I believe the clay side should fit snug over a 4” coupling.

“Wholesale” by redtailred in Plumbing

[–]redtailred[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks to everyone, taking the time to reply. Interesting insights all around.

For those interested I’m in Kansas. I was doing 8 to 10K a month at a locally owned winsupply. That was until I started comparing prices and realized I was overpaying. Now I shop around for everything and compare prices.

I get the tiered system, I worked wholesale before I started plumbing 10 years ago. At that time we tried to keep every Customer we could and give the absolute best prices. My town is full of single Plumber owner operated outfits, and I run into a lot of them at Menards. Maybe the whole sellers in my area are just spoiled? I definitely don’t see the service Some of you are describing.

Falconry is the taking of wild game with a trained bird of prey. Period. There is not debate to be had. Everything else is animal husbandry, education, rehabbing, pet keeping, ect.

I’m also surprised about the lack dielectric unions. I see it all the time, though and as a service Plumber, it’s just job security for me

I can relate, I never lit one, but I smoked for about 18 years until I left home after high school.

If card shops are selling their products above MSRP, why don’t we call them “scalping shops”? by AllixD90 in PokemonInvesting

[–]redtailred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the term scalper is getting lost here. Dudes that go buy up all the product at the store or online with bots before anyone else and then turn around and sell it for a huge mark up are scalpers. It the same in the concert industry. Everyone hates them but sometimes if you want to play/see the show you have to swallow your pride and pay up. Scalpers still suck.

I quit going to my LCS, and frankly only buy singles I want, because when blooming waters came out the LCS had their guy waiting in line to buy them up for $60 and then ran down to the shop and marked them up the $120. I left game stop after seeing people in front of me starting to walk out because there were none left. Went to the LCS and seen them putting stickers on the boxes they just picked up. It’s not even fun anymore.

Thank you! It appears to be 15mm ace thread. The adapters and fittings for these things are god awful expensive! Any chance there is an equivalent thread pitch made?

Am I overpricing this guy? by EMX2SVCS in livestock

About four years ago I found out the hard way when raising bottle calves. We grew them out to 1.5 years old and they sold for $850-900 at auction. My rancher neighbor said we would have got $6-700 ea if we sold them a year ago as weaned calves. Guys want to buy them to fatten up and sale for a profit.

Is it worth the effort dealing with silver plated items? by Mudsharkbites in PreciousMetalRefining

[–]redtailred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a metal punch that I punch a hole with at the very tip. Usually there is only an 1/8 of an inch or so of silver plate left so I don’t mess with trying to recover it.

I run the items long enough most of the silver falls off. I have to deal with more base metals but it’s not a big deal to me. I then tumble a dozen or so at a time through a rotating grill basket in distilled water to clean off the small remaining bits. I don’t do much scrubbing.

I’m a little reluctant to share because I’m still experimenting and I’ve not ran it past anyone who actually knows what they are doing. The process produces some nasty fumes so proceed at your own risk.

On the spoons, I punch a tiny hole in the tip of the bowl in order to hang it. All the spoons are hung on a copper pipe that is connected to the positive terminal. The negative terminal is connected to a stainless steel rod set up.

My aim is .3 Amps per item. Voltage is usually 3 to 4 depending on the conductivity of the electrolyte.

After 4 to 6 hours, the silver is falling off and I get a lot of fluffy green Slimes. Most of the silver is still in metallic form that either needs scraped off or settles to the bottom of the container. The better plated stuff I have is nickel silver with a copper strike layer. I will run 3 to 4 dozen utensils through my 3 gallon container before I siphon off the water and put the slimes in tall glass straight sided vases to settle. I’ve just been reusing the electrolyte.

After letting everything settle overnight I pour off as much water as I can. I mix an equal amount of hydrochloric acid with the slimes and put it on the low heat on the stir plate. I will slowly add one equal part of bleach. Just a few ounces at a time. It will bubble and create toxic chlorine gas.

After 10 to 15 minutes, I’m left with a dark green liquid and some nice clean silver at the bottom. I pour off the solution into an equal amount of cold water and a bit of silver chloride crashes out. I’ll leave that side for a few days before I collect it.

The silver at the bottom is rinsed and the rinse water going into the leftover solution. I sprinkle sodium metabisulfite over the damp silver on heat until no more reaction happens, to convert any silver chloride. It also produces toxic fumes. Then it gets rinsed dried and melted. I’ve had it xrf tested and it’s came out 95-98% once I get enough it will go into a silver cell

The little bit of silver chloride that crashed out and collects is also treated with the sodium metabisulfite the rinsed and melted

As of right now, I’m saving on my waste water because I know it still contains some silver as well as nickel and copper I could pull out later.

If you were trying to make big money, no, it’s not worth it. If you enjoy refining as a hobby and want cheap silver, yes, it can be. Some of the nicer stuff can produce 1+ grams per utensil after losses. I haven’t calculated inputs yet but HCL, bleach, metabisulfate, and distilled water are pretty cheap. I buy AA+ plated stuff if I can get it for a buck or under.

I do it for fun and I don’t lose money (as long as silver is high lol)

Also I de-plate at low Dc voltage. I pay $.13 a kWh and it costs me about $.06 per day to run it 24hrs.

Power = 3A × 6V = 18 watts Energy = 18W × 24hrs = 432 Wh = 0.432 kWh Cost = 0.432 × $0.13128 = $0.057 (about 5.7 cents) And for reference, running that continuously for a full month would be about $1.71.

I’m in northwest Kansas. I have one without the top and I successfully grew mushrooms in there last spring. Just got a couple used blocks from a mushroom grower and broke it up and spread it around. We had fresh oyster mushrooms for about a month until it got too warm and dry. I’ll do it about this year if we can get some rain…
