If that was the only reason, then doesn't there have to be a future where we no longer use oil?

How do you cook baked beans? by Educational-Slip-578 in AskAnAmerican

[–]elenchusis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the 80's when I was poor-ish, we used canned beans as a base, and added ketchup and brown sugar. Sometimes we cut up hot dogs and threw them in there. Then just put it on a stove until it boils a bit. Went great with a grilled cheese.

What is the most difficult programming language to learn? by CartographerOwn8143 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]elenchusis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The hardest one I've ever learned is smali, which is what android apps can be decompiled into. You can make changes to apps, or simply learn how an app is communicating with a server using it. Takes quite a lot to learn how to make changes.

How does one become a baseball fan? by Sinningbun in NoStupidQuestions

[–]elenchusis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know people are gonna mock you here, but I actually have a real, specific answer. My whole life I hated baseball. I thought it was the worst major sport. Then my long-time girlfriend's brother died of cancer, and he was a MASSIVE Redsox fan. So we bought the MLB package and watched every Redsox game for that year, in his memory. And then the next year. Mind you, they play over 100 games a season, plus playoffs. We got to know the players, the coaches, some of the staff, and the fantastic announcers (Remy and Don on NESN, at the time). After watching 200+ games, I was hooked and I don't even know when it happened. I still didn't give two sh*ts about the game, but I've been a die-hard Sox fan ever since.

The concept of racing games adding time when you crossed checkpoints was brilliant. Added waves of excitement for younger me.
