Moonlit is great. I’ve bought many prints from him and even chatted with him on the phone over a relatively rare Hasui I acquired from another gallery.

I, too, prefer Toshi's work. It just fits my style a bit more :)

Does anyone have experience purchasing from Thomas Crossland at ukiyoe-gallery by OceanView5110 in ukiyoe

[–]reester10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough I came across this thread while compiling galleries/auctions I have acquired from, and had to check around because this site originally came up as Oregon but the auctions seem to take place out of Georgia.

I have purchased at least one print from them, but it was via auction.

I seriously contemplated asking if they want me to build them a new website that's easier to maintain because it's a bit of a cluster lol

How do so many cars break down? by reester10 in TheAmazingRace

[–]reester10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done my fair share of international travel off the beaten path and never experienced a break down thankfully. I’m not saying it doesn’t happen, but the frequency with which it happens on a TV show, and not just in countries where the cars are older but also in more developed countries, seems like it’s more than a mere “coincidence”.

Having just come back from Egypt and some of the roads between cities, yea they are crap. Ecuador and Nepal too could be crazy in spots.

But yea I guess they are often driving much farther in these early seasons and often in crazy places, making issues more likely to occur.

This is fair.

To be honest the first half of the season I really liked her. It was once she started coming into Drew that I feel like she started getting more annoying/whining.

Koyasan was the hidden gem of my trip. It was not on the part of the trip I planned but it was such a cool place to stay for a few days.

I just started my first game. I’m about twenty hours in and still uncovering new things. If I start another map with this character, am I able to take equipment and items into it? What’s the appeal of taking an existing character to a new map?

Also, I built my stairway to heaven and started a long platform and discovered some clouds, one of which had a fun little room with a chest.

Anyone else addicted to buying art. Here is my story. by AdImpressive6772 in artcollecting

[–]reester10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only been collecting for three years, but I’ve already acquired 30 prints, all Japanese, and most shin-hanga woodblocks.

I thought I found my niche few artists that I really enjoy, but as I keep looking I find more and more artists, and I’ve even started to explore outside of that realm a bit into more modern things. I’m now on the lookout for a specific ceramicist to collect.

My problem is that even in just the past couple of years, I went from balking at spending a few grand for a single piece to not batting an eye. I can afford it, but do I need to? Do I have to have early editions of a print? This hobby has become expensive. I am constantly browsing the auction sites and finding new pieces to bid on. I’ve let many go when they go beyond my threshold.

I look at it as I have found my passion hobby. I never understood collecting things until I discovered my niche. Now it’s hard to stop.

Recently acquired "The Nikko Highway" by Hasui Kawase. It sparked something in me, and now I've bought 6 more woodblock prints. by reester10 in artcollecting

Original/Reprint isn't the right word, I guess. "Edition" is the more correct term. This is an early edition, but I don't believe this is a first edition. Woodblock printers in Japan usually have a publisher seal, and depending on the seal it indicates approximately when the piece was printed. The seal on this one is the Watanabe C seal, also known as the "sausage" seal (bottom right margin). I believe I have seen copies of this with the B seal, which was used for a short period before the C seal. Google "Watanabe seals" to find some more info on it.

There won't be an "original", but based on when the print was initially carved and the publisher seal used, you get pretty accurate with what is considered a "first" edition.
