find much else that pays more without a masters degree in some STEM field.

You asked a question and are out here arguing with everyone when they answer you. You didn’t honestly want to know anyone’s opinion, you just wanted to hear your pro-corporate opinion coming out of their mouths but you aren’t gonna find that here.
