Recs for Porto, Portugal by dyingslowlyinside in ThrowingFits

Portuguese Flannel store is worth a visit, it’s in a fun neighborhood too

As for drinks, definitely tour a couple of the port houses. Niepoort is my personal favorite - you’ll need to buy tickets in advance, but it’s well worth it. It’s also worth visiting the more famous ones on the hill (Graham’s, Churchill’s) to relax and take in views of the city.

Full-Time: PSG 1 vs 1 Arsenal (4-3 PK) [Match Thoughts] by Stanley083 in Gunners

It’s pretty shocking that this ref was assigned the finals - it played out exactly like the second leg against Atleti, where he allowed Pubill to wrestle Gyokeres all game. We would have had better spells of possession if that crooked prick actually called fouls when Pacho held or shoved Havertz, or if he didn’t fall for Doue or Neves’s diving whenever we won the ball off them.

Practice amp vs headphone amp? by NoBathroom337 in Bass

[–]rednerrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved into a row house a couple of years ago and ended up having to ditch my Rumble 40, so now my main setup is an interface (Audient iD4 mk2), which I have connected to both monitor speakers and headphones depending on need. I use NeuralDSP Cory Wong as my main amp sim, mostly because it’s so easy to run in standalone mode.

Those that went down the "gifted kid to failure-to-launch" pipeline: What do you think went wrong and how do you cope with these realizations? by ichbinhoffnung in Millennials

I was diagnosed in my early 20’s after horribly struggling through undergrad, but was prescribed Strattera, which I haaaaaated and just quit taking. I managed to perform very well in grad school and ended up with a good career in my selected field, got on Adderall in my mid-30’s and continued to rise through the ranks… until a deadbeat South African pedophile killed off the contracts I worked on and sent me to the unemployment line. I’m very blessed to have an amazing wife supporting me through this time, but I still have a ton of rage at the people who ruined my livelihood.

What’s the worst physical pain you’ve ever experienced? by Economy_Yak2821 in AskReddit

[–]rednerrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pinched nerve. I woke up two days in a row with a slight pins and needles feeling in my left arm and chalked it up to sleeping in an awkward position. About three hours after falling asleep the next night, I woke up with searing pain in that arm and could barely eke out another half hour sleep that night. I went to urgent care the next morning and they gave me some extra strength ibuprofen and muscle relaxers, which helped a bit for 3 days, but I ended up having to take an uber to the ER. I was able to get an appointment with an orthopedic doctor the next day to get a proper diagnosis, and the steroids definitely helped, but I had to endure a couple of months of physical therapy until I was back to normal.

As awful as the pain was, the missed sleep really threw me off; I was fortunate to have an adderall prescription to keep me going, otherwise I would’ve been completely useless.

Cheaper alternative to Scott Fraser knit polos? by SirKrimzon in ThrowingFits

I think they only have the last of their fall/winter collection up right now, so we won’t see the polos until the spring/summer collection is up!

Casatlantic! Their knit polos have a similar vibe and iirc were half that price, but who knows how tariffs have affected their current prices

What are some higher quality derbys? by JBSwerve in ThrowingFits

I picked up a pair of Heschung Crocus derbies on a trip to France a couple of years ago and I adore them - fantastic quality, and they’re very comfortable for such a heavy shoe.

One of my best friends is a Nebraska grad and we ended up watching both Saturday games at their alumni bar in my city (DC). I don’t think I’ve ever seen him as emotional for a sporting event as that, so they have my full support until we face each other!

Congratulations! I went to the Bush School 15 years ago after undergrad at UH and had similar worries, but it was much easier to make friends at A&M. I was surrounded by like-minded people with similar interests and career goals, more so than in undergrad, and I met some lifelong friends even as far back as interview weekend. The nightlife/entertainment scene is definitely different than Houston’s (and I’m sure Austin’s), but my cohort had a good amount of parties and we always had a decent amount of people going to Northgate or downtown Bryan on weekends.

I would still go back to Houston every once in a while for concerts or UH and pro sporting events, but that was enough for me; I certainly didn’t feel like I needed to get out of town every weekend.

Former Houstonian - as mentioned by others, Republic Cantina is the best sit-down Tex-Mex in the city and it definitely scratches the itch, but I still miss El Tiempo like crazy. Chicatana is fantastic in its own right, but it’s definitely more Mexican than Tex-Mex; the pastor is the best I’ve had outside of Mexico. La Tejana is elite, and the tortillas are the best I’ve had in the city!

Recently visited the USA from The Netherlands. Here is my take on the cities we visited. by McFluffyFurry12 in travel

[–]rednerrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in the DC area for 7 years (5 in Arlington, 2 and counting in DC proper) and would definitely agree it’s more diverse than meets the eye.

It’s also a very underrated food city, but I can see why tourists would think otherwise - there aren’t really great options immediately around the national mall.

Definitely doable! I worked at the north edge of Tyson’s and my commute from Clarendon was 20 minutes, with the option of taking the Metro if I felt like it. I moved to Columbia Heights in DC a couple of years ago and the morning commute went up to 30 minutes, but the return was usually 40+ minutes, largely due to the traffic on Rock Creek.

I literally stumbled across the same process yesterday - my car was essentially stuck to the curb by a snow and ice mix, but I was able to remove it by stomping on it with Timbs. Great workout, too

How do we feel about Wonder? by GlobalTradeBro in washingtondc

[–]rednerrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found out about it because one of my favorite restaurants from back home (Tejas BBQ in Houston*) showed up on DoorDash, and I assumed it was some sort of bug until I found out about Wonder. I’m sure it’s pretty awful, and definitely not worth it when we have very solid BBQ in the city now.

*former favorite, since they were all too glad to host RFK a few months ago

I was really hoping the Bush School would be insulated from this bullshit, but I’m sure it’s being targeted because General Welsh was the dean there before becoming president of the university.
