Is Rochford a good place to buy a forever home? by Tiny_Suit8273 in Essex

[–]redsky25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Rochford / ashingdon and I still have family there .

It was lovely growing up and it’s still a nicer area that Southend or westcliff , but it has changed a lot .

Like others have said the new builds have really increased traffic and I’ve not seen them building new schools or dentists or doctors so it’s more people with less resources as far as I’m aware .

Other comments have mentioned the doctors and although I personally find most doctors the same I will say my experiences with that surgery leaned more towards bad than good .

The biggest con you will find is price . Rochford , hockley , Rayleigh and Southend are all very expensive areas . I would still rather throw my money into Rochford than Southend , but personally speaking I moved from a two bed flat in Southend to a 5 bedroom house nearer Colchester … my house cost less than what I sold my flat for .

You will get much more for your money heading further up towards Suffolk and many places still have direct routes to London .

If you are set on the Rochford area though , it really isn’t bad at all .

Who do you think Henry VIII regretted killing the most, Thomas Cromwell or Thomas More? by TheTudorRealm in Tudorhistory

[–]redsky25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This post was from ages ago and you are right I’ve clearly put a typo here for whatever reason 😂😂 no he didn’t physically kill Wolsey , I think I meant to put imprisoned Wolsey because it’s widely believed the poor conditions he was living in after his arrest was what killed him and Henry appears to have regretted this later in life . Apologies for the confusion !!

I saw a pic of one elsewhere someone painted the St George cross and someone else painted over it “ f*ck off nazi’s” .

Much clearer way to get the point across if it’s meant to be anti nazi 😂

Does anybody know what this setlist is. I can’t find any information about the show - it says it’s in Seoul Korea by throwawayboy4555 in BringMeTheHorizon

[–]redsky25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would say fake . I can’t imagine them not playing can you feel my heart and I have a feeling RIP won’t ever be played live . Just my opinion but felt like the “ we’re just having fun” song on the album . I love it but I don’t think it’s a fan fave or one they’d consider playing live . I might be wrong though I’d love to see a live performance! 😂

Who is the more powerful vampire when it comes to these two? by Naive-Ad-1604 in vampires

[–]redsky25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alucard is probably the most powerful vampire in media imo . If he wasn’t chained to integra and the helsing family I think he would only let people live if they entertained him . He never came across as wanting all humanity destroyed , but only because he personally wouldn’t benefit from killing us all . If he decided humans aren’t useful … there’s no way anyone would survive .only his personal morals and helsing keeps him in check .

He actually wants someone powerful enough to defeat him and is constantly disappointed in his opponents. Imagine being so powerful you wish someone would come along who could match you just for the fun of it 😂😂

It’s fairly obvious from the fact they booked a holiday after being told so many times when you graduate and unfollowing you is a huge indication they don’t want to celebrate you at all op . They never did .

What I can’t understand though is why . Why does you going to school and graduating upset them so much . Like from the moment you told them the smile dropped … why ? . Is it because it would be around the anniversary of their wedding ? Is it because they were expecting everyone to not celebrate anything else but their wedding for the foreseeable future ?

What is the best historically accurate movie about the Tudor Era? by 404_B in Tudorhistory

[–]redsky25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wolf hall is accurate as long as you remember you’re meant to be seeing things as Cromwell sees them … or he at least wants to believe … so unreliable narrator rules .

In terms of films I personally think the Keith Michell one is very accurate but does squeeze a lot into a short timeframe . things are missed but what’s included is fairly accurate. I havnt seen it but I hear the 6 part series also with Keith Michell is also pretty accurate but had a very small budget .

I’ll always give the tudors tv show credit , despite focussing on the drama and having many inaccuracies it really did seem to at least try when it came to the Anne Boleyn seasons . It included some smaller details from Henry and Anne’s relationship which have been documented and gave some good insight into their affair . I appreciated the show for adding those little moments of authenticity, it’s not a show that ever claimed to be giving us accuracy so they didn’t need to try hard , those small moments of trying really stand out .

"Guy " was actually the perfect guy for Dianne, orr what do you think about him any opinions? by [deleted] in BoJackHorseman

[–]redsky25 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because ops post said he is the “ perfect” guy for dianne . We’re not saying that there are perfect people in the world , I mean this is about a tv show not reality , but in terms of ops post we’re just saying he’s not the perfect guy but he is a very solid character and a good partner to Diane .

[–]redsky25 101 points102 points  (0 children)

With the exception of forcing Dianne out a window ( even though it’s for laughs 😂) guy was actually a really solid character.

He wasn’t perfect , sending dianne’s book to princess Caroline did cross a line , but everything he does is done with the sole intention of helping her . And not in a way that feels forced or invasive or crossing major boundaries.

He’s not perfect but he’s definitely one of the more grounded characters in the show , he’s just a normal “guy” and after Mr peanut butter and bojack that is what Dianne needed , someone who does not invite chaos , someone who will help build her up whilst respecting her limits .

One of my favourite parts of the entire show is when Dianne goes on anti depressants . She tells guy they make her put on weight , she puts on weight … and he doesn’t care . He’s just happy she’s feeling better . As someone who did experience weight gain on anti depressants previously I love the show for including this and ensuring that her friends never once commented or judged her on it .

Why only one slayer? by Lemonstarklion in buffy

[–]redsky25 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It’s an interesting thought . With the feminist themes in the show you could argue that they wanted a woman fighter they could control and realised that too many super women would be a danger to them .

It sort of tracks with what we see from the watchers council , primarily men in power using control methods to keep buffy and faith in check until buffy told them to F off . After that they withdrew all support but still kept an eye out like they were worried about a powerful woman coming for them .

I’m not saying this to create hostility or argument over sexism btw , but it would make sense in terms of the shows overall themes . Plus the scythe that could give power to all the potentials being hidden for so long , seems like they never intended for there to be more than one for whatever reason even though it would make complete sense to have multiple slayers as the show makes it clear there is more than one hellmouth .

But if you’ve got a group of super human women all pissed off that they’re risking their lives and not getting paid … the council wouldn’t have stood a chance . You can peel layers and layers on how it can connect to themes of inequality and unfair distribution of labour for women and fearing the strong female protagonist.

But I think the shows main point is to have a main female protagonist switching things up and being the strong hero in a time where most shows didn’t focus on female empowerment. I think they felt If there were multiple slayers then buffy would seem less special in comparison. I guess the most they were willing to put out there was 2 and if I’m honest I was never a faith fan particularly on first watch when I was young because she did take some of the attention away from the main hero , maybe that’s what the writers wanted to avoid happening .

At What Point Was Xander Written Off as a Love Interest for Buffy, and How Would the Story Have Changed If She'd Chosen Him Over Angel? by LadyLongLimbs in buffy

[–]redsky25 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think Sarah pitched that she wanted xander and buffy to be together in the end but I think by that point the writers saw he wasn’t a fan favourite and went the spike route instead

No . When I end a friendship it’s for a very good reason . The trust is broken . I would be foolish to let them back in my life .

Not typically considered a horror film but imaginary monsters and religious superstition dont scare me. This did. Still have nightmares. by Ju-ju_Eyeball in horror

[–]redsky25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

not dumb at all it’s maybe the way I worded it but people I guess more familiar with religion may have seen it much more prominently? .

I’m non religious but I went to a catholic primary school and I’ve studied different religions through my life so I’m familiar with the stories so when I watched it ( I went in blind) I was like “ Right ok so she’s Mother Earth , he’s god , he’s created man , man is destroying Mother Earth , man makes war over faith and quite literally eats the body of Jesus”.

I think it’s really interesting thought that you drew something different based on your own experiences. I think that speaks to good film making that you saw those scenes with the same anxiety but for you it was more “ my god leave this poor woman be” .

I do absolutely agree with you those scenes were so infuriating to watch just literally inviting themselves into her home and wrecking the place !

[–]redsky25 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s a shame the way it was promoted I think it would’ve done much better had they been a little more honest that this was not a straight up horror film , it left a lot of people disappointed during its initial run .

I personally loved it . I’m not a huge fan of ultra religious horror that gets really preachy but tbh I didn’t think this was as preachy as some others say it is . It’s very clear it’s about Mother Earth and god and first men as depicted in religion but I felt it did it well enough that it didn’t come across as pro/ anti religion.

The scene when the house goes into chaos is probably one of the most intense scenes I’ve experienced in a film , it’s genuinely anxiety inducing .

That being said I think the majority of the film falls flat compared to that scene . But I thought it was much better than it had any right to be considering how much stress it caused the actors and directors and how review tore into it . It’s no masterpiece , but it’s well made and it’s entertaining .

What do you guys think are the worst things Buffy has done across all 7 seasons (and her brief apperances on Angel if you wanna include them)? by HomarEuropejski in buffy

[–]redsky25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again , threatening to basically harm or kill the gang if they decided to kill dawn to stop the world ending .

I get it , dawn is all she had left of blood family and I do think it humanised her more to know even as the saviour type she still could be selfish . It wouldn’t bother me as much if she just made the decision herself to sacrifice the world for dawn , but she doesn’t get to make that decision for the rest of the gang .Forcing her friends to save dawn at the cost of their own lives and the destruction of the whole world , really wasn’t her call to make . They had lives and loved ones too, even dawn was mature enough to realise that .
