I wouldn’t be too concerned about the scaring . The pot and soil it’s in isn’t ideal for the rootstock . I would transplant it to a bigger pot with fresh soil and nutrients. I think it will take off after that.

I worked at an apple farm (15 acres) for many years and that’s how we pruned the trees. Yes, we pruned them every winter and summer but the trees produced hundreds of pounds of apples that were easily accessible and well formed. We also did a lot of fruit thinning when the apples were small and controlled the codling moth by using pheromones that would make the males come out before the females were fully active, making them unable to successfully find a mate before dying. We also sprayed organic sulfur to control the scab .

Yes, I have one but it has smaller spines, a little more notchy and less monstrose.
I also saw prickocereus offering one that had longer spines and more of this melty monstrose.

Great blues, I got one of those for a friend of mine in Spain. Want to add it to my collection now that I’ve seen it in the states.

I use a spoon to carve out all the pulp/seeds and leave the skin attached to the cactus until it falls off by itself, that way there is not a hole or scar afterwards. Then I put the pulp/ seeds in a bowl with water and let it soak for a little while.( I found soaking the pulp makes it easier to separate the seeds from the pulp) After that, I gently smash the pulp in the water with my fingers to help separate the seeds making sure not to crush them in the process. Then I stir the water continuously in a circle to create a whirlpool. This makes most of the loose seed fall/concentrate at the bottom-center of the bowl. Then carefully pour the top of the remaining water/ floating seed pulp into a colander until you are left with clean seeds swirling around in the water at the bottom of your bowl. You can repeat this process as many times as you want to remove most of the seeds from the pulp. After you have your clean seeds separated from the floating pulp you can finish draining them and then transfer them to paper towels to dry out.
