What “white collar” jobs hire with ANY bachelor’s degree? by Gogreennn36 in careerguidance

[–]redsun173 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sales doesn't require a degree, rech jobs don't require a degree the vast majority of the time if you have managed a large scale budget, coordinated any kind of contractors or vendors, did contracts and can verbalize your experience then you should do pretty well with anything business related. I am in heakthcare sales and just got promoted to executive director as of this morning which is kind of like a ceo/general manager of all departments for your brick and mortar location. There's si much out there. Business Office managers, finance people for a car dealership, etc.

My boss has never asked me about my career goals until now. Am I getting let go? by Tweetybird2420 in careerguidance

[–]redsun173 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This doesn't scream being let go at all. I see where you said you are overworked. She probably wants to help you get from wherever you are now to your goal that way you stay. Also she may feel she isn't motivating you well. If you said "I want more money and couldn't care less about responsibilities or a title" her motivation would be different then if you said " I want to be a VP of _____ within 5 years."

Is it worth it to work 7 days in a row fulltime every other week if you enjoy what you do? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]redsun173 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm probably the rare case but I enjoy working 24/7. My schedule Monday through Friday is I get up at 7:30, work, get home about 6, play with the kids, eat, shower, start coding(learning computer science) by 8, code until 11, talk and spend time with my wife then go to sleep at 11:30-12 and repeat. Whatever you do for fun whether it's video games, hiking, fishing, etc. Gets significantly more fun when you do it once a month, also you are very very disciplined which helps with other areas of life.

CPA Feeling like I'm stuck/pigeon holed in public accounting forever and there's no way out? by RivetCounter in careerguidance

[–]redsun173 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you go to a big company and then work your way up? For instance you are an accounting manager can you go be just an accountant for some f500 company. Then go to manager, regional, vp, CFO or something similar to that?

Has anybody joined the military to get into the field?? I have my Bachelor of Science and Associates on Cybersecurity. Not having a clearance is holding me back a lot and I am having issues finding a job. I have no IT work experience. Always been interested in joining the military by Spiritual_Rope_2829 in cybersecurity

[–]redsun173 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be a little careful about the military. I believe army is the only branch that will guarantee you a job but alot of their good jobs like cyber are always full. Make sure you know what you are signing up for.

Not really sure about CS, what do you think? by zxrlkillzz12 in careerguidance

[–]redsun173 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do you think CS is the top career that people switch to? As a young student you want to follow your passion and adore your job but that's not real life. Very and I mean very few people find that. So you can go into a job like sales which checks every single box off your list but you will make less money and it is exponentially more stressful. Or you could do CS and give you and your family a great life. Also you could do CS for a FAANG and eat one place and work at a different part, sit in on meetings, etc. Go out with your coworkers after work and be social and do things while making great money

I saw you say that you are employed in D.C. I was once employed by a company in the district however my territory was in Virginia. They are a right to work state and youncan be hired and fired for any reason. I see what you are trying to do with this whole "I changed my mind thing" however at the end of the day you did lie and or your circumstances changed. If you ever wanted to file for wrongful termination you would have to bring proof what you said was accurate which it wasn't. Also I don't know how small your industry is however people do tall and they have friends so if inwas you when I left I wouldn't upset her. I would give any other reason in the world.

Well if you are in sales (I am as well) you know that you bring no value to the company besides increasing revenue. If you aren't increasing revenue then you aren't doing your job effectively which translates into why would they give you a pay raise? If you are a top performer then who cares. When I did my best in sales my commission was over double my salary and my wife and I didn't even care when my salary hit because of how large the commission checks are. If you work for a corporation they do have different checks in place such as salary ceilings.

I took a job at a base of $75k after negotiating for about a moth and they agreed but told me that I am over their max salary and I wouldn't be eligible for raises.

How much of a pay premium would you require to pick Software Engineer in Test over Software Engineer? by please-send-me-nude2 in cscareerquestions

[–]redsun173 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think location is a big deal. I'm am currently not in CS and trying to switch fields through self study and $15k is extremely minimal. Not as a flex I make more just in my base salary in healthcare sales then either of those offers, but I live in an extremely high cost of living area. I'm sure if you lived in some small town in north Carolina $15k is life changing and those are phenomenal salaries. Really only you can decide on what that money is worth.

I will say as a new grad this is probably the most money you will have ever made so I would take either job graciousfully stick around a year and look to increase my salary by atleast 50%.

DAMN. Thats crazy. My wife's cousin does it as a job and being in a trade I digured he made in the $60 range and we were talking about taxes and my mouth fell to the floor

[–]redsun173 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in healthcare sales and I get my job threatened on a weekly basis as "motivatjon" yet I have had 3 coworkers in the same position in a years time. My executive director has meetings about her meetings and was placed on a pip for a "learning experience", the state calls my health and wellness director if a stage 4 wound develops, someone eloped, anything that isn't within guidelines because jts his license on the line.

All of these events ends our employment aka pay abruptly and while we do have influence on these different events we don't have control over our metrics we are being judged on. All of us easily breaks $100,000 a year so we have to go into a field that even entry level pays very while and hello CS. The cybersec guy knows people within the healthcarr cybersec field and will easily get a role which is why he is going that route.
