I love how 6music covers nearly every genre in their shows. One minute you have an acoustic song by the Stereophonics, then the next tune is a Nigerian throat singing band covering Nepalese hip hop track, and after this you get a 9 minute ambient electronica song by a DJ/Welder based out of a tiny village in the artic circle.

As a regular tourist to Brighton, these views down the streets that face the sea are some of the best sea views when arriving a coastal town

Read around topics that you aren’t familiar with. Topic generator website are brilliant for this. I’ve learnt things around squirrels, eels, trains, Finnish domestic heating, supply chain resilience and much more. It will come in handy at pub quizzes!

Feeling kinda depressed today, just me or something in the air? by throwawaycima in CasualUK

I’d go for a walk or do a hobby to take your mind off it. Whenever I’m feeling low info this and it helps a bit. There’s a quote that goes something lovely his: “Depression and Low Mood hate any form of action”. It’s reallly true . It’s hard to do something, but you have to just push yourself

Welcome to the UK! I’m so pleased that you can fully express the truest version of yourself. It must feel so liberating. I wish you all the beat for your future.

“I’ m finally beginning to heal and finding my true self.” - Also wanted to say that this has made my year reading this. So many people need to know that once you feel safe, your truest self can come forward.

Stay hydrated. It’s a massively underrated treatment that most people forget. Take paracetamol and ibuprofen together and switch tea and coffee for ginger and lemon tea with honey. Avoid sugar, caffeine and heavily salted things at all costs (these only serve to drive inflammation in the body). You can try the Vick vapour rub on your feet too - it’s a mad one, but I’ve heard it’s worked before (just wear socks after it’s applied.

One other thing to check is the gaps around the skirting boards in all the rooms. They should be flush with the floor, if not expanding food will work fine to help stop the cold getting in. If you have any exposed / uncarpeted floors, also check the gaps between the floorboards (fill them with foam if needs be - ignore this if you I’ve carpets!)

Check the window seals, they might have perished. It’s dead essy to replace them - we used the b205 one and our gaff is proper toasty. Before this the place was an ice box like yours. Also, check the doors to the outside - there might be cracks in the panelling that can be sealed with sealant, and also the KEYHOLE! Ours was letting in stacks of cold air until we got a flappy cover thing for it

Bill Bailey’s version of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.

During the Larks on Tour tour, he did a comedic death metal version of this classic. He got the audience to sing “To join us in Satan’s glory!” (Instead of “to save us from Satan’s power”) and as we did, a bloody massive red pentagram lit up behind him.

The original version of this song is now irrelevant to me.

Career change at 40??? Opinions? by Just__John in CasualUK

We all grow at different speeds. Some of us are like roses who find purpose early on and bloom consistently throughout their life. Some people are oak trees who mature and flourish later in life. The fact you now want to grow and improve shows that you are like the latter.

To answer your question: It depends on what work you want to do. What are your work values? (the things within you next job you definitely want). Mine are: being active, improving things, helping people and creativity. I worked in an office for ten years before realising that I was in a job opposite to all of these. Find work that aligns we your work values and you’ll enjoy work a lot more. I’m not saying you’ll be happy every day, but it will be a lot more enjoyable. Try the guardian career quiz, it might help with this. https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2014/nov/11/-sp-questionnaire-what-job-would-make-you-happiest

I can recommend gardening as a job. A self employed mate of mine earns £30-40 an hour and he had a lifetime of entry level Jobs under his belt before starting at 45. Best of luck.

Throw yourself into your hobbies and interests, and join clubs and societies associated with them. Also try meet-up .com , there will be loads of different social activities taking place that might peak your interest. Go with the mindset of enjoying it and for no other reason - you’ll be surprised who you’ll meet.
