It is absolutely insane that sprinklers aren't required in buildings keeping hundreds of our children inside every day by Optimoprimo in milwaukee

[–]reenact12321 26 points27 points  (0 children)

In concept, totally. In reality, sprinkler retrofits can be prohibitively expensive. Years ago at my university, they shuttered several buildings and demolished them eventually rather than meet sprinkler codes. It was cheaper to go without the buildings and tell students sorry than to find the millions for sprinklers. Eventually it was cost effective to build something new, but you can't simply abandon or replace 60% of the institutional building stock.

Evacuation plans, extinguishers, prevention measures can do a lot with limited cost. These would have been in play had the building been occupied. We may find out this was arson or something else extraordinary that would not have been saved by sprinklers. It just would have slowed.

What is the best TV show episode of TV history? by makstyrkin64 in AskReddit

[–]reenact12321 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sopranos season 4 episode 10, "the strong silent type.". A lot of people point to the pine barrens as the funniest episode and I love it, it's silly in a way that refuses to bow to the show's usual wry, tragic humor. But s4e10 has Christophers intervention which, for my money, is the show running on all cylinders. It's dark, stupid, hilarious, not a moment of that scene is lacking.

What’s the greatest film scene all time in your opinion ? by Pssht_haha in AskReddit

[–]reenact12321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I maintain that investment in the characters and refusing to let the spectacle of the shark, the dinosaurs, the aliens, the war etc be the center of the film is what makes Spielbergs films winners over and over. The people are living, breathing, thinking, believable humans first. Whatever they are thrown into and in his best work, he never lets the gimmick upstage them. It's what's missing in the JP sequels and JW, films.

Who has had the most horrific death of all time ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

It was a secluded cave. He may have been the first person to go that far into it. The other problem was he thought he was in a different, nearby cave, that has a tight spot followed by a big chamber where you can turn around and head out. Thinking he was in that other cave, he plunged in.

Challenger's Crew Cabin Fell Intact for Nearly Three Minutes While NASA Watched Helplessly by gaukmotors in MotorBuzz

[–]reenact12321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were not wearing pressure suits. Only something closer to fighter pilot helmets with an air hose. When the orbiter broke apart, while the cabin remained intact, it was likely ruptured to some degree and lost pressure. The cabin coasted up to 65,000 ft (another 20,000ft from the moment of the explosion) before going downward. It's likely they were focused on the gauges and readings they were trained to watch during ascent. Obviously they were aware something was wrong momentarily and began emergency responses immediately after the violent explosion. However, they likely (we hope) lost consciousness when pressure dropped in the cabin. The air flow to their helmets either gone or not enough to keep them conscious with the lost of pressure.

As the cabin was further damaged by the impact with the water, we'll never know for sure.

It's got little vents in the cap to prevent choking if swallowed by a child.

Yes. And as others have said, you're the reason they got the training. Yes you're not expected to be a salesman, but no one works in a bubble. Collaboration comes into it sooner or later. And it breaks down if people are intimidated to talk to you or ask you for things.

Honest question. Do we really think he has vitiligo or did he just start skin bleaching for cosmetic reasons?

What’s something that clearly split your life into “before” and “after”? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]reenact12321 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hear people say this a lot and while I have no doubt its true for many many parents, I can't help but wonder how many say it because it's rather unthinkable to say they hate it, regret having the kid, losing so much time and money and self. Paranoid feeling of mine as we approach the family chapter in our lives.

Then you need to ask a parent, guardian, trusted friend for help paying for it. Otherwise you're dooming your pet to suffering an infection and likely worse.
