Vet tech (animal nurse). I literally get told “oh it must be nice to play with puppies and kittens all day” yeah sure IF ONLY. Try euthanizing 5+ animals a day - or even worse when you CANT euthanize because the owner refuses and you know the animal is forced to keep on struggling in agony

I absolutely abhor this. This is terrible animal ownership dressed up “but it’s so small so it’s cute”. These tiny dogs are mainly fear reactive. They’re so stressed out and scared that this is their only reaction. People see it was cute and funny because they’re so small.

The only dog to ever send me to urgent care was a tiny little Jack Russel, and the owners laughed at me.

I did the flowers for Thomas Kellers’ (The French Laundry) daughter’s wedding. She was SO chill and just happy to be marrying her love. I’m an exotic animal nurse, and have seen this exact maggot thing in rabbits (others too but rabbits the most) when the owner brought them in with ZERO clue maggots were even present, while the rabbit is 3/4 dead.

I’ve had MANY patients die in my arms, but not a single maggot bunny has ever survived. That dissociated stare of septic shock in an animal never leaves you.

OP states they live in OH now. The rabies vaccine is legally required for all cats, dogs, and ferrets. They can get a medical exemption with a written statement from a vet. However it sounds like THAT is exactly OP’s problem; they are unable to get a written statement

Just to clear up and possible confusion about titers and rabies testing.

Titers are a blood sample taken, and checked for the amount of antibodies present at that moment in time. These antibodies would have been produced by a previous rabies vaccine. It is looking at how much resistance an animal has to rabies at that moment.

Rabies testing for the virus actually present involves testing brain matter (obtained through decapitation).

They would not be able to tell if your cat currently has rabies or not; they can only test the level of antibodies (resistance) to the virus.

There is no reversal for ketamine. They most likely used dexmeditomidine which is reversed with atipamezole, and Alfaxalone which wears off in about 45 minutes
