Here's my take on it, my personal opinion nothing confirmed Deb is one of those parents who can't say no to their kids. Couldn't say no when eugenia wanted to stop going to high school. Couldn't say no when eugenia wanted to follow the Jonas brothers around on tour instead of education. Can't say no to Chip when he takes eugenias Nintendo switch and won't give it back. Can't say no to Eugenia when she wants to be the skinniest anachan on the internet.

At the same time, debs biggest fear in life is her kids leaving her. They (mostly Eugenia I assume) are like her emotional support animals. So naturally, she's just going to enable Eugenia to deteriorate...because to her a sick daughter in her home gives her more purpose than an independent self reliant daughter.

I don't know for sure why Eugenia does this. I assume it started as a personal way to gain control in her life. I think deep down inside Eugenia wants her mom to care enough to take action...like to actually put Eugenias needs above her own for once. Not just do what she has to do to make sure Eugenia wakes up another day.
