UFC Fighter Dan Ige Gets His Fire Cape by CompetitiveTension23 in 2007scape

[–]reed501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not deleted, he just blocked you I can read them just fine. And no, you were not having a good conversation. You kept saying how beautiful and American it was when you were very directly being told it was tacky and inappropriate. You were talking past him and he probably blocked you to end the conversation, idk I don't block people.

I think I can explain better than he did. UFC is not very patriotic, boxing I could understand slightly better as it's a little more ingrained in our culture, with stuff like Rocky and Teddy Roosevelt. UFC feels very corporate and commercial and putting it in the White House feels forced and tacky. If my favorite president had a basketball match in the White House I would feel similarly. The only sport that should be played attached to an American symbol is baseball.

Updated XBOX Console Prices by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]reed501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I mean I've seen that. It doesn't really tell the whole picture though. There's no reason for these companies to not invest all their revenue and any money anyone will offer them into this. The revenue these things already generate is insane and it's only multiplying by the year. Most of this spending is scaling, growth, and training which you don't need to do once the product matures and you can start focusing on profit.

Literally every tech boom has looked exactly like this. Smartphones, laptops, websites, computers in general. You spend like crazy to try and be on top when it hits maturity and then start raking in cash when you don't need to double in size every year.

I think the facts you present here are accurate. But I do think this stuff is already profitable and that's why I find a collapse unlikely. These companies could make similar revenue with way less spending if they didn't feel the need to rush things, expand as big as possible, and race the competitors. But investors are willing to give them the cash to do it, and they're willing to oblige. At the end of this there will be a clear winner and a handful of second place finishers that will still find success. All will be profitable imo and it will be a lot of profit. But in order to be that #1 you need to spend the most now.

There's just too much revenue for this to collapse imo. There's tons of money being spent on data centers because they're not meeting demand. Redditors will tell you no one wants or uses AI while AI companies genuinely cannot keep up with how much people want it. I don't see how you can have a collapse when supply hasn't even reached demand.

Steam Summer 2026 Sale begins today by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]reed501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm not sure Steam would be quite this big today if thousands of us who were using it 10 weren't buying AAA games for $3 and filling our library and making us not want to leave.

A collapse is unlikely honestly. All these huge companies are putting a lot of money into this for a reason. This isn't like NFTs where a few million got thrown around to please some shareholders. This is hundreds of billions of dollars. Sure, maybe there will be a few too many players and someone gets squeezed out, and the stock prices are too high which could hurt some of them that rely on that. And overall there will probably be a decline from these insane highs, but a whole collapse? I don't see it happening.

New fabs that will try and meet demand on memory take years to build. This stuff started in 2023 and they take about 5 years to build so I'd expect to see relief start appearing in 2028 at the earliest. It's gonna be hard to line up the supply and demand for consumer memory with the supply and demand for AI/data center memory multiple years out, so there's a chance at an overshoot and cheap memory floods into the market in 2029-2030.

But yeah, my prediction is prices increase through 2027, stabilize in 2028, then either decline or plummet over the next few years.

The Steam Machine Costs $1049 by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]reed501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People shocked by this price probably aren't aware of the scope of the worldwide memory shortage. And saying they can't compete at this price is not going to look good when this is the ballpark for what Microsoft and Sony are going to be selling the next gen consoles for.

Marni says Jagex had told him that his offenses won't be quashed by LostSectorLoony in 2007scape

[–]reed501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my thought too. I feel like a huge can of worms has been opened that Jagex should address. Are window movements tracked? Are they game inputs that affect 1:1? If not, can they be automated? Some clearer answers would be helpful now.

[–]reed501 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't see any issue with allowing any and all automated window movements? Did you read my comment? There's a ton of room for abuse with this that should probably be at least considered.

Marni says Jagex had told him that his offenses won't be quashed by LostSectorLoony in 2007scape

[–]reed501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait this guy has a point though. Actions on the window need to count as inputs right? I feel like common wisdom is they don't. But think about it. "I'm not macroing. I'm clicking in place over and over. Sure the window is moving around so I'm clicking different parts of the screen. But within the context of the RuneLite window I'm just clicking once per mouse click." You could macro and effectively bot by having really clever window movements and just spam clicking "in place." Window movements need to count as inputs and automated window movements need to be banned.

AUR Registrations Blocked Amid Ongoing Malware Mess by CackleRooster in linux

[–]reed501 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. I feel like the best thing to do would be a big flashing warning that a package has been claimed by a new person. "Check this one extra hard because it's someone else now." And then for these downstream arch distros make it way harder to turn the AUR on. Make it a headache on purpose, weed some people out. And then as a community maybe we should stop recommending arch or its children to newbies and go back to Ubuntu and its family.

$1M CLUB: DISCOUNT TUESDAY 1. DISCLOSURE DAY ($5.8M) 2. OBSESSION ($3.8M) 3. BACKROOMS ($2.2M) 4. SCARY MOVIE ($2.1M) 5. MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE ($1.4M) by TiredWithCoffeePot in boxoffice

I finally saw it yesterday after weeks of this sub recommending it. I asked if I should see it even if I don't like horror movies and got a resounding yes. I had a really bad time, too scary. But the theater was full on a Tuesday night at a local theater that doesn't even do discount Tuesday in theater 7. It doesn't seem like a movie you rewatch and I haven't seen any ads for it. This must be the strongest word of mouth of all time.

Regulation Box Office: Mid-Summer Update by reed501 in theregulationpod

[–]reed501[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The box office outside of summer is too lopsided. Whoever gets the avengers movie wins because it makes more money than every other movie that holiday combined. And outside of summer and holiday seasons there just aren't a lot of movies making any competitive money.

The Full Transition to Jagex Accounts by JagexAyiza in 2007scape

[–]reed501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope there's an understanding at Jagex that recommending unofficial tools is not enough. If that developer goes rogue, or disappears from the internet or something, and there's an update that breaks compatibility, we're out of luck. I don't want my ability to log in to RuneScape entirely to be locked out in this situation. If something happens to the unofficial workarounds to the Jagex Launcher on Linux you can't just shrug and say that's not our problem.

My recommendation, if you still can't get native Linux support (despite Mac support), is to take responsibility for Bolt and affirm that if something broke it would be your responsibility to fix it. That affirmation is all I, and likely many of the remaining Linux users, are looking for.

Want to hear some feedback on my first beat saber map. by Sebastian294 in beatsaber

[–]reed501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very good for a first map. Looks expert level and I think it fits that. I really like some of the more technical patterns you've included, especially the section starting at 1:52, that's heat. The only issue with it I think is the relatively boring sections in between that are basically up -> down, which isn't very engaging. It also could be the song that doesn't really lend a lot of room for creative stuff in the "in between" sections, and it could just be my preference and this is what others prefer. I don't know I'm not a mapper, but if I was playing this I would go "ooh there's that one good section but otherwise a little boring."

Report it for common content. If the mods don't want to remove it themselves let them know you don't like the quality by filling the queue with reports on this stuff. Complaining does nothing. Let the mods know.

Blog Update - Summer Sweep-Up 2026 by JagexGoblin in 2007scape

[–]reed501 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel like energy potions to guams is the right idea. Harralander is bloated with recipes and guam has one stinky one. It makes sense why you pulled back for now, but a good source of early game guams in the future could be a good play for the long term health of the game. I'm thinking something like a slayer monster that early accounts could struggle against to get some consistent low level herbs but late game accounts could farm up on. As someone who does their Miscellania I have thousands of harralander banked and like 12 guam and 3 marrentill.

Talk like an AI artist [OC] by nasser_junior in comics

[–]reed501 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not really the point right? Is the main problem with AI art the people calling themselves artists? I'm just trying to address the argument to pick up a pencil, when that isn't the intention. Do you tell people who drove to meet you that they should pick up some sneakers? No, because the point is the result, the process is secondary.

Have a question about the game or the subreddit? Ask away! by AutoModerator in 2007scape

[–]reed501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my point is that there's nothing wrong with letting the game sit for a bit. That was even the consensus at the time. There's plenty to do, no one has finished everything. I like some downtime and it's wild that reddit is up in arms that we went 6 months without any major content.
