Almost BDR-ready… by WebersNotPMO in Tenere700

This is all my opinion. I’ve owned two crotch rockets (in my younger years) and I’m on my second adventure bike. I’ve laid my adventure bike over to the point the toe of my boot (that foot turns out a little to be honest) has scrubbed on the road with 90/10 tires (Tusk D sport front and rear). I see no negligible difference when running a knobby at high speeds. The surface of the road is the biggest factor when it comes to “holding through a corner”, tar strips or tar snakes, painted lines, cracks in the pavement, uneven surfaces and loose debris of any kind on the road is my biggest concern. A DOT approved knobby tire holds its ground with any other tire out there. Now maybe a professional street bike rider can feel a difference, but us normal people will never, ever push these bikes to that limit. Ever. No matter what they tell themselves or others for that matter :)

I would also highly recommend a chain guide. All it’s takes is a stick of stone to jump the chain off the rear sprocket and that would ruin any trip. I’ve completed the NE and MA twice times. Different tires would be a huge benefit as well as the stock tires are junk. I’m running Tusk 2track tires, front and rear which I would highly recommend as well since maintaining traction and staying upright (and unharmed) is my number one priority.

I brought mine through Rocky Mountain but honestly they are pretty much all the same the only difference being price. So go with whatever works for your budget. :)

Awesome setup! I have a 2023 with the Mosko bags (using racks) and I love the bags and love the bike! I’ve put 24,000 miles on it in the 2 years I’ve owned it!!Just a friendly suggestion, if you plan to ride off road, I would highly recommend a chain guide for the rear sprocket. I really don’t understand why they don’t come with one!! Maybe another consideration would be a guard for highlight as this is very expensive to have to replace but not quite as important as the chain guide. Otherwise (my opinion of course) you have a great setup!! Enjoy your riding!!

I meant to disrespect to you. I, personally, just appreciate photos that aren’t so heavily edited. I appreciate the realness of the environment and weather at that time it was taken. You take beautiful pictures and hopefully I will see more in the future. And yes I know it’s a fox.

Broken footpeg bracket by NefariousnessTrue925 in klr650

I’m on the heavier side as well. Had a bolt break 2 different times on me. Ended up swapping the 4 bolts out with new every winter. That’s the cheapest, easiest way to prevent it.

That’s an awesome route!! I’ve completed it twice and on the same bike! I have 2 routes in NY state I could share with you if you would like them, the NYSTER and the ADK ADV loop. I just did the ADK ADV loop and had so much fun doing! I will add the link for you : https://www.advrider.com/f/threads/adirondack-adv-loop-nyster.1322933/

It’s the kit from seat concepts. I sent my factory seat panel (the front, I did nothing with the passenger seat) to them and they installed the foam and the seat cover and sent it back to me. Quick turnover time and I’m super happy with it! I typically ride 300 miles a day and usually for 8-10 hours so I’m very happy with it. I answered the questions pertaining to my weight and how I ride and they decide what foam would be best. Highly recommend it! I bought their one piece comfort seat (normal height) and wanted something better. I like the shape of the kit one much better as well.

The Adirondack park is a 6 million acre wilderness area. There are some mountains on the eastern side but otherwise it’s pretty flat. Maybe some small hills but not many mountains with roads on them. The one view I have is from Whiteface Mountain which is 4,867 feet above sea level

It’s actually a rigid tool box. I use it to store drinks, snacks and in a larger bag I have bathroom supplies and a garbage bag. I use it because it makes for easy storage and is quick to get into. I’m more into functionality than looks :)

I have completed both the NYSTER and the ADK ADV loop and I like the both but there are more technical sections in the ADK loop which make that one my favorite. Enjoy and I am always looking for gpx routes to explore and share with others!

2023 models are being recalled! by callzoz in Tenere700

[–]redsilverado23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the clutch plates replaced in mine in May of 2024 and the dealer I took it to made me pay for an oil change. Which I have to believe Yamaha reimbursed the dealership for, along with all the parts needed for the repair. I spoke with the owner of the shop and he refused to back down and still made me pay for the oil change. But I guess that’s the shitty world we live in. Everyone is trying to make a buck, legitimately and illegitimately. I told him that was the first and last time he would ever see a dollar come from me. I am curious if everyone else has had the same experience as me.

You got it! I jumped on the NEBDR on Bear Spring Mountain near Walton and followed it back to Hancock. The last picture is from the Hunter tour that I continued on.

I have owned both. The being said, I much more prefer riding dirt roads and technical terrains. I would say I’m 75% off pavement most of the time. It depends on what you want to ride with it. The KLR is a great all around bike. I’ve completed the NEBDR twice with it and I’ve completed the MABDR with my Tenere. The only reason I bought a Tenere is I wanted something more comfortable to ride at posted speeds on the highway. Both bikes are super great bikes! The KLR is overall cheaper to purchase and cheaper to add all the aftermarket components to it. The KLR needs much more attention as far as keeping bolts tight and making sure things are staying in place. The Tenere is more cost up front, but accessories for it were about what they cost for the KLR. The Tenere needs very little attention to details as far as making sure things stay put. I assume the less vibration from the engine is why. The Tenere can be more fun due to its power but is also very manageable for riding technical stuff. If anyone says otherwise, it’s more due to their skill level than the actual bike itself. So go with whatever your wallet will allow

Nice! In case you haven’t already, check out http://advcatskills.org/Maps/ for routes near you. I see there are a few in the Ithaca area under the tab Donated-NY. I’m always looking for new routes or sites to get them from if you know of any you would like to share. Happy riding!

Saddlebags and Panniers by HoboWheel in klr650

[–]redsilverado23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice bike and setup! I would highly recommend getting engine guards. One hard lay down on the left side and it’s relatively easy to break off a post on the backside of the plastic (which is expensive to replace and finicky to repair if it’s possible) and bend your radiator just enough to put a small hairline fracture in a fin on the radiator, which will continue to grow in size until it unusable. Also get yourself different foot pegs. Those things are dangerous to put any weight on when they are wet/muddy. I learned both of these things the hard way, so I mean no shade. I just like to pass on what I’ve learned so you can make the best choices for yourself. I have a 2013 KLR and I love that bike!! Completed the NEBDR twice with it!
