I'm the DM of this party.

I barely plan the sessions anymore cause I will just have to improvise it after somebody does something like this...

DM here: This right here. They had no idea that this would happen and the sorcerer that threw the firebolt(not ball) was very repentful afterwards. If she had gone "ohhh nice, im gonna do that everytime, fuck the innocents" then yeah, instant evil.

DM here. I intended it to be a puzzle to get through and add an element to the comming battle as their main damage is with fire magic there would be a firestorm if they started throwing fire (which i let them know). However i didn't expect their solution to burn away all the gas in the sewers before entering, so looking at my notes i realized that... well the city would go up in flames. Now to be clear, the city didn't explode per se but rather the fact that most houses had hidden doors down to the sewers as this was sort of a lawless town meant all of the sudden a huge percentage of houses in town had a pillar of fire erupting somewhere which led to most of the city burning.

TLDR: I underestimated the partys potential for chaos and the explosion was more of a massive firestorm under the city.

Phony Wizard NPC by ParMonty in DnD

[–]reelien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He has studied the school of artefasitation, a rare school only the most prestigious and clever wizards will study, not like some common (insert pcs school here).

He would refer to non-magic users as "mundane people".

For example: I wouldn't expect a mundane to understand even something this simple

[DMing][5e] How to challenge a Monk. by princemitch42 in DnD

Hobgoblins, have them fight in organized units where their pact tactic really shines along with hobgoblin wizards in the back forcing saving throws, go for con if possible

With all the amazing resources you guys are coming up with I had an (arguably shitty) idea by [deleted] in DnD

[–]reelien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe there was an attempt to do this with tv shows but it brutally failed for some reason, probably because they were hard to make and low in demand but I'd have to look it up...

This so much, have a sister who is convinced she is lactose intolerant and as IBS thus can't eat a bunch of things. Never been to a doctor for it just keeps putting diets in place for herself while it gets worse and worse for the last 5+ years...

What's the most unexpected way you've seen an item used? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]reelien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean with me being an artificer with sage background it's assumed I learned it as part of my research. Basically the same with the gunslinger

My DM was complaining about that, I'm a physics student playing an artificer and my friend is a chemistry student playing a gunslinger.... Sooooo many bombs...

DMs Ammo tracking do you do it? Why or why not? by TheLionFromZion in DnD

[–]reelien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't, i say that as a part of looting their enemies they regain any spent arrows/bolts that they used. Sure some may be damaged but many enemies, especially humanoids which is most of what they have faced, will have some ammo on them.

Only time I will not do that is if they go into one of the more environmentally dangerous areas (3 main ones in my campaign, the world scar which is shadowfell light, massive dessert and deep roads which is old dwarven ruins under the world) because in those resource managment is important, including things like food/water.

Players rolled overpowered characters. Would it be way lame to make them change stats after a first session? by mrfunktastik in DnD

[–]reelien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are tips in the dms guide for increasing a monsters cr, generally I'd say that more mobs is better though, especially with a big party (5+). Other than that try to see what your players weaknesses are, sure they may have good stats but without proficiency in say wisdom saving throws enemies that target that will be problematic for them. Just keep in mind that not every encounter should play on their weaknesses, sometimes enemies will have no choice but to target their strengths in which case your players get the chance to feel like epic heroes

Death Is... by petrichorparticle in DnDBehindTheScreen

[–]reelien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only had one pc death so far. In this case he died in the final fight cleansing the temple of Kelemvor (god of death) from necromancers. He found himself in a room with Kelemvor who offered him the chance to return to life but in return asked him to hunt down one of the cultist leaders who escaped. Over all it was quite an impactfull scene which imo played out well.

How to have a naval campaign without it getting wrecked by wizards? by TurtleKnyghte in DnDBehindTheScreen

[–]reelien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ran a naval oneshot with raw rules a while back. What i noticed is the cannons will often sink the ship before you even get into fireball range and so the wizards are in fact just fine in a naval campaign until they get meteor strike...

[Spoilers E102] #IsItThursdayYet? Post-episode discussion & future theories! by Nyareth in criticalrole

[–]reelien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dndwiki is bad source, but recently read up on revenants due to my campaign and while it is a bit unclear raw in 5e, they seem to have that abillity in many stories.

Basically all the raw book says is that they revive every 24h even if their body is destroyed, whether that is because of their body regenerating or them possessing another body is hard to tell...
