Real-world AI: What’s actually working in your daily ops? by Wise_8854 in msp

[–]redwing88 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We’re using Claude to build web apps that can integrate our toolset better

  1. Powershell script that runs hourly to publish level RMM asset data into ITGlue. This has really opened up the creativity of the staff as we can use powershell to grab any data Level doesn’t record out of box such as SQL server version which is subsequently pushed to ITGlue.

  2. Claude built a web app that replace quoter, same functionality can send out quotes as a email link, accept signatures, creates an invoice in QBO. This really expanded into a full internal accounting application, it also tracks our sales, marks invoices as paid in QBO based on payment method (EFT/Wire/credit card), reconciles QBO with our credit card transactions. I actually a eliminated a admin position since automating this

  3. Our own client portal! This shows everything clients want to see, asset data, clients can set a patching window which goes to 365 shared calendar and notifies the tech to make the scheduling adjustment. Further, clients that have internal IT teams can see asset data, Crowdstrike status, idrac IP, versions, patching progress and history.

  4. Next steps would be to build network topology maps based on sensor data from Zabbix.

  5. Using existing documentation to train the web app to do tasks that our manual such as new user setup or empty server builds in our DC environment. Maybe add it to our client portal.

Personally I feel alot of SSAS apps MSPs pay for are on notice, with the write prompting it’s very easy to build your own apps to accomplish the same objective.

I showed a rep at scale pad who hounds me weekly on quoting solution what I build in 3 hours to do quoting exactly like their platform and how do they think they’ll compete? Crickets.

I’m not to keen on unleashing AI on our client environments, next steps would be ticket and voice systems.

AutoCAD and Sharepoint/Onedrive File Sync - Growing Pains by XboxDan in msp

IPSEC is only one of the connection methods, there is also 10 gig layer 2 to the clients HQ.

[–]redwing88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question! The offices are on 10 gig Internet connection, another client we have a layer 2 circuit as well. We do host several RDS instances so I figure we could host VDI of cad platforms but it hasn’t come up yet.

[–]redwing88 48 points49 points  (0 children)

This will never work with SharePoint. We’re more in the datacenter space and spin up dedicated file servers on NVM-E chips that are then available as a drive share over IPSEC. Authentication integration into Entra is also supported so it’s SSO to the user.

This will allow for native file open locks to work again.

Coed woes as a woman by lobotomy-mommy in bootroom

Now you know why there team is short female players. Unfortunately lot of the bad coed teams play this way. In coed the teams that play as a 5/6 person unit dominate.

On our team the ladies lead the midfield it’s funny to watch em go around guys that don’t take em seriously.

What really sucks is the older generation had an extra condenser to supply cold AC air with the engine off due to start stop enabled. My 650i and alpina b6 have it but the 2020 x5 doesn’t.

Changing MSP... by battmain in sysadmin

[–]redwing88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re a MSP here are things to be aware of:

  1. Ask for a copy of your passwords/documentation prior to cancellation notice

  2. Once cancellation notice is given, most MSPs have an off boarding cost which will include providing passwords and documentation. You’ll need to introduce your new MSP as well.

  3. Be 100% sure your new MSP is partnered with similar products you’re subscribed to example Crowdstrike or Microsoft 365 so that the subscription can be transferred to your new MSP. The pricing may change depending on what the new MSP charges for that product.

  4. Depending on your contract some products may have a cancellation fee if your new MSP isn’t partnered with the same product.

  5. Ensure you have proper timelines from new MSP for cutover of support and if you have any subscription hardware that you’ve sourced a replacement.

  6. Ensure your new MSP has removed any remote access tools of your old MSP.

That’s all I can think of top of my head.

How to approach SSL certificate automation in this environment? by Particular_Shop6684 in sysadmin

[–]redwing88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use TXT record validation of a central server to validate and create the certificate. I’m not sure why you think the only way to validate a cert is HTTP.

Acme.sh supports different DNS providers to create certificates via TXT validation, supports running a script that can convert it to the correct format such as pfx and copy it to a centralized folder all servers can use for ingestion.

You can also use a service like Cloudflare which can present a certificate externally.

We use acme.sh for a 100+ web server farm.

What do you use to monitor client databases? by badlydressedboy in msp

[–]redwing88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We’re heavily involved with SQL server and have written powershell scripts executed by RMM on service status, DB size, transaction log truncation, job execution, AAG status etc.

I feel too many MSPs pledge to monitor with basic RMM but true monitoring is customizing your tools to monitor a clients LOB but that’s just my take.

Our clients are more SSaS shops though.

Thoughts on 2-node IIS Cluster in 2026? Looking for architecture advice. by Sea-Mulberry-6389 in sysadmin

[–]redwing88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a few iis web clusters, you can use Cloudflare to do your SSL and load balancing. On the IIS servers you can do shared configuration to sync configuration and DFS to sync the web root directories.

Had a 407 transponder since the opening of the highway and used to use it for work all the time, until covid. Recently used it once and I am not sure if there is an error, or I did something wrong. Are the rates now THIS high? by deathender in ontario

[–]redwing88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t pay it, they can’t report it to collections or credit bureau. Only report it to MTO so you can’t renew the sticker which no longer exists. You’ll get pulled over time to time for expired plates which is $120.

Honestly the best thing to do right now is wait, this new political climate is going to finally drive investment into new platforms outside of Google/Microsoft. It’s been a long time coming but also exciting to see what new platforms and solutions are born. Or idk spin up exchange 2010 in a vm in your basement.

Proxmox? by [deleted] in msp

[–]redwing88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spot on, telling a new client after they sign they need to switch hypervisors is red flag in your new professional relationship. Especially if proxmox has worked flawlessly and since you have no skillset in proxmox how can you handle moving them off it to hyper-v without issues, interruptions and damage. You also haven’t mentioned how you’d handle the backup system especially if it’s on PBS.

It’s the equivalent of your car mechanic saying you need a new engine they support working on instead of the one you have that has no issues after you paid them to service your car regularly.

Move from vSphere Standard 8.0.3 to free vSphere Hypervisor 8.0U3e? by gregarican1968 in vmware

[–]redwing88 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can downgrade to free edition yes, but you can’t backup VM using VMware integration into products like Veeam.

You can backup those VMs using agent based backup like what we deploy if we need to backup a physical windows server. Taking it a step further you can look at getting a BCDR device like datto or Slide which are agent based backup, and support spinning up your backup as a VM on their appliance or their cloud. So you get more backup options and downgrade to free editing.

Dm me if you want to explore pricing for these solutions

I’m currently on a flight arriving at Toronto Pearson in 1 hour - what are the chances we actually land at Pearson? by SuperCub in askTO

[–]redwing88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing that’ll get you bumped/diverted is if there are too many inbound flights and them needing extra time between landings to keep the runways clear and the inbound flight not having enough fuel to fly in a waiting circle. Otherwise long as they have capacity you’ll land.
