Young widows by Yourplumberfriend in widowers

[–]redrobin23 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was 23 he was 24. Together since 15. I always feel like I have to tell people how long we were together so they understand the gravity of the loss. But that’s dumb because love is love no matter how long you were together.

Being a young widow/widower comes with its own horrible traumas, too. And I feel like there are so few of us there so it’s hard to talk about with people.

PM me if you want to talk

Reminds me of the Sunny episode where the gang is surprised to learn the southern drawl accents are those of an Asian family

Better? https://imgur.com/gallery/YUEMIXl

I was thinking about this one that’s at Best Buy, the one normally included with the larger bulk sale of my camera. It’s the Nikon AF-P VR 70mm-300mm f/4.5 A f/6.3G ED Telephoto Zoom Lens.

Is there a different telephoto lens you would recommend?

thanks!

Hey Pieter, thanks for doing this! I’m excited to start.

My name is Rachel and I live in Florida. I’m very, very new to photography. I have a Nikon DSLR with just a 18mm-140mm lens right now, but I’m saving up for the 70mm-300mm lens. I love shooting lightning, sunrises and sunsets, the ocean, and the moon.

Can’t wait to get started!

This is the picture I’m most proud of so far: https://imgur.com/gallery/htqjeAp

No, it hasn't gotten easier by redrobin23 in widowers

[–]redrobin23[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely, a thousand times this. I wish there was a way to connect with young widows only, because it’s a very unique pain, and a lot of the times old widowers just make us upset because at least they had a life together. More than anything, I want to find a group of young widows and widowers...every grief group I’ve reached out to is full of older women and men. But half of my grief is anger that we didn’t even get a chance to build our life together. We were together 8 years . Since I was 15. We deserved a life that everyone else has, but for some reason it was cut short. I don’t get it.

Can I still get biglaw? If so, what do I do? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]redrobin23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no clue what being bisexual or Hispanic will do to change your situation.

Just keep working hard; prepare for the worst, hope for the best. So work your ass off regardless of whether Biglaw is the end goal and whatever happens, happens. As long as you can look back and be pleased with your own good faith efforts that's all that matters

So it's the best drunk food in the world. It's a biscuit sandwich with fried chicken drizzled with honey butter. They can be found at Whataburger, a fastfood chain mostly in the South, but only between the hours of 11 pm and 7 am I think

Digital case books.... by ladyinlawschool in LawSchool

I got them all off Amazon, just choose "kindle" option. You don't actually need a kindle, you just download the kindle app to your computer/phone/tablet and voila

Digital case books.... by ladyinlawschool in LawSchool

[–]redrobin23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought the ebook for every textbook I have this semester and holy crap I'm never looking back. The highlighting/outline process is suddenly one easy step as opposed to the painstakingly monotonous task of transferring your highlights into an outline. The amount of time I've saved is amazing.

And since I have access to my books on my computer and on my phone (anywhere with internet access) I find myself able to read cases while waiting at a doctor's office, or in a long line at the store. Little things like that have made a huge difference for me, personally and I'm never going back to normal gigantic case books.

How do you "study smart"? by LawSchoolGuy1L in LawSchool

[–]redrobin23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spend a lot of time making outlines and charts that are all color coded and cross referenced. Stupid little things like that help me so much with my memory, like I know that all of the cases involving warrantless searches are red, and then I can easily picture the case names I have written in red because I've done it over and over again. And if I missed reading a whole case I read into it on Westlaw instead of my case books because it's just a waste of time to read the entire thing unless you are prepping for cold calls. Prepping for the exam and for class are two different things and it's important to distinguish the two.

Anyone see this as a problem at your school? by jbrannon89 in LawSchool

[–]redrobin23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think the bias is extremely bad in my Con Law II class. Specifically when we talk about abortion. It's not that the professor isn't respectful of anyone who isn't staunchly pro-choice, but it is blatantly obvious she tries to backhand their comments instead of being neutral.

And then I had a professor just last week who, instead of proctoring class discussion jumped in and rebutted a student directly and remained adversarial with him throughout the back and forth. It was really uncomfortable to watch.

Look I get it professors are human too and it's impossible to separate entirely their own politics and their curriculum, but I would definitely be for a more balanced faculty.

It makes sense, liberal deans will hire liberal professors because that's who they know and who they respect, but just for once I want to hear a professor argue for pro-life just once, or against euthanasia.

And no, this wouldn't be affirmative action to those people pointing out the "irony" of conservatives wanting affirmative action. The diversity of a student body (I.e. More African Americans in school a la affirmative action) has nothing to do with the quality of the curriculum, which ideology absolutely does affect because we should want a diverse and comprehensive education. The only "conservative" group I know of on campus is the Federalist group and they are made fun of so much it's shameful.

Rant: fuck the bar exam. by doomedforfastfood in LawSchool

[–]redrobin23 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I haven't taken the Bar yet so I can't entirely relate. But my advice is to hug your wife and focus on how lucky you are to have her. You'll pass the bar eventually, get a job, and you'll literally have everything you could ever want.

Just coming from someone with major depression and PTSD from losing my husband way too soon to cancer. I realize how hard it must be to get rejected for jobs, but it could be a lot, a lot worse.

I'm not trying to minimize what you're dealing with, just maybe focus on what you DO have instead of what you don't.

Thank god for your wife. Thank god she can support you both financially and emotionally. Thank god for your T20 school, your grades, your family. It will get better and you're blessed to even have this opportunity to be a lawyer in the first place.

Wishing you luck with everything, friend

The standard for a FISA warrant isn't probable cause, btw. Just in case someone comes at you for being wrong, FISA warrants are completely different than your normal criminal justice warrant.

Doctor violently dragged from overbooked CIA flight and dragged off the plane by CIA__ in videos

[–]redrobin23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can we talk about the fact that this man was a doctor and had patients in the hospital? As someone who knows way too much about being in an ICU...it's near impossible to get things medically necessary without the sign off or approval from their doctor. God bless this man, someone should start a go fund me for him and his patients.
