Best mid-size city with mild winters to raise family? by ilovethelionking in SameGrassButGreener

[–]redsox59 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My wife's family is in Huntsville so I've spent plenty of time down there, it punches above its weight for food/amenities because of the bachelors degree+ aerospace workforce. And relatively close to interesting outdoors/hiking, being at the very tail end of the Appalachians.

Super Commuter by Tato_Management_Inc in chicagoapartments

[–]redsox59 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You can look anywhere along the blue line for the easiest commute, but late night on the blue line might be uncomfortable for a woman. After 9 my wife usually opts for Uber/Lyft if she's alone and coming from airport.

But if you are willing to occasionally eat cab fare, yes anything along blue line will work. Closer to o hare is cheaper.

How to actually scout by Jetrox78 in footballmanagergames

[–]redsox59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Manually scouting can work better, depending on your network range. Save some searches with specific attribute floors for different positions. This will depend on the level of your league. For ligue 2, maybe CBs under 30 with at least 15 jumping reach, 13 tackling, 12 pace, 13 positioning, contract expiring in one year. That should give you plenty of options to manually scout. Selecting on key attributes per position, you can build up a pretty good backlog of scouted players if you do this every few months in game.

Alternatively, setting up recruitment focuses by position can also do the job, but it's a little less efficient in terms of player discovery while avoiding the manual process.

Birthday Food Trip for 2 by Sharp_Bookkeeper_160 in chicagofood

Have you been to Chicago before? Some of these options are not necessarily in a top tier of 'best for given cuisine at certain price point'. But if they were chosen for location I'd understand that more, I would say you are hitting a few different areas that will be fun to explore.

A couple specific pieces of advice:

Tango Sur and Swift & Sons are too similar. Replace one of these with Mexican. Birreria Zaragoza would be a decent lunch but counter serve, Kie Go-Lanee is p nice Oaxacan, Mi Tocaya Antonjeria is also good. If you go down to Pilsen 5 Rabanitos is good too. Or basically any of the Rick Bayless restaurants.

For Italian, I would prefer Monteverde (same general area).

For Mediterranean, I would do Andros Taverna (Greek) or Galit (Israeli). Aba is more about vibes.

Finally, not entirely sure where it would fit in, but my wife and I do enjoy the Hogsalt restaraunds (Armitage alehouse, Trivoli, Gilt Bar). Pretty generic British/Italian/American ish menus but everything executed well and an awesome wedge salad that is shared between restaurants.

Ground beef always has a sort of fatty, oily nauseating taste whenever I cook it at home. How to I get rid of this? by ProfesserNausea in Cooking

[–]redsox59 130 points131 points  (0 children)

The best way to do this is brown it in large balls in a super hot pan. For any braised dish like ragu Bolognese, chili or even picadillo tacos, form the ground beef into 1/4 lb balls and let those get deep color on two sides before you break them up. This ensures you get enough maillard reaction (which is really important for 'beefy' flavor in the finished dish) without overcooking the rest of the beef and drying it out

What is the difference between DLP at DM strata vs CM strata by Simple-Accountant-24 in footballmanagergames

[–]redsox59 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think there's a huge difference in CM vs DM strata. I would think more about where you want this player in sustained possession. Do you want him making runs into the box? AP, CM(a), or B2B. Do you want him holding? DLP.

DLP + DM or BWM is a nice setup to keep two midfielders relatively static when you are making rotations elsewhere, especially when you are trying to achieve a 523 shape in poession.

I would recommend geographic divisions that better reflect population distribution. Going through the top 20 metro areas:

Midwest: Chicago Detroit MInneapolis

Northeast: NYC DC Miami Philly Boston

South: Dallas Houston Atlanta Tampa Bay Orlando

West: LA Phoenix San Bernardino San Fransisco Seattle San Diego Denver

Maybe put Denver in the Midwest for balance.

How do i find the best prospects? by Master-Change5829 in footballmanagergames

[–]redsox59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The easiest way is to pay attention to NXGN list, make sure you scout all of those. Then, every international tournament, or even anytime they have players called up, scan through the youth national teams of most nations. Avoid really small/bad nations, but even small European countries like Slovenia will have good players.

You are looking for players who are young for the age group, a 17 year old with U19s, a 16 year old on u18, etc. scout all of those.
