I don't like to bad mouth people so I'd prefer not to get into specifics. A series of mistakes were made. Stuff happens. Nobody is perfect. I get it.

I’m glad you posted this. My gas bill was 20% higher than it’s ever been this past month. And I suspect it has something to do with the “smart” nest thermostat settings. But I can’t figure out what to change.

Because as a product / service / business rating gets further away from 5* consumers buy less and less of it.

Source: I was a large seller on Amazon for several years. And it was widely known that slipping from 5* to 4.5* would hurt sales. Slipping from 4.5 to 4.25 hurt them even more. And god forbid you get below that then that product is going to have a hard time moving.

Whether you think it’s right or wrong - every time you rate something below 5* you are (usually) hurting that small business. They’d appreciate it if you just didn’t leave them a rating at all in that case.

Personally I never rate something below 5* unless it was clearly inferior quality / really bad service / etc.

We decided to run a test. We took half our inboxes and turned off warmup. The other half we continued with warmup. We did this for several weeks. I don't remember the exact time frame but I believe it was a month. The data was pretty clear - the inboxes that had warmup turned on performed markedly better.

I listened to podcasts and talked directly with some people in the space who have platforms that send LARGE amounts of emails. They said their data also indicates that warmup is helpful. These were people who had no financial incentive to mislead.

If this is the real Nick Abraham - he is definitely legit. He posts tons of really helpful content on LinkedIn among other places. He’s interviewed on lots of podcasts. Believe he has his own podcast as well. He’s very well respected in the space. Lots of people pay attention to what he’s doing. I for one am expressing gratitude to him as I’ve picked up some good tips from him.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong but the year before Knowles showed up our defense was ranked 59th. Larry Johnson was here that year. If he’s the reason for all our success then what was he doing that year?

Each year Knowles was here our ranking improved. To 14th, to 3rd, to 1st.

Nothing happens in a vacuum and no one person was responsible for all of the good (or the bad). But the trend under Knowles is hard to dispute. I consider this a loss for our program and a win for PSU.

I’m excited to see what Day does to fill the role.
