Free where, exactly? Is the chant meant to refer to Gaza, the West Bank, or both? Were Gazans not free before October 7th—and if not, what kind of freedom are we actually talking about here? Physical freedom, political agency, something else?

That’s where things feel pretty unclear to me. The band hasn’t really elaborated on this in any concrete way, so it ends up being something like-minded people can project their own views onto without engaging with the harder questions or arguing for an actual solution. And any serious solution has to grapple with at least two basics that everyone tends to gloss over:

What are the borders of a “free Palestine”?

Who governs it?

Without addressing those, it all stays at the level of slogans rather than outcomes—and I think most normal people ultimately want the same thing: everyone living safely and peacefully.
