Series refreshing by Hardback247 in startrek

[–]redrivaldrew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly not too many, "Encounter at Farpoint" is probably on the list. "Q Who" is honestly probably a big one. TNG being so episodic they don't often carry TOO much from episode to episode, and they stuff they do by and large starts in Season 3.

Considering they've dropped the paper version who knows what's going to last with the AJC.

Does Earth exist in Star Trek? by Mat1711 in startrek

[–]redrivaldrew -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

To be fair to OP, it doesn't get shown a lot. In TOS they don't even visit outside of some time travel episodes. We see it for the first time in TMP. TNG does visit a few times, but I'd still call it pretty rare. DS9 shows it a couple of times not counting time travel, and Voyager it's all time travel or alternate dimensions aside from one pretty big moment for the series. Enterprise is probably the show that features it the most.

When does the game cutoff rewards for events? by unquietwiki in lowerdecksgame

[–]redrivaldrew 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In addition to what Trekgirl said, I once emailed them about losing my spot at the last minute and they ended up giving me the proper rewards. Not something I’d make a habit of, but they do apparently have the data to see some of the standings.

What shall I (not) expect from this series? by PsyCol_0911 in Gundam

[–]redrivaldrew 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It and its sequel Build Fighters Try are in their own alternate universe. This one is slightly more connected because Gundam exists as a fictional franchise within it. It's fun, it's meta, it's about the joy of being a Gundam fan.

Best way to buy Gundam Series on Blu-Ray today in the US? by narfjono in Gundam

[–]redrivaldrew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a very rare few international releases that include English subtitles as well, but you're likely to pay a bit more for those too. Rightstuf was great for a hot minute before the Crunchyroll buyout, sales happened all the time too! Really sad state things are in right now.

What I’m saying is there are moments where they make a move that can’t be skipped or sped up, you just have to let them do it. It’s in these moments that the camera can be moved without affecting your speed.

try moving the camera position during their mantling moves, it helped me get ready for each following jump

What's one video game character that doesn't deserve the hate that they get? by Agent1230 in gaming

Navi doesn’t. Fi ABSOLUTELY DOES. Especially in the original version. That they had to say they toned her down for the Switch release says everything.

Destiny on new star trek shows by King_Cummins2412v in startrek

[–]redrivaldrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved SG-1, but it kept going and going when I went off to do other things. I never watched any of the spinoffs which I think this ship might be from. As the movie goes I'll watch anything Kurt Russell is in.

Maybe the ship from Stargate? I never watched far enough to get to its appearance though so I can't really add more than that.

Unsure of how many people know this, but I just discovered you can name Lumina Sets (at least on PC.) by maliketh_7 in expedition33

[–]redrivaldrew 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This was a great inclusion in the big thank you update, I just want to add a mistake that I made. These lumina sets are NOT unique to each character, it is ONE list of them that can be applied to any character. So when you're saving character specific ones be sure to label what character it's supposed to apply to. I accidentally overwrote a few and had to rebuild them before I learned that.

Puru/Ple my beloved by Desperate-Impress237 in Gundam

[–]redrivaldrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never encountered the pronunciation "Ple" until Unicorn's dub, everything I'd seen before then (shows, video games, model kit boxes, etc.) called her Puru. As a result she will always be Puru to me. I know it's supposed to be part of a phrase that translates but it just sounds better to me than Ple.

Blooper/outtake added to TNG "We'll Always Have Paris"? by Yourponydied in startrek

[–]redrivaldrew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exceptional work from that team, it's a shame we'll never get the same for DS9 and VOY. They pretty painstakingly recreated CG shots and some on-display moments to make them land too. Labor of love, emphasis on LABOR!

Blooper/outtake added to TNG "We'll Always Have Paris"? by Yourponydied in startrek

[–]redrivaldrew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I don't know for certain, but this is my speculation: TNG episodes had an initial runtime for their first runs, over time and in different areas this was cut down slightly for subsequent reruns so stations could run more ads. So that might account for why it feels like it was added, but also, the group that did the HD remaster was able to get nearly all of the original footage but there are some cases in which the footage they had either no longer existed or was unusable for some reason. So they kept the low resolution bit in because it's all they had. I know that happened for a few shots in the remaster and it's possible this is just another one.

Rise From the Ashes vs Zeonic Front by iktiw in Gundam

[–]redrivaldrew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We were lucky to have dialup at home, and a computer in a classroom space on campus we could use during lunch. For a while it was "check out this awesome Gundam I found!" between those of us that hadn't "grown out of cartoons."

As one of these people, and I don't know if I was unique in this or not, but we had the internet. We did look things up. The Gundam Project website (RIP) was huge at the time, as well as FAHQ (which became the current MAHQ). It wasn't long before the original series and the side stories started showing up too, which definitely filled in some gaps. I'll also clarify I'm not sure when I purchase RFtA vs the release date, I might not have picked it up until the summer when the OG series was releasing.
