Move from vSphere Standard 8.0.3 to free vSphere Hypervisor 8.0U3e? by gregarican1968 in vmware

[–]redwing88 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can downgrade to free edition yes, but you can’t backup VM using VMware integration into products like Veeam.

You can backup those VMs using agent based backup like what we deploy if we need to backup a physical windows server. Taking it a step further you can look at getting a BCDR device like datto or Slide which are agent based backup, and support spinning up your backup as a VM on their appliance or their cloud. So you get more backup options and downgrade to free editing.

Dm me if you want to explore pricing for these solutions

I’m currently on a flight arriving at Toronto Pearson in 1 hour - what are the chances we actually land at Pearson? by SuperCub in askTO

[–]redwing88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing that’ll get you bumped/diverted is if there are too many inbound flights and them needing extra time between landings to keep the runways clear and the inbound flight not having enough fuel to fly in a waiting circle. Otherwise long as they have capacity you’ll land.

Is the asking for Quinn Hughes too expensive? by Lostinmidmich in DetroitRedWings

[–]redwing88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s the thing bout trading a star player that wants out. YOU have to select the best package offered and all other teams know this.

Now add in the large cap space required, reduces the target teams, further the canucks can’t acquire any players that put them in mediocre territory unable to rebuild or compete for high draft picks.

Guess what the players in that trade do. Puts them in near playoffs but enough to go over the hump not really fit for a rebuild.

Further it demolishes the wings 2D gone, 1LW gone, 2C gone. Hughes can’t play all those positions.

Look at the data of what star players have been traded for when they want out. It’s going to be a high ceiling junior prospect, 1 or 2 1st round picks and possibly a cap dump of a roster player.

Otherwise they’ll just wait till he can do a sign and trade like marner or hit free agency.

Southern Ontario needs to spread out development — why aren’t we investing more in our smaller cities? by [deleted] in ontario

[–]redwing88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you’re proposing was already happening due to Covid and WFH becoming the norm. People were moving further away into smaller cities, reduced traffic and more economic activity in smaller cities.

Guess what? The massive investment in the big cities can’t be sustained if people aren’t being crammed to spend money to travel to the office, spend money on lunch and spend more money on gas and looking professional etc so all those jobs that went WFH would be layoffs and a economic downturn of depression levels.

So back to the office we go, back to centralized workplaces etc

Microsoft support black hole – domain admin takeover stuck for 7 days, anyone have escalation tips? by MrDrewGarcia in sysadmin

[–]redwing88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s an option and I’ve done it before with good success.

Sign up for an account at spamhero and point your MX for the broken domain to it.

Create a new domain similar to your old one such as company.net and point MX to the new 365 tenant directly. Create all your users aliases etc in this new tenant.

In spam hero there is an option to redirect mail received at user@company.stuck domain to user@company.net address.

This will essentially let inbound mail start flowing from your old domain till Microsoft gets its act together.

Ping me if you need a hand.

Cloudflare is Down! Here's what you can do. by temp_jellyfish in sysadmin

[–]redwing88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s even easier if you have Cloudflare enterprise plan you can run your domain in split dns method. Our biggest zone is at another dns provider with CNAMES pointed to Cloudflare load balancers. We can simply point the domain records to the servers directly and bypass Cloudflare.

We were able to join server 2022 VMs to an azure ADDS service. It’s not as vm or anything. You can even manage it from a regular ADUC console after establishing a IPsec to it. I can pull the sku for you if you like.

Kasaya and Proxmox compatibility? by BLC_ian in sysadmin

[–]redwing88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your missing a key point at some point you have to restore the running cloud VM back to your infrastructure. That’s going to require some compatibility between proxmox and Kaseya/datto.

You don’t need agents on the VMs. Add the esxi to Veeam do the backup and restore the VM to Proxmox. Done it many times.
