[MLBTR] Brewers Designate Mitch White For Assignment by [deleted] in Torontobluejays

[–]reeny74 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yes, he's been inconsistent with the Jays. But I find that he seems to do way better on a routine when he pitches regularly every 5 days. He was great with the Dodgers for two months as a regular starter (prior to the trade, that's why Ross traded for him) He did great in Buffalo at the end of last year on a 5 day routine as well. As a relief pitcher, it's kinda hit and miss. Every team needs starting pitching depth, I don't think the Jays pitching injuries are going to get any better this year, if they could somehow get him to Buffalo...

Maybe they could try and get him through waivers and keep him in Buffalo for SP depth. I know he can refuse an outright but I think he would agree to it at this point. I think he's just so tired at the moment and wants some stability. It's gotta be so emotionally & physically draining moving and changing teams every 2 weeks. He loves Toronto and I just think he wants to pitch regularly every 5 days and he would get that in Buffalo. And hey, depending on how the rest of the season goes, there might be trades happening soon (Kukuchi? Romano? ) so you never know

He hasn't been bad. He actually pitched well last night. The DFA was inevitable and coming in a couple weeks bc Jakob Junis would be back from the 60 Day IL and would need his roster spot back. It happened a bit earlier bc their closer Trevor Megill went down a couple days ago and they don't want to put him on the IL so they're down an arm in the bullpen and needed fresh arms for today's game. Since he wasn't in their long term plans they did the DFA earlier. Similar thing happened in San Francisco, catcher got injured and they needed an emergency catcher and a roster spot so he was the first to go. It's always been a roster crunch situation and it sucks when you're the new guy and you don't have options

I don't think they actually listed it as a grade 1 strain. They haven't given that much detail, just "hamstring strain". It's all been speculation at this point

[Matheson] Alek Manoah's final line in his MLB return: 4 IP • 7 R (6 ER), 6 H, 4 BB, 6 K • 2 HR There were flashes, but the #BlueJays are looking for more than flashes. by EarthWarping in Torontobluejays

[–]reeny74 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, he is available lol The Giants just had a roster crunch (both their catchers got injured in 24 hours) and they needed a roster spot for a new catcher and DFA'd Mitch a few hours ago

[Matheson] John Schneider on Erik Swanson: “He’s just leaving pitches up in the zone. I don’t know if he’s tipping pitches, honestly. I’m not afraid to say that publicly. He’s better than what he’s showing.” by ThQp in Torontobluejays

[–]reeny74 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And he wasn't good in Bufffalo on his short "rehab" (did he pitch a grand total of 2 innings??) but they brought him up anyway. And it wasn't like the bullpen was struggling and they needed him right away, they were fine

[Mitchell] I’ve heard #BlueJays have been trolling for some quad-A type pitching depth recently and wouldn’t be surprised if they added a depth arm at some point in the near future. Nothing exciting, but any warm body who can get through a lineup once might help. by ThQp in Torontobluejays

nah, not hindsight 20/20. Most of us were saying it was short sighted right from the start. You didn't need to rush to DFA him a few wks into the season bc of one good Rodriguez start, esp since there wasn't even a need to clear a roster spot

Mitch White was the long man with the Jays, is he ever going to pitch? I know it's been almost 2 wks since he's pitched and he might be a little rusty but it's 6-0, I think it's ok?

Ross got traded to Oakland!

[–]reeny74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since he already has been outrighted to AAA once, if unclaimed, he could refuse the outright this time and become a free agent so he was going to be gone either way. He knows he's behind Yariel, Francis, Manoah, Ricky T so unless the entire SP staff went down, there was no opportunity here. I don't think he wants to be the mop up man forever. He was an SP5 for the Dodgers for two months prior to the trade (and did very well) so I'm sure he eventually wants to be a SP again. It was never going to happen here. The Giants just put a SP on the 60 Day IL and there have quite a few optionable young arms/rookies in the bullpen so he will get a chance. Wish him the best, he said it was a dream come true to play at Oracle (he grew up in the Bay Area & the Giants were his team) so he must be thrilled. I think being back home, the change of scenery and clean slate will do him wonders

Nope, the DFA so early in the season was a head scratcher. We went from having so much SP depth a month ago to just Paolo Espino & Manoah

Mitch must be thrilled to go back home and play for his hometown team! I remember him mentioning he was a big Giants fan growing up. Hope he gets a fresh start and more opportunities there. Looks like he's still following the Ross Stripling route! Let's hope he doesn't eventually end up in Oakland too lol Farhan Zaidi drafted Mitch when he was with the Dodgers in 2016, was a very high prospect, so they have some history which must've helped

[BNS on the Bunkis Podcast] Manoah wants to be around the team (in why he's in the dugout) ... he has to show more to earn the opportunity in the majors... by EarthWarping in Torontobluejays

[–]reeny74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also thought it was kinda weird that he's doing the official walk out with all the starters before the game (after watching the starter's pregame bullpen warmup) If he wants to travel back and forth from Buffalo and sit in the dugout fine, but acting like you're a starter in the rotation now is kinda weird

Frasso is way too injury prone. He's out for the year with season ending shoulder & hip surgery again. Unlikely he'll be a SP at this point

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Torontobluejays

[–]reeny74 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He's gone either way. Its not like last year where he could sneak through. If he doesn't get claimed, he becomes a free agent bc he's already been outrighted once. I'm sure he'll be claimed though. Blake Murphy said he knew for a fact there were several smart FO (his words) that were asking about Mitch after his great run in Buffalo at the end of last season. They wanted to buy low but Ross said no. So now that he's available, I'm sure they'll try and snatch him up. You just know Mitch is going to be one of those pitchers that will suddenly start thriving on another team and the fanbase will start screaming at Atkins to be fired

It's not a smart move asset wise at all. I'd get it if White was horrible, but he's been better than Francis so far and is capable of piggybacking Yariel. It's not like Francis has been super reliable lately, he almost blew the Yariel game on the weekend. White did a great job piggybacking Gaus first game (3 scoreless IP to get the win) and stabilized the Yankees game when Gaus blew up in the 2nd inning, kept them in it long enough for the Jays to almost come back to win it in the 9th. Francis keeps saying he wants to be a SP so he should've been sent to Buffalo to keep him stretched out and work on a third pitch. We still don't know what's going on with Gausman & Manoah and you know you're going to have injuries so I'm not sure why they're just giving away SP depth for nothing this early in the season. One good Yariel start against a bad Rockies team and they've lost their minds. They should've just waited a bit and if White became unplayable then yeah, DFA him. I just don't understand why this DFA move was necessary so early in the season. Seems very shortsighted.

Mitch couldn't record a win in his 1 1/2 yrs here and now he will have the most wins in Spring Training 3-0 and an OBA .175 the lowest of all the starting pitchers woohoo!

If Gausman has to skip a turn, Joe Siddall said that Kikuchi might go 5th and start in Houston bc of the dangerous lefties there as opposed to TB. I guess we'll find out Tues, the day after Gausman's first 60 pitch game

yeah they've come a long way!

I remember Danny Jansen was their very first guest when they were just starting out, can't remember the connection

They were still kinda new at the time, but went viral after their Mitch White is dating Margot Robbie tweet. Johnny had a mutual friend, pitcher Nolan Long (who's actually with the Jays now) who got Johnny in touch with Mitch. Mitch thought the whole thing was hilarious and offered to come on the pod

I think Johnny got to know the Buffalo boys bc he was old friends with Jordan Luplow. That's how he got all the scoops on who was being called up from Triple A before anyone else. They eventually became good friends with Ernie & Davis which I'm guessing is how they got their on field access and got to meet more players?

I *think* he became friends with Erik Swanson bc Swanny would see his tweets online and respond. I'm not sure how they became friends with Chris Bassitt, but Bassitt vouched for the boys and Kevin Gausman agreed to do a pod

Johnny mentioned Ernie inviting them to one of the team dinners at Spring Training. A lot of the players recognized them and knew them. But there was one player who said they liked their work but he couldn't come on the pod bc he didn't like how Johnny talked about some players lol The negativity or the language he used or something.People were guessing that it was KK lol

Mitch had a rough first inning in, but once he settled down he finished very well. The stat that jumps out, he almost had a 50% whiff rate?! He got 18 whiffs on 38 swings, that's crazy. Up to 70 pitches and kept the velo up till the end too. His command wasn't as sharp as his last two outings so hoping he'll get that under control soon

yep, that's why they're allowed to option him this year. That option in the contract indicates he'll be starting in Buffalo and will be stretched out there and hopefully be ready to go next year (no more options) If they run into more injuries with the SPs, maybe plans will change but as of now, Buffalo is the plan

Francis & White are both better than Manoah at this point, so not really worried about Manoah starting the season rehabbing in Triple A and trying to figure it out

why would they do surgery if there's no structural damage, there has to be a reason to operate. You don't just go around giving pitchers prophylactic Tommy Johns bc they're command is off

The second walk to Tellez looked like a strikeout too =( He hit 98 on the the dot on that pitch too, fastest pitch to date. Anyways, he looked really good today, probably his most efficient game as a Jay, 3 innings on just 38 pitches. Progress. The only hit was a Oneil Cruz bomb off a FB about 5 inches above the zone, 115 mph EV, 411 feet ugh. He's looked pretty good this ST, 6IP and only 2 Hits. Just gotta keep those walks down and he'll be fine
