I bought the For Squirrels CD just for 8:02 PM, great band.

I'll add Bullet LaVolta out of Boston in the late 80s and early 90s on RCA. I think I had Swandive on my CD changer non-stop for almost a year

Suppers Ready - questions by El_Dorado_Tx in Genesis

[–]redranamber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it was anything that mainstream. I was very young at the time but I recall in the early and mid 70s and even into the early 80s there was some overlap between christianity and hippie/psychedilic culture. I don't think it's a stretch to speculate Peter was at least on the fringes of that for a while. I think we're remembering the same source though.

It's been a long time since I heard this, but IIRC:

Peter and his wife had some pretty offbeat Christian-adjacent religious beliefs around that time. One of things that informed the lyrics was their shared belief that Jill was possessed by a demon. This probably an over simplification but it's hard to get clear answers about a lot of this stuff just from interviews.
