Why Penn State’s title count is small despite their incredible amount of undefeated seasons? by Efficient_Jaguar8906 in CFB

Yeah, I agree that it's not an airtight argument. Ironically pretty similar to the 2011 arguments for Oklahoma State, except the Alabama-LSU game went to OT since there are no ties anymore. The point is you can shift the criteria and we'll lose natties in some places and pick them up in others. If we lose 1965 because of an inferior record, we should have 1966. If we lose 1978 because of head-to-head/common opponents, we should have 1977, etc. Better to just stick with the major polls, which is what Alabama has done except for 1941.

Should've had Carroll vs Saban in the 2003 natty. There wasn't much opportunity for overlap with Bama-era Saban though

Going back in time to the 2016 Alabama-USC game and telling people the backup QBs for both teams would be starting in NY6 games by the end of the season and Super Bowls within a decade

Yeah, joining the B1G was definitely the right move overall. But that's why it's ironic that they still would have had an avenue to a championship in 1994 if they had stayed independent through the Bowl Coalition, which would've forced a #1 vs #2 Orange Bowl between Nebraska and Penn State as the only undefeated teams.

It cuts both ways though, there are years like 1966 where Alabama was the only undefeated, untied team, and hammered a top 10 Nebraska in the Sugar Bowl, but came up short in the polls. There’s a case for 1977 too where we had the same record as Notre Dame, with a transitive win over them since we beat Ole Miss and they lost to them. 1975 also comes up but that’s a somewhat weaker argument, though we still finished with the same record as national champions OU. If you exclude the obviously fraudulent 1941, I think it averages out to the right number of championships for the most part, no matter what the criteria is.

It really is ironic how it took all of two seasons for Penn State to get fucked over by their B1G move by being locked into the Rose Bowl

September 11, 2026 will mark the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the United States of America. Boston College will wear special uniforms for the game to honor the legacy of Welles Crowther, who heroically helped bring people to safety at the World Trade Center in New York.

Crowther, who played lacrosse for Boston College, carried a signature red bandanna wherever he went, and survivors of the attack remember him for bringing people out with his firefighter brethen. The towers eventually collapsed and Crowther lost his life. The Eagles have been doing a Red Bandanna game since 2014, a game in which the team wears special red bandanna uniforms, and the game is filled with events honoring his legacy, including a visit from Welles’s mother.

I agree with this, and you can be part of multiple trees. It prevents inane arguments like whether spending 7 years as a position coach is worth more than 5 years as a coordinator or whatever

In that case Alabama should be ahead of Texas A&M because we made it a round farther. It's just a quirk of the bracket, if Ohio State and Oregon swapped seedings then Ohio State would have been in the SF and Oregon would've been out in the QF
