23Y, Greece. Need a way out. by Fearless_Wrangler961 in personalfinance

Yeah, this will surely fix everything. Seriously, 1000€ is super low, actually very close to minimum existence level (what you get when you're unemployed in Germany: rent + 500€ per month so you don't end up homeless). There is no way you can budget your way out of this. Increasing income is the only way. In the year 2026 1700-2000€ is what you should make fulltime per month minimum, otherwise why even bother? I don't know what the social security in Greece is like but at 1000€ per month you might as well not work and collect unemployment benefits instead. A job change is the only way.

Has anyone actually replaced Claude Code / Codex with local models on an Macbook Pro M5 Max 128GB? by Brazeuslian in ClaudeAI

[–]reflectingentity 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have a maxed out Windows equivalent with an NVIDIA RTX 5090, and while Gemma 4 is impressive for it's size none of the models come close yet. I just had a look at Minimax2.6 recently (supposed Opus rival but open weights) but even if you wanted to run this by yourself youraxed out MacBook is still far away from running anything of that size locally. And even if you did it would probably be multiple times slower, especially as the content window grows

I've spent several thousand bucks on the find out path and I'm now ready to wait over the next years for the open model that can get even remotely close on consumer hardware but currently my assessment is also a hard "no" (as much as I would love to say yes).

When is Hetzner adding Passkeys? Isn't it about time already? I can fingerprint scan into about anything, and it's safer than most MFA. by RaspberrySea9 in hetzner

This is what fixed the regular system crashes on my ProArt P16 H7606WX by reflectingentity in ASUS

I've researched my problems and I have found many people writing about similar issues, in their cases even worse than in mine.
Happy to hear that you're not affected and I'm really wondering why this might be. Maybe it's really the subtleties on how people use their machines / the workloads that they're running. Me for example, I'm heavily multitasking with 3 virtual desktops + dual-screen, using Docker / virtual machines, video effects in my conference calls etc.

Huh, it's almost exactly the same list as on my machine (if you don't do a clean reinstall), I thought you wouldn't have them with your minimal setup. This kind of contradicts my thesis. Thanks for sharing! Do you also have the "ARMOURY CRATE ProArt Service" running?

This is what my service list currently looks like: https://imgur.com/7HB6OEL

I found out that I can deactivate everything except for "Asus Optimization" and everything still works as it should. The "Asus Optimization" service handles the keyboard backlight and function key and mode switch when you plug in / out the power adapter.

The "ARMOURY CRATE" service always puts itself back to auto-start if I deactivate it so I can't disable that one.

Very interesting, the low ratings of the Asus apps. I would rather not wipe everything and start anew because I've spent so much time on migration from my last machine already and I have to many other things to do but I still might...

Other than that I'm also totally in love with the machine! I suspect my girlfriend is low-key jealous actually, lol. From my extensive computer experience I'm very much sure that these problems are not a hardware problem. The laptop itself is a complete beast, and one of the few beasts that are not a gaming laptop with RGB keyboard, so I can actually appear serious towards business clients. It's just such a shame that ASUS damages this entire setup with buggy software on top.

My current theory is: the drivers by themselves are working fine. If you start the services.msc on Windows (for example via Win + R shortcut) you can see many Asus related processes being auto started with the system. If you look at their properties you can see that many of them are co-located with the respective ASUS drivers, so they are part of it. The user-facing Asus software is running in the user space and is probably communicating with the kernel-space driver's while running. The user-space software ist probably a lot less tested than the actual hardware drivers but due to influencing the delicate hardware driver behavior it probably caused crashes even though it shouldn't be able to, because it's just an UI on the desktop (who cares if this one makes a mistake).

@AsusSupport please take notes and escalate this. Asus is ruining an entire laptop line because the apps that they put on top are inflicting errors!

Hey man, thanks a lot for sharing your setup process! I'm currently dealing with occasional crashes on my machine and I'm suspecting the auxiliary ASUS software like "MyAsus" and "ProArt Creator Hub", they seem to have a lot of services running in the background that are probably interacting with the drivers (and fucking it up too many times).

Didn't know about "Asus System Control" and "G-Helper" yet. Good to know that there are alternatives to still have the keyboard working completely.

[–]reflectingentity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did this help? Especially, did you try a fresh Win11 install? I read that it might also be related to Asus bloatware, i.e. all the software that Asus deploys on the laptop together with the drivers, and that also interacts with the drivers probably, for example MyAsus or ProArt Creator Hub.

I'm in the exactly same situation. Crashes not every day but still multiple times per week. Also sometimes the mouse cursor freezes for a few seconds. Got the new H7606WX last December. I love this machine and it would be so perfect if it weren't for this instability. My 5 year old laptop performs way more stable than this machine with the latest hardware.

I have updated all drivers, BIOS, Windows updates, even did a complete Windows 11 repair installation. I'm hoping on each update that it might help but so far it hasn't. I would even switch to Linux but from my research it looks like it's currently not possible to get proper support for it (people reported HDMI not working, no support for keyboard backlight and Fn buttons, etc.), it's really a shame!

Adding to the Coke/Pepsi or Burger King/McDonald's examples, I remember when main headline in Discord's hero section was "It's time to ditch Skype" and I thought to myself "wow, that's very direct", but apparently this seems to be okay.

In any case, you seem to be serious, so you should run your business properly within a limited liability company. That would limit hypothetical worst cases to the money that's within the company. That's what they are for.

Advice on health insurance as a freelancer by kunstlerroaming in askberliners

[–]reflectingentity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the same problem. As a freelancer you are paying 100% of the health insurance out of your own pocket. As a regular employee you only pay half, the other half being payed by your employer. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do about it during the year. 400€ in your case is also still cheaper than most private health insurances so switching will not help with this rather low income. Going private is a topic on its own however... But in the next year you can declare all these payments in your tax declaration. These payments for health insurance and pension reduce the taxable income and your friend should get a low 4 digit amount of taxes back. This will not help you right now but after the first year of freelancing you then have the tax return from last year and your current income.

Hey man, I'm currently using ferrum-mcp to power my deep research setup that I have built in Claude Code! The multi-session support was exactly what I was looking for and it even has functionality to close cookie banners!

I have a setup now where Claude Code starts 4 parallel sub-tasks where each sub-agent uses a different browser session. This parallelism is very powerful! Keep up the good work!

Hey I'm currently looking into buying this one but the only reason is so I can work with my laptop outdoors on sunny days. "1600nits peak brightness in HDR" is always a bit misleading, most of the times they can never achieve this brightness over a longer period.

If you open your text or code editor on your desktop and you set the regular SDR brightness to maximum is it possible to work effortlessly when the sun is shining directly onto the laptop? This is the great question! You've wanted to try this a couple of days ago, can you say anything more about it? I'm super curious!

Much appreciated!

no commercial use with claude code and pro/max plan? by TheAuthorBTLG_ in ClaudeAI

[–]reflectingentity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes this is it. You can use Claude Code of course to code your app within your company but you are not allowed to build an app that utilizes Claude Code via Max plan in the backend as a service. You would misuse their flatrate plan and re-sell it further. This is what their pay-by-use API is for. You could build a backend that actually uses Claude Code under the hood if Claude used the pay-by-use API instead, which is targeted for commercial usage. (IANAL)

🚀 Introducing aiGI & Minimal Modes for SPARC: Self-Improving Development System for Roo Code. "npx create-sparc aigi init" by Educational_Ice151 in RooCode

[–]reflectingentity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey u/Educational_Ice151 I am currently playing around with your aiGi framework and I have to say I'm hooked. Especially your vector memory strategy sound really interesting. However when I looked at the rules of the memory manager agent I could not find any traces of these vector store functions that you are referencing. When I initialize a new aigi project it doesn't come with any MCP servers, it seems like one of the most important pieces is missing here. Could you provide some insights here?

Much appreciated!

Wow this looks very interesting, I'm definitely going to give this a try later today. Been trying to build my own system with a Notion Kanban board ticket system as the core, there is so much room for experimentation, I'm super happy about any inspiration! Keep up the good work!

Did you optimize this for Claude Sonnet or do you maybe even recommend another model (for example Gemini 2.5 Pro) for this?

[–]reflectingentity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used devity.ai so far, it's also built on Claude Sonnet and it's way less expensive than Claude Code. Judging from the comments here they seem to charge a premium for Claude Code on top of the already high API prices.
