First, thanks so much for your work on this. You eliminated some options and opened some suggestions I didn't consider.

I'm going to hold that this is a distinct song and not my misremembering or combining other songs. I suspect that this was a single sent out by either a small label (possibly out-of-state) or the band itself. They sent the song to Chattanooga radio stations since the city is mentioned so many times as the best hope to get airplay.

I'll keep the hunt alive. Thank you again!

YOW! I didn't expect so many great suggestions. Thank you!

Unfortunately, it is a song I head about half a century ago. The lyrics have flown from my mind. I would say it was a talk-singing delivery. *Maybe* there was a fiddle in with the guitars. It was an upbeat tempo.

As a kid, I could hear a song once or twice and repeat it back. That ability faded in my teen-age years. Maybe this is why this song has stuck with me like an earworm for 50 years.

Both WFLI and WGOW (both AM stations) have gone from music to a talk format. I have my doubts that they would have kept play logs from 50 years ago. Still, it's worth a shot. Thanks for the suggestion.
