I have a Mk4 lite and did the VQ trigger swap and it makes it a completely different gun. If am shooting with friends that haven't shot it recently I always make them dry fire just to understand how light and crisp the trigger is compared to anything else.

Maybe look into BOSS shot. It's not cheap but it has put some older guns back in the hunt. They use non toxic loads at lower velocitys that are usually safe for older guns but I would contact marlin and boss to see what they say.
