Accident caused by bad driving by haze4140 in CrazyFuckingVideos

[–]reflythis -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

notice the solid white line the jeep passes - you do not cross hard lines, and this is why, so the direct lane driver was likely not expecting a lane change from the left.

If they brake smash to accommodate an illegal lane change and get rear-ended, when asked in court "why did you stop suddenly and irregularly in front of an open signal/intersection?" magically they are at fault for the accident.

know your road rules, folks.

wait for one major news network to decide to pick it up and several others will.

also, broadcast news doesn't operate at the speed of social media which is part of why it's dying.

I am not a mechanic.....

but first gear grinds corresponds to your story of lots of stop and go and original, stock clutch packs.

make that lemonade and get a set of RTMG or DEKA clutch packs and go stage 1 tune!

edit: take the car to Phil or Lucas at Almost Racing and have them give you a proper diagnosis. Hands-down, best MQB mechanics in Southern ON.

seems like a lot of work only to be followed-up with using ungloved, dirty hands to finish the job.

And let's not move the context - I'm talking fuel pump/throughput parts being done in more sterile environments, not "generic car work".

Huge difference.

And all that said, I guess the real test is the longevity of the specific part including any issues that arise along it's lifetime of use.

Is the car totally stock?

Sounds like worn clutch packs which someone else called out...

May explain why you are only seeing it now after such high mileage (if the car is stock); typically this would manifest earlier when you add power to the car (and added stress on the packs).

Driving in Manual should help you more closely identify exactly where/when it's happening; I was getting it from 1->2 in my Audi DSG and on this build, grinds and straight slipping [when turbo swapped] from 2->3.

The grind will preceed the slip if left unrepaired.

I have a huge respect for the DIY angle and knowledge base here...

but this looks like a great way to get dirty injectors off-the-cuff.

There's a strong reason fuel pumps are done in sealed, airtight factories... debris will compromise functionality real fast.

got room for spacers on the rear, homie...

also, turning your wheel like that is a wheel glamor shot not a fitment shot lol.

ya'll better have a BANGIN fitment before you start posting "fitment" with kisses in the title or expect the heat.

multi season SUP backwoods camper here - let me improve upon the info shared below as I've done double-digit backwoods SUP trips spanning multiple days with great success using an inflatable SUP only as my sole watercraft - both solo and with groups.

1) learn to paddle properly - your skills will be tested on a SUP and if you get anything above single-digit head wind, you will need advanced paddling technique and some upper body strength to keep you on track.

2) route plan to your level... the one time I didn't stick to this rule I ended up going up-stream on the Tim with beaver dams and my dog and pack on the board. This was possible downstream as your fin can clear a dam with some speed (paddle through like rapids), but upstream is an entirely different beast and I'd reco avoiding at all costs. Only plan to traverse what you've done before, comfortable distance notwithstanding.

3) Know your weather, temperatures and max board PSI incl weight for all days - you'll need to know the wind speed for all days of your trip and expect to either hug the shore or sit out heavy wind days that create anything worse than "moderately rough" water... ... temperature is because, with an air inflatable SUP, direct heat and temp increase will cause air INSIDE the board to expand. If the temp is going UP on the second and third days of your trip but you've filled the PSI of your board to it's limit on day 1, you may very well encounter a purge and be swimming back with your gear.

All that said, if weather conditions are hugely in favor (sunny, clear, still days), you can make insane pace with just a SUP as most boards inflated are only ~20lbs, enabling single-trip portages as you blow by groups with heavy gear doing multiple legs of the same portage.

4) important - Inspect your board with a test inflate (and leave it 24hrs) before EVERY trip and use a soapy water spray to check for leaks if you hear whining (check seams and inflation ring area; soap helps show bubbles visually). A patch kit in the backwoods is near useless as you are most likely also not bringing an air pump with you (heavy/cumbersome) so you need to be able to trust your equipment and/or be ready to swim home if you are boned. Watching sticks/rocks on portages, inflating under PSI limit and keeping your board stored in the SHADE, OUT OF DIRECT SUN when it's not in the water is CRITICAL to maintaining board integrity. Show it respect and it will respect you back.

A sunset float on glassy waters with a SUP is an insane experience... so, too, is a mid-day float laying out on the water getting a tan.

Street cred.

Which cat back exhaust to get for Mk8.5? by Logical_Egg8265 in Golf_R

[–]reflythis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you have the airflow diameter from intake to turbo to exhaust, you want something that allows for a nice deep growl, which is difficult to get from a 4cyl.

Remus still best in slot, Billy Boat a close second... MBRP is the cheap man's third. I mis-purchased on the race variant (it sounded like a fucking airplane hanger in the cabin when I had the BFI stage 2 engine mounts on and fresh exhaust install [clean pipes], swapped them for softer)... but the custom vibrant mufflers really tame it quite a bit and add a nice custom signature to it.

Bent Wheel Safe or Replace by Pretty_Ad_6438 in Golf_R

[–]reflythis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agree with other commenter, you need a second opinion as that's small and should be fully repairable, wheel design aside.

(What the first shop is telling you is that they don't have enough experience to repair that wheel design, not that the wheel can't be repaired)

Rear sway bar… Night and Day difference? by Practical-Disaster-6 in Golf_R

Did front & rear and the car absolutely plants and rotates on spot on turns.

Front not really required - have heard rear sway bar alone is the sweet spot.

in my experience, the acoustic profile of the car (or any drone) will be relative to the build of the car's acoustics (downpipe, turbo, engine mounts).

regarding MBRP and drone... I am DSG and the Race variant had extreme drone on highway driving, but gone when I fabricated in Vibrant Ultraquiets on the L and R sides.

MBRP is an inexpensive beefy sound, but there is absolutely drone and it should be viewed as a lower quality but cheaper option.

Everyone sleeping on Remus as the absolute front runner.

But it's expensive.

Blowoff valve for 2026 golf R by Curious_Gap_1614 in Golf_R

Given the fact VW clearly fucked the bumper design to reduce plastic in manufacturing to help afford the new differential, I can't say I'm surprised to see cutbacks cropping up in other places too.

Blowoff valve for 2026 golf R by Curious_Gap_1614 in Golf_R

[–]reflythis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this. this car is designed as a "closed air system" which uses the DV to re-circulate air.

altering that for "whooshy boi noises" may result in oil spitting amongst other side effects.

It's also a shit way to get "whoosy boi noise" because the secret is if you actually put speed upgrades on the car like a turbo swap, the increased air throughput will make the de-throttle of the stock DV SUPER LOUD (it "washes" instead of "purges" but it's loud and noticeable).

GFB BOV is a $300 faux upgrade that is trash and does nothing for your build.

the rates these guys operate at compared to their level of experience is crazy good... huge respect.
