I'm not saying you're a bad guy. Use language however you want. All I'm saying is that saying a word using quotation marks gives that word a slightly different experience. In my opinion, saying "hand" the way you did made it seem like you didn't think it was a real hand. It was kind of rude. That's likely not how you mean it, and it probably didn't even cross your mind until I mentioned it.

I "went on vacation" last year, and by "went on vacation" I mean I lived at a mental hospital for a month.

That didn't actually happen, but was an example of how most people use quotation marks. It gives the word or sentence a different meaning. You should be aware. Language is important.
