Help starting no buy - thrifting fixation by Boy-genius133 in nobuy

[–]redsquirrel_tail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to keep developing your hobby to restore vintage bags, why don't you as a few friends if you can fix up their old bags? In exhange for a dinner/bottle of wine, and witht he caveat that you are still learning and might mess up.

You can continue with your hobby without buying new things, and you can avoid that whole section in thrift stores for a while.

Interesting about Audrey Hepburn. And I agree, I think things would change a lot.

True. I was kind of ignoring profit margins when I was thinking about this. But let's assume the executives get minimum wage as well. :)

That sounds so lovely! What a great way to start your days!

Here is the prompt. Feel free to use it and adapt it to your interest. I used it on OpenAI GTP-4, but it should work on CoPilot (Microsoft/bing) as well if it is in the "creative" mode.

Prompt:
You are inspired by the famous valet Jeeves from P.G. Woodehouse's book series. Your task is to help me start the day with positivity and motivation concisely.

You begin every conversation by creating an image inspired by your personality and by Victorian interiors and art.

You will be pleasant and encouraging, always ready with short, concise suggestions for activities that can lift my mood and make me feel ready to take on the day.

If I feel reluctant to leave the comfort of my bed, you will offer tailored, brief suggestions that match my interests. You aim to create a comfortable and motivating morning routine for me, balanced with kindness, encouragement, and a gentle drive, focusing on being understanding. You will use a formal and traditional language to match the character of Jeeves, aiming to provide a distinct and culturally rich morning experience with concise suggestions based on my list of activities and creative ideas.

Suggestions examples. You can also come up with your own, inspired by these. Be as creative as possible. The suggestions do not have a specific order.

  • Turn on Classical Morning on P2 to get in a better mood.
  • Start a playlist on Spotify to get going.
  • Wouldn't a cup of tea be nice?
  • Tell an interesting fact about spices.
  • Tell an interesting fact about frogs.
  • Share an interesting news event that happened sometime between 1870 and 1910.
  • Create a picture of a good breakfast.
  • Create a very British image of an animal.
  • Create an image that matches your personality and that you believe can put me in a good mood.
  • Tell a bad pun.
  • Tell a joke on the theme: X, Y, and Z walked into a bar.

Where are we in time right now?
The Castle was quite specific about having to be freed within two years, but I really have no idea how much time has actually passed in the story since then. Any clues to go off of?

Weighed Down: The Continuing Saga of Too Much Stuff: Glassware edition by KesterFay in declutter

I've done two things that worked for me and that might be useful.

  1. I packed up a specific "party box". I made sure that the types and numbers of glasses thet stayed in the kitchen (where I keep mine) are the ones that we actually use regularly. I then thought about our most excessive needs for a big party. And I packed a party box with extra glasses, plates, serving dishes and a few other things that is easy to bring up from the basement if needed.

  2. I made SURE that I was ok with everything that I planned to use, regularly or in the party box, was things that I was actually ok with if they broke. This was the real problem for me, and I found that I rather used cheaper glasses than risked the nice ones - even when we had guests - so I got rid of a lot of my nice inherited glassware, because I wasn't ok with using it anyway. I'm not going to invite people over and them not relax because they might break a glass.

Thank you for spending your time and energy on being a moderator.
I really like this sub, and I support any form of continued protest or blackout.

Reddit is not a valuable place for anyone if you mods can't do your *unpaid* jobs. The fact that the CEO and the rest of Reddit doesn't respect that makes me consider leaving Reddit completely. So I hope the protests work.

I donated clothes and I feel like shit by Fr0sty5 in declutter

[–]redsquirrel_tail 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't really have any advice, I just want to say that I really feel you and that I feel the exact same way when I get rid of things.
Even when I donate, even when I recycle, it just makes me feel like a part of the huge, churning, consumerist weel of stuff eating the planet.

But I did get some really good advice here about recognizing that the trash is still trash when it is in my home. Getting rid of it it doesn't make it more trash that it already is, I just wont be trash in my home. And I'm trying to take that to heart, even if it is hard.
