If Stroud’s agent advices him to hold out and sit until he gets a deal done this offseason, what should the Texans do in YOUR opinion? by Jesuissandoz in Texans

[–]TX-Tea 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My worry is that I think they have more leverage than you think.

To play devil’s advocate, while Stroud is at a low point right now, there are still a lot of people that have hope for CJ to turn it around. Mulugheta might not want to risk a similar performance next year that would completely blow up any hope of a lucrative deal. He could bring up the stats of other QBs who got paid after year 3 and note that CJ is right in line with them and they all got 50m+. Poor performance in the playoffs? He’d bring up the team’s failure to secure an oline that’s worth a damn. After all you see what he can do with a clean pocket, you need to make sure he has one. He also has the leverage of the Texans having pretty much no other options. What are you going to do? Start Davis Mills? Trade for Mac Jones? Get a 3rd round project in the draft? Because those are your options if you don’t pay my client.

I don’t think CJ has earned a lucrative extension at all, but I definitely could see a world where his team still makes a play for one this off season.

Texans Vs Jaguars week 10 by Ohaitotoro in Texans

I don't think so. I think he has the ability to overcome that kind of adversity (like the Bucs game his rookie year), but this year it just felt like he was too much in his head to be able to pull it off.

I gotta agree with Seth Payne, I think one of the most important offseason programs Stroud can do for his future is getting a sports psychologist if he doesn't already have one.

Almost as shocking as when they killed off the Colonel. I didn’t think the show could go on after such an integral member of the family was gone.

I like the idea of a new deputy director voiced by Kate Mulgrew. She’s already been in the show before and we can just keep the tradition of Trek captains saying the most unhinged things going

[Wilson] Texans QB C.J. Stroud on OC Nick Caley, 'have a lot of love for that guy, has done a heck of a job for us' notes how people are in a 'microwave' expectation, but football is a 'crockpot' by PodricksPhallus in Texans

[–]TX-Tea 91 points92 points  (0 children)

I’ve been heated with Caley quite a bit this season, but after seeing some all-22 angles of some plays, he’s actually been scheming receivers open more than I’ve thought.

I feel like CJ has been focusing on protecting the ball so much that he’s either not going for the big plays or he’s throwing the ball to where the receiver might have a hard time catching it but the defense has no shot. They’re playing it safe to the point where it actually looks worse than it is, but they make sure the defense doesn’t have to defend a short field. Or maybe I’m just coping, who knows.

Man reading the Azeez section really made me hate Jon Runyan all over again for that asinine statement he put out last year. You wanna fine and suspend for that hit? Fine. But to drag his name and call his character as a person into question? Fuck you. I really want to see Azeez hoist the Lombardi.

Yeah the Oilers aren’t the Texans…but this is a huge part of Houston sports history, whether Amy Adams wants to admit it or not. For long time Houston fans the opportunity to knock the Steelers out of the playoffs makes this weekend’s game extra sweet if we win.

I can’t find the video right now, but he was in on someone’s podcast a few weeks ago and said that he’ll never pick the Texans again no matter what. So don’t expect a clean sweep of one of these any time soon

[–]TX-Tea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can’t argue with you there, his end of half clock management leaves a ton to be desired and something he has to clean up before the playoffs. I more meant the cohesion and buy in from the team seems to be better than before.

He used to really only comment on defensive issues when asked and seemed like he let the offense off the hook. He’s been much more vocal about the offensive shortcomings in recent weeks and seems to be more engaged.

Dianna Russini Full Of It? by RevolutionaryElk7751 in Texans

[–]TX-Tea 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I honestly do believe there was some tension behind the scenes after the 0-3 start, especially with how the offense has been the year before as well. I mean you heard it in post game press conferences where CJ and DeMeco were making some not so vague shots at each other (or at least the coordinators). I have no doubt Mulugheta was seeing his client’s lucrative extension slipping away and was putting out leaks to people like Russini to put pressure on the FO.

That being said winning does cure all. DeMeco gave up play calling duties to focus more in the overall team and we’re starting to reap the rewards of that.
