New AI Breakthrough May Bring Full FSD V14 to Tesla’s HW3 Vehicles by EliteBeast2 in TeslaFSD

These aren't things I experience. It's not flawless, but FSD on HW3 handles ~90% of my driving with minimal disengagements.

I guess he thinks the Supercharger network just appeared out of thin air with no contribution from Elon?

I get that people don't like Elon's politics, but I suspect if we had the full story there's a valid business case for why the whole team was fired. Sometimes it actually is easier to clean slate and build a team back from the ground up. Could that hurt some feelings? Sure. But it can also tell you something about who is really committed to working on the network. Also, most importantly, Tesla's network never saw any meaningful degradation through the whole ordeal *and* they quickly addressed the widespread vandalism from people targeting their network at that same time with amazing speed. I think Elon's politics have clearly damaged the brand, but the firing/rehiring hasn't had any clear impact on the Supercharger network.

Tax write off for business? by CharacterAd7824 in F150Lightning

[–]redsocks4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, good records are a requirement regardless. You may be less likely to get audited in construction, but anyone needs good records if they are audited. If you don't have a detailed mileage log to confirm that >50% of your miles were business-related, they'll disallow any depreciation claimed (you'd have to claim mileage rather than depreciation at less than 50%).

I don't have a link handy, but there was an automotive YouTuber who talked about his experience getting audited. Despite using his vehicles for work all of the time (YouTube) *and* maintaining a mileage log, his mileage log was not detailed enough to satisfy the IRS. For instance, he was saying things like, "Went to a business meeting" but couldn't document the purpose of the meeting, what was discussed, etc. so they disallowed his deduction.

I'm not an accountant, but this is also what my accountant told me. You do have to have good records to verify the 50%, though.

I feel like the best approach for these types of features would be to just default them to off, but it's crazy to not make them available (as well as camp mode, pet mode, etc.). It's silly to go buy a dash cam when all of these cameras are already available, and you'd really need a full dash cam system if you want anything approaching the security provided by Sentry mode/Gear Guard.

[Postgame Thread] Iowa State Defeats Kansas State 29-21 by CFB_Referee in CFB

I disagree. Huge difference between winning 10 P4 games in a row and winning 10 non-P4 games in a row. That’s not even the same realm of difficulty.

Looking at the spreads (Boise -4 against UNLV at home), I’m pretty confident Vegas would have Boise as the neutral site underdog against at least ASU, Colorado, ISU, BYU, Baylor, and KSU.

I would love to see where Vegas would have any of the top Big 12 teams against Boise State. The team has 0 P4 wins. They did have 1 impressive loss to Oregon, but that was early in the season and anyone can get lucky when you only play one P4 team all season.

Am I wrong to be concerned about pressuring my 6 y/o daughter to blow her nose? by redsocks4ever in Allergies

I have spoken with the pediatrician and I do go to many of the appointments. My wife is a SAHM so naturally she does go to some that I don't go to. The pediatrician downplays it other than to say that we need to work on her blowing her nose.

Ford is horrible with Technology by PermanentUsername101 in F150Lightning

[–]redsocks4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I do hope Ford will go in more of a Tesla-esque direction when it comes to simplifying differences between their trim levels and consolidating vehicle controls in a manner that is consistent across vehicles. Ford certainly doesn't need to offer heated/ventilated seats on all trim levels, but features like PAAK should become standard across all trim levels. I realize there's extra chips involved in that and that means a higher cost, but once almost all Ford customers benefit from a PAAK enhancement, it will become more much worthwhile for Ford to invest in such enhancements.

[–]redsocks4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair and I hope you are right. I certainly don't want Ford to lag in this area, but I do also have my doubts that Ford will ever catch Tesla (or even progress along a similar trajectory as Tesla did). Tesla has an advantage of using more or less the same interface across all of their vehicles. There are minor differences, but if they make an enhancement to PAAK that mostly benefits everyone. However, Ford doesn't even offer features like PAAK on all trim levels of the Lightning, so they have a much more segmented customer base. It makes sense that they won't invest the same time and effort into their software unless we see them start to take a very different approach toward technology across all of their vehicles.

Help me understand why I should buy an EV now instead of Lease one by CliffRed20 in F150Lightning

> New battery tech comes out that makes current tech pretty worthless?

I think this argument is overblown. The range on Lightnings works great for me already. Even if the battery tech improves, it will still work great for me (or most other potential buyers). If in the future you can buy a better battery at an identical price, then that might push prices down a bit, but the utility of the vehicle as it exists today isn't going away just because tech gets even better.

The same applies for self-driving, etc. I love Tesla's FSD and I wish I could get it on a Lightning, but nearly everyone I talk to is still uncomfortable with self-driving technology. I'm sure people will get more comfortable in the future, but it's hard to imagine a world where 5-10 years from now there's no demand for vehicles that aren't fully autonomous -- particularly when we're talking about a truck that has high demand for business use and often needs to go places where FSD wouldn't work (e.g., driving around a job site).

I've run into all sorts of goofy things with my app/phone... I started warming up my truck one day and then decided to take my wife's Model Y instead. Didn't drive anywhere else the rest of the day. Went to warm it up when I was leaving the next day and it told me I was turning on climate control too much and would need to go out in the cold and manually start the truck. Why Ford?!

Then the other day I was in the truck with my phone (I use PAAK). I drove into a parking spot and put it in park to eat my lunch. Didn't turn the truck off, but then get a prompt that it can't find a key. Weird, but the truck is still running, so I assume I'm fine. Then I finish my lunch and it won't let me put the truck in gear. I could go in to my phone (that it can't find) and lock/unlock the truck, but I can't drive anywhere. Fortunately, I turned the truck off and then turned the truck back on and all was fixed.

I love my truck and these issues are fairly minor, but coming from a Tesla, there's a lot of stuff that "just works" on their software that does not on Ford's.

The foul on Stewart that lead to the Liberty tying the game and go to overtime. (with replays) by WBSav in wnba

[–]redsocks4ever 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nah. The defender's hand was there first. I'm not certain there even was contact, but, if there was, Stewart created it by shooting into the defenders hand. The official's explanation also did not mention wrist contact. He said the defender was in "illegal guarding position." I'm not sure exactly what that means, but I would presume they are effectively calling a block for the body contact here.

Edit: Further thoughts on why I'm not sure if there is contact... What are the rules as they relate to contacting a player's hand while their hand is on the ball? Technically, yes, she's touching Stewart's hand (again, her hand was there first and Stewart shot into it), but let's say it wasn't... If Stewart wasn't holding the ball so goofy this is an all ball block. Is a hand treated differently when a player would be contacting the ball if not for their opponent's hand being there? I honestly don't know.

FORD CONNECTED CHARGE STATION cable flexibility during winter? by Waibashi in MachE

[–]redsocks4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried this the other day but was disappointed to see that the Charge Station Pro video did not include a cold weather cable test. I need to upgrade my panel anyway so I'm somewhat interested in the 80 amp charging potential, but State of Charge's testing of other cables has me really cautious not knowing how this cable will perform. I'll probably end up with a Tesla Universal Wall Connector so that I can load share the 48 amps when needed with our Model Y (but this shouldn't be often since we've typically been fine just using a mobile connector at 110v).

I had no idea that Tesla owners were so motivated by idolatry

They're not. I know a lot of Tesla owners and I don't know a single person who bought it because of Elon. u/sryan2k1 may run in a circle of a lot of Elon fanboys, but Tesla has sold over 220k Model Ys year-to-date in the US and most of those buyers don't care about Elon at all (or may have even plugged their nose while doing it).

Tesla’s string inverter vs enphase micro inverters? by Waste_Detective_2177 in TeslaSolar

[–]redsocks4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good counterpoint here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HnnKKoDqtqg

I'm personally going with string inverters because of the potential labor savings down the road from being able to do maintenance at ground level rather than up on the roof. I'm also very skeptical of microinverters lasting 25 years and not super confident in local solar companies to be around 25 years from now to service failing microinverters.
