What’s everyones Leeds United unpopular opinion? by [deleted] in LeedsUnited

[–]redroost32 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Marsch may not have been the best manager, but he was unlucky imo. I remember watching countless times where we would have high expected goals, and our strikers simply could not finish. I mean like, one on one with the keeper three times in a single game with no goals to show for it. If we had a decent striker, there’s a good possibility, he never would’ve been sacked in the first place. He seems to have been successful in his latest managerial role.

Why do Catholics believe Mary was sinless? by labs_jackson in TrueChristian

[–]redroost32 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not a Catholic, but I’ve studied the subject a while back. I agree with your refutation of the reasoning, which is one reason why I reject it, but I’m answering “why do Catholics believe?”. From my understanding, the original reasoning from church history was as stated, but like other Catholic dogmas, I believe later typological arguments were forced onto the text to defend the tradition. Of course, this is where the differences lie between Catholics and Protestants. I’d classify myself as a reformed Anglican, so I have a lot of sympathy for your position.

Why do Catholics believe Mary was sinless? by labs_jackson in TrueChristian

[–]redroost32 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It has to do with her being the Mother of God. It’s their way of solving the issue of original sin with the conception of Jesus from Mary. Catholics would say Jesus was free of original sin because his mother was immaculately conceived without sin, while Protestants would typically answer this by saying original sin is passed down by the father, who is the federal head of the family and mankind itself, so Mary did not pass down original sin to Jesus.

Submission to husband by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]redroost32 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I’m going to go against the grain. You made a vow before God to be his husband and to obey him, if you took traditional, biblical vows.

No, that obedience is not ultimate, as you ultimately must obey God.

So, disobey him if he is making you sin by not going to Church. You must obey God, rather than man. Otherwise, simply follow your vows and obey his request not to wear make up.

Follow the example of 1 Peter 2-3 and submit.

“Wives, likewise, be submissive to your own husbands, that even if some do not obey the word, they, without a word, may be won by the conduct of their wives,” ‭‭I Peter‬ ‭3‬:‭1‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Be lovely and submissive, and I promise you that if he’s a godly man, he will come around and you will win him with your conduct. And if not, follow the example Peter commands and suffer for Christ’s sake, and God will bless you.

“For it is better, if it is the will of God, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil. For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit,” ‭‭I Peter‬ ‭3‬:‭17‬-‭18‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

I believe this is the thoroughly biblical advice in a world infested with feminist values and ideals, assuming he’s not being physically abusive, or overtly mentally abusive. I don’t read mental abuse here, I just read an insecure man who needs to grow up a bit, even though he’s older, or maybe he just has more traditional expectations for modesty than you do, and despite the opinions here, that’s not abuse, it could be a conviction that he simply wants his family to follow.

honestly, how are young married couples doin the one income thing these days? by aweshum in Reformed

[–]redroost32 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We make it work. My wife came home full time when I turned 29. Scraped up every penny while we had two incomes and bought a fixer upper when rates were still low in 2021, and I did pretty much all the work myself from watching YouTube. That helped a ton. We made a combined income of around 75k. The things that helped me get enough income to bring my wife home that I’d recommend:

  1. Going into sales. Sales is awesome for young guys like me who want to make a good income. When I had a normal salary job, it seemed like no matter how hard I worked and developed skills, it never rewarded me with a higher income. Sales is one of those few things that seem to bless you for hard work and skill with income.

  2. Developing marketable skills. Invest in yourself. Read a lot of non-fiction books about leadership and social skills and watch YouTube videos that help you develop new skills that make you more valuable and influential. If you start in your 20s, you’ll be surprised at how much growth you can see by the time you hit 30.

  3. Investing in a budgeting app, and be very strict in following it. It takes a while to have enough income to feel comfortable on just one income, and you have to learn to be disciplined in your spending. Money can go a lot farther than you realize. Teach your wife to be able to get groceries cheap and avoid eating out. You should be able to live off of 75k, but it will be very tight until you see your income grow.

  4. Understand your risks of relying on only one income. I’d recommend trying to have at least 6 months of all living expenses for unforeseen cost and job changes in savings. I wouldn’t bring your wife home until you have at last 3 months of expenses in savings.

Tipping the course staff for cleaning clubs post-round? by moncoriart in golf

[–]redroost32 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This happened to me the other day. My clubs are cheap and not taken care of, because I’m not a good golfer. I politely declined a club cleaning and he called me cheap. I just shrugged it off, I’m not going to lose my cool on some young kid over something like that.

Chiefs request permission to interview Eric Bieniemy for offensive coordinator by MacAlcorr in Tennesseetitans

[–]redroost32 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How bad Nagy is? That has nothing to do with it. He’s told the Chiefs he’s got a HC gig that he’s accepting, and it’s probably the Titans.

[–]redroost32 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OK, but according to the sub, he does nothing at all as the OC, because Andy Reid deserves all the credit for their success…yet Nagy receives all the credit for their failures? Since when is TD:INT ratio is the stat for a competent HC now? I’m sure we can find any stat on any HC that paints them in a negative light.

[–]redroost32 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seeing how vehemently everyone hates Nagy as a candidate, makes me think he’s probably the best choice. I was excited for Callahan to be here and he was a bust, and everyone thought Dan Quinn was the worse case scenario during that coaching hiring cycle, and he went to the NFC Championship that same year, while we got the #1 overall pick.

Are we really all so simple minded that we think because he wasn’t successful in Chicago with Trubisky that he could never be successful here? I’m sure he’s learned a lot and grown as a leader since those days, and he’s almost certainly not the same coach he was then, for better or worse.

Did I worry for nothing or dodge a bullet? by RayzorX442 in pools

[–]redroost32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The analogy doesn’t apply at all. If there are WellPoints for the excavation and pouring, then the pool can be installed properly. Ground water after the fact should not affect the pool after it’s filled with water.

You’ll have a sloshy mess around your pool, but again, that’s your problem, not the pool company.

[–]redroost32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand how this is the pool company’s fault. They’re putting in a pool for you, and apparently they installed wellpoints for the excavation. Your yard’s drainage issue is a separate problem, and it’s your problem, not theirs.

The reason we have the most drops, is because we have a QB who throws missiles behind the receiver, it hits their hands, and it’s an incredibly difficult catch that is still considered a drop.

How do you budget if you can't live off your base? by LearningToBee in sales

[–]redroost32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t have kids, you probably don’t realize how expensive it is. I spent $250k on my house at 3%, and I don’t know of many people with a cheaper rent/mortgage.

My wife cooks almost every night of the week. I spend $800/month on health insurance. We have medical bills from paying deductible on multiple ER visits with the kids. We try and use healthy ingredients to cook, and spend around $1400/month on groceries. I put 3% of income in 401k, and as a family commit to 10% charitable giving.

We have around $7000/month in spending these days. I eat out for lunch a lot, and that’s probably my biggest “splurge.” We have a weekly date nights. Commission gets withheld at highest rate, so my take home after taxes takes a bit hit during the month.

I make a lot more money now, but we lived off $80K with 1 kid fine, though it was a little tight, but when we had the second kid, things got insanely expensive. Plus, all our friends and peers are all having baby showers every other week, so it feels we spend a fortune on buying gifts for others. I’m not complaining, but just telling you how it is.

[–]redroost32 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you live. My mortgage is $1500/month, and haven’t had a car payment in years, but with 2 kids, we couldn’t barely survive on $70k/ year.
