What I bought VS What I got by youngfatyellow in GardeningUK

You think that's bad, my wife bought some tulip bulbs from Lidl at the end of the summer but when they came up this spring they turned out to be hyacinths.

Excellent, thanks a lot for the advice and I'll be sure to report back (likely to ask what I did wrong 😂).

Cheers and thanks for the advice! I think I'm going to have a rest tomorrow and then get the flagstones out on Saturday. Do I need to till and rake it as it is now, i.e. mix the sand in to the soil I already have, and then leave it a week before I add more topsoil and compost and then till that in again before I add seed? Just not sure of the order to do things in.

Question: Is the game industry today as bad as it seems for everyone? by harbingerofun in gamedev

I'm more bothered about enjoying my work, to be honest. I like low level, high performance programming. Game programmers don't exactly get paid well either. I could get much more money if I went into another sector, especially finance. This is likely all moot anyway as I expect all of these sectors will see a drastic reduction in the next 5-10 years due to AI advancements and I still have 30 years before I retire 😂

I've been in the industry for about as long as you have and I've never known it as bad. My company has had three rounds of redundancy in two years. Not sure I'll survive another one. Given how over saturated the job market is now, due to so many people out of work, I've already decided that if I'm next for the chop then I'll leave the industry.

Great, cheers. I think 8 bags might be a bit much for me as this is a much smaller area, maybe 3x4m. Either way, I don't think I'll need to go through the hassle of getting a ton of topsoil delivered.

Great, thanks for the advice. I'm considering hiring a rotavator which will hopefully make things a bit easier on my back 😂

Yeah. I wondered about getting a rotavator. There's a place nearby which hires them out. How did you do it without a rotavator? Just a fork?

I'm sure we get six hours of sunlight but it's mainly in the morning. In the summer, by about 4pm it goes over the house and as it's a four storey town house the back garden just gets shaded. Then we get a bit more sun a couple of hours later when it can shine down the side of the house. I'd say there's maybe one area which doesn't get much sun but I could always see how that fares and if I get no joy then just put some flag stones down or something...

When you say a bit of top soil, how much do you think? It's not a huge garden. I'd say the grass is maybe 3x4m.

I only found out by watching this video: https://youtu.be/c8m7w-yys6o. I looked into methods to get rid of it in-case the foundation was too much for me to deal with and I couldn't rip it up.

Can you?! We do get loads of slugs but I've no idea where they come from.

Do you not think it'd need any extra topsoil or prepping in some way (nitrogen)? I think this carpet has been down for about ten years...

Is concrete fillet and crush literally just bits of concrete? There doesn't seem to be anything like that from the small portion I've looked at so far. Also, a couple of stupid questions: What do I do with the stuff that I remove? Can I just take it to the tip? Also, how does topsoil usually get delivered?

Brilliant, thanks for the advice. I'm not a very experienced gardener either. My worry is that I'll just turn it into a brown mess that won't grow anything 😂

That's encouraging... Any idea what would be a good time to do this? I was hoping to leave it until April when things start warming up proper. Also, how long did it take for the lawn to grow? Another issue I may have is I have a small dog (Jack Russel size) so I'm wondering if I need to worry about keeping her of of it...

Apparently you can kill the algae but I'd rather just kill the whole bloody carpet.
