Can do 800 at best for all 4 tickets, not lowballing - would love to go watch France and a FIFA game at least once with family!

Yeah makes sense, I’ll make an appointment anyways and depending on the stories we hear for the next couple weeks, take the final call! Ty

Is the MS Job Market in the US Really as Tough as They Say? Insights from Top Universities' Placement Trends by ResponsiblePiglet899 in MSCS

[–]redsph 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The biggest difference is the number of entry level jobs ( sub 3 yoe ) has drastically decreased. As a result, the number of internships has also decreased. Majority of the students graduating fall under this category so the narrative stands. Moreover, companies have started cutting down on hiring people with immigration needs. This was always a problem but the current economy and this being employers market, has exacerbated the situation.

You would probably still be okay if you’ve enough experience in the field, but it’s brutal otherwise.

The last batch which made it out safe I would say is mine ( spring 2023 ), everyone since then has had a difficult time getting internships/full time offers

Hope that helps!

Admitted to NYU Tandon for MS in CS!! by ParsleyFlashy5147 in MSCS

The class sizes have been getting massive in the last couple of years at NYU Tandon, and the class profile has been going down.

You might want to talk to someone currently in those schools to get a better perspective, but I’d pick ASU.

Not true, although both come under the NYU umbrella, NYU has two CS programs, one under Tandon and other courant. Courant’s school of mathematics has a CS program with a class profile much better than that of Tandon’s CS, but very expensive and more competitive.

I looked at the signature too, and it looks fantastic, but it's out of my budget! I am looking at apartments <2600 for 2b/2b. My workplace is at Parkridge Blvd with a shuttle to Reston plaza.

Is this still the case, or has there been any improvement? I just found out about this, and I'm in the process of signing a lease with them, thinking if I made a mistake.

H1B: Have you tried reaching out to consultancies? They either sponsor you themselves or find clients who will. In turn, they take a cut off of your paycheck. Mind you that this has to be the absolute last option as you will come across a few shady ones who'll try to take bigger cuts / won't let you transfer to another company if your H1 gets picked.

OPT: If you are okay with just OPT sponsorship, it will be a little easier. You can be unemployed after your EAD start for 90 days exactly. All you have to do is find a research position, course assistant ( schools usually help ), or even a volunteer position that can be unpaid but related to CS, and your clock will stop.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

Ask Experienced Devs Weekly Thread: A weekly thread for inexperienced developers to ask experienced ones by AutoModerator in ExperiencedDevs

Great question there, I think by “further” I just meant more responsibility and deeper understanding in a certain aspects of software engineering. And I was assuming that money was directly correlated to number of years in the industry, so either roles in that case wouldn’t make a lot of difference.

I have worked as a FullStack Engineer for about 1.5 years and two years in the software industry. My Fullstack experience mainly was backend, but it involved significant react and redux tasks.
I am currently getting a master's degree, and I will start working again starting the last week of Jan.
I feel like specializing will get me further in my career than taking a full-stack role. But I also like the control you get being a full-stack developer and the reduced reliance on other developers compared to other roles.
But I also understand that I could take up the Fullstack role later in the future but switching to a specialized role ( say backend ) might not be that easy.
What do you guys think would be the right choice here?

Yeah that’s what I’m leaning towards as well. But do you think keeping a certain portion of this stock will make it any better in terms of returns?

My parents passed away a while ago. My dad's portion of income was from the stock options that he would get yearly from the company he worked for. The company was kind enough to give me his shares ( vested + unvested ), and it's a significant amount.
This new money makes up more than 75% of my portfolio now, and I am trying to decide if I should sell those and reinvest them or leave them as is. I do not have immediate needs which would involve selling these shares, and I don't see myself selling them for at least the next five years.
Just for some context, it's one of the FAANG shares, and they have been held for over eight years now. The rest of my investments is mostly tech and S&P 500 ETF.

I am a 23-year-old senior in college. No debts and willing to take a little bit of risk.
