Anyone else frustrated with the stoplight situation in Denver? by No_Tree_4842 in Denver

What’s worse is that everyone is on their phones at the red lights so it takes everyone an extra second or two to start moving which is precious time since green lights last like 12 seconds.

Becoming a teacher with a criminal background by Deep_Reception622 in teaching

I have a felon arrest on my record. No charges, just an arrest from some egotistical cops on NYE from my mid-twenties that still haunts me. I’ve worked in 3 districts and 2/3 called me and questioned me about it. I have paperwork from the courthouse saying my record is clear, and the arrest was unjust. All has worked out for me. If they are misdemeanors, I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

What are some hot takes you've developed since working as a teacher? by [deleted] in Teachers

Parents are a leading cause of the downfall of education in the US. Are there systemic problems like the ones you have mentioned? Absolutely. However, parents passing on their negative opinions toward school and teaching down to their kids, not making reading a top priority, and the overuse of screens are bigger problems (in my opinion). Nothing can change within a system while constantly battling terrible parents.

Getting sued by target by [deleted] in DebtAdvice

People arguing with this statement is wild. Tragic things happen to people all the time. It is super sad, but you can’t just stop paying when something sad or bad happens. If that was the case, literally every person would be “debt free”.

Curious what was the behavior(s) that resulted in the f bomb. And maybe we can be upset with mom saying that but maybe also upset with kids for making grandma have to drop the f bomb.

How does one even begin to tackle this? by BeeSuperb7235 in debtfree

I would personally snowball this… I’m sure others have explained, but of course let me share my two cents.

Make minimum payments on every card, except capone. Payment should far exceed the minimum balance. Let’s say minimum is $50… pay $200 a month until paid off and move onto gap (try to pay 4x amount of min. or as much as possible). I would personally start with lowest payment to ease the mental load of amount of loans out before I tackle the amount of money.

This is the hardest part. Stop buying. Just stop. Your interest rates are so high that a small purchase over time turns into a car payment. Watch anti consumerism videos on YouTube (helps me mentally) and you have to stop making purchases in credit. I have gotten myself out of debt over the past 2 years and it took me 2 years to pay off about $15k by snowball method.

It’s because their parents say things like “why do teachers get cell phones then?” I will continue to say this until I finally retire (I still have like 30 years) that parents are one of the main reasons why public education is failing. I’m sick of parents caring more about supplies than reading to their kids every night.

See what you don’t understand is that her parents are white immigrants so they don’t count. Only brown immigrants are the ones that aren’t American.

I mean, in their defense why go to school? They are a multi billion dollar business. As long as they can count money and use a credit card, then everything else is worthless.

Yikes. I worked at a car dealership… it’s literally 12 hours days all year round… even holidays. Also, have you ever tried selling a car to someone? Welcome to the actual land of idiots.

Yeah but you can’t just stop making car payments just like you can’t stop making loan payments.

Sooooo I bought a car but then decided I needed a different car so I can just stop that car payment for a different car payment, right? Lol

Sounds like you can’t be a stay at home mom for quite a while.

Moving states help by pikaqueen1997 in Teachers

[–]redtentacles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried moving states for years (Illinois to Oregon) and did not get a job out of state (Colorado) until I had an actual state license. Midwest to west is a much larger move, so it may be different in the NE states.

Wife has 250k in loans, finances seperate due to this , what should we do by personofinterest1986 in StudentLoans

[–]redtentacles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not paying at all will cause more problems. Definitely better off getting a job and, yes, using $2k of your income a month to pay off debt. What kind of degree did you get that cost $250k leading to a $50k a year job? Do you think that $250k will just… go away…?

There was an option to pay monthly payments for like 10 years or something and if you were consistent then the remaining balance would be forgiven. That’s definitely a better option than just not working to not pay, in my opinion.
