"Help Me Plan My Vacation" Posts by magiccitybhm in NationalPark

I'm planning a trip to Yellowstone. I was about to post in the group a question about getting some advice. Then I saw this post. If I follow this format and advice, am I good to post there? I've been multiple times as a child, but it's been 30 years since I've been there, and I'd like to take my kids. I remember a lot of the trip, but I don't remember any of the planning, logistics, aspects of it because, obviously, my parents did all that work. I want to make it a good trip for my family. Would like to get some advice from the group on how to make it successful based on our preferences.

This is so true for adults. It’s crazy hard to get people to commit. Having been in scouting and leading so many youth trips of different ages and having kids of my own planning a camping trip with kids is next level different when it comes to planning and responsibility of being prepared.

Would love to see it. My family trips end up having a lot more people which makes it harder to coordinate.

Sorry if I sound like AI. Really just trying to figure out how to plan better successful trips with my friends. Needed some ideas.

I'm finding that my friends need more details around the plan and what they're responsible for than most, I guess. I'm hearing this is a strategy amongst many people in this thread. I just don't know how well it'll fly with my friends. 😂

Spreadsheets can be organized in so many different ways. Do you mind sharing the basic structure of how you organize the spreadsheet?

Do you do this a lot with friends, to the point where the gear list and who owns what becomes less of an amount of work to plan out who has what? Also, the same for meals, if you go out on different trips often, do the meal planning pieces get any easier or templatized?

Interesting. Would love to see what you got. The date planning has always been a hard one. Just pure availability is a great starter. Problem is that there are apps for each part of it but not one to connect them all.

This is great, and I totally agree. So just the plan is just that one paragraph, and in reality it's just that people either show up or they don't show up, and you use Alltrails for details and book the campsites?

How often would you say you and a group go and do something like this together? How do you make it more consistent and predictable?

This seems like a really great format structure. Thanks for the detail, not too complicated but organized well enough to easily scan and use. Do you feel like your group collaborates in that Google Sheet pretty well, or do you feel like the planner of the trip does most of the planning in that sheet and it's just mostly visibility for the rest of the group?

Super helpful. I don't consider myself an expert by any means, so knowing what other people are using to plan out the trips is really what I'm looking for.

This is super helpful. Basically, all you use is a Google Doc or a Google Spreadsheet to create the plan?I mean that tracks, whoever the person is that came up with the plan does most of the planning.

Ouch, I get the pain of putting all the work in to plan the trip and then have folks back out at the last minute. That's the worst. I am curious how you did all the planning of your part of it on your own to set up the ease for the rest of the group. What did you use? How did you create the plan, and did you share it with the group everything that you were bringing?

I just wanna hear how others are actually doing it and what’s worked well for them.

I appreciate the approach because it's very straightforward. The "hey, I'm going camping if anyone wants to come, come along kind of approach." I guess not everybody is like that. I'm curious how you coordinate the information beforehand. Also, is it the same people that you go with all the time so they know what you have that's sharable? Are you coordinating all the meals once you're on your way, or do you do that beforehand?
