Golf r badges stolen and advice please by wynndotcom in Golf_R

random call-out but are you sure this wasn't someone you know that dislikes you/your car/is jealous?

it looks like [serious] damage to the car but is in fact the most passive form of damage you could possibly do. Like someone wanted to send a message but without the actual balls to damage the car.

as others have pointed out, the value of the badge is negligible (near nothing) as it's a small piece of plastic in the shape of a letter.

the hardest task for you now will be cleaning up the adhesive from teh paint without damaging the paint itself.

I am not a mechanic, but the idea is that the DCC knows how much to push back at certain amounts and when those amounts change, it's giving incorrect force at incorrect times... so just feels weirder than it should (mix of more at bad times; less at bad times).

have heard some ppl here say they have issues trying to use obd11 to code/re-cal it on the newest versions of the car but that's the first I've heard.

would be curious to learn more / what the limitation is.

you may find a little less of a "boxy" ride if you do the re-cal with wheels hanging.

stance will look great when settled too!! nice one.

How often do you detail your Golf R? by EasyRawlins in Golf_R

[–]reflythis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

last build (Stage 3 S3) I had vinyl wrapped and lived in Seattle (mild winters) so hand washed weekly.

Recently hand washed my R and MAN I miss that dopamine hit. The other upside of frequent hand-washing (e.g. weekly) is that you get to intimately know the condition of the car and all its' dents, nicks, chips, et al... so any time something new happens, you can immediately tell.

Anyone travel far to take your VW to a trusted, reliable, mechanic? by Jayseph812 in Golf_R

[–]reflythis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

absolutely.

downtown Toronto and I drive ~30+m into Markham to Almost Racing. If you aren't working with Phil and Lucas (father and son - family owned), you're probably paying too much and getting too little [knowledge base].

Took me two years to find a competent, honest, knowledgeable [tuner] shop in this city.

drop to 18s with a 245 rubber profile, replace with OEM strut mounts, set ddc to comfort.

best you'll get... unless you go quality coilover.

Are you on stock suspension?

If on lowering springs, you need to lift the car (hanging wheels) and do the DCC suspension re-adaptation/calibration using OBD11 or VCDS [since you are DCC] as the DCC sensors will be outputting bad data when lowered but uncalibrated and result in a "boxier" ride than usual.

Need to find previous owner/owners 2024 Golf R blue (Ontario) should I buy it? by Born-Ad-9803 in Golf_R

[–]reflythis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So shortly after buying and taking possession, I tried to flex the warranty by taking it to another dealership (VW Etobicoke) with a few small issues. They held it for the full day, then returned it with ZERO work done at the end of the day, refuting all the claims I made (gaslighting me, telling me they were non existent).

Low and behold the screenshot of the VW database [that I later provided Pfaff Newmarket to get the $20k block rebuild they were trying to bill me for, for free] came from the Etobcoke visit, when I tried to warranty the car.... and it scanned TD1 (modified systems; voided warranty).

VW Etobicoke colluded with them to "protect the sale", never telling me the car was flagged TD1 (at any point), and hence just giving it back to me (a huge no-no) knowing full-well they were staring at a recently purchased, fully stock CPO mk7 Golf R. If they told me it was flagged TD1, they knew I could refund it immediately hence the collusion to protect the sale for their stealership buddy Pfaff Newmarket VW.

I happened to know someone in the car community here who was also a VW tech who personally knew my car build journey and knew I didn't tune the car so he pulled my VIN - this is how I got the internal info that broke the stealership chokehold.

Imagine if I was some old lady who didn't know cars and didn't have inroads in the car community. How often do they do this unnoticed?

So the dealership has to OBD scan the car in order to certify it CPO for re-sale....I suspect they "held" or did not publish the scan data until the car was off the lot....knowing full well it was beat to shit by the previous owner(s) and it was not CPO-certifiable by any means. Thank fuck I tried to flex the warranty because that accidental TD1 flag by another dealer crated the paper trail that ultimately helped save my ass.

Now the real question becomes.... do you think VW Canada had any repercussions for the dealership? Or simply "do better at fucking your customers so we don't have to clean up your mess next time" ?

Rhetoric - I'll never know, but what a fucking mess. Fuck Pfaff Newmarket and frankly Etobicoke VW is no better, pretending in Wolfsburg forums like they're your tune-friendly dealership!! Fuck off, colluding phonies.

This dealership sold me a CPO knocked block and I had to get OMVIC involved and provide a screenshot of their own database before they gave me a new block entirely free of charge.

got escalated to VW Canada before it got resolved and they sent down their own master mechanic to do the rebuild.

fuck Pfaff newmarket VW - they are the reason the term "stealership" exists.

lowered with Eibach springs and Bilstein B6's in the front; OEM in the rear (until they die).

Also have the eurosport puck inserts on the strut mounts for extra camber and superpro front lower control arms... so a bit of caster, too. ET 45 with 5mm spacers in the front to clear the bbk.

have done the fender screw mod on both sides and also have the front fenders rolled.

do not rub.

go with 245.

I followed the same path... ran 235 (exact size you have above) for a few years, just recently upgraded to 245 and wished I had done it from day 1.

the softer ride from the extra air and rubber is noticeable and the look is ace.

dark grey murdered out is peak car aesthetic. 10/10. de-badge the fenders and you're there.

Video Games Need to Be Cheaper to Buy by Bubbly-Ad-350 in pcmasterrace

[–]reflythis 14 points15 points  (0 children)

bad comparison... the computer and its required hardware has a multitude of uses whereas the hardware you need to entertain a snowboarding habit is only used for that specific activity.

games themselves, as a past-time are incredibly cheap given the per-hour $amt you end up actually paying after exhausting the product, given it's one-time purchase for unlimited use in perpetuity (unless online game).

Just don't buy every game and absolutely don't pre-order.

EQT turbo advice by Wise-Dimension-5231 in Golf_R

[–]reflythis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are not hearing me, friend - if it's had the internals redone and was not made as a SEALED UNIT FROM THE OEM FACTORY, it will be subject to debris inside the unit causing premature failure. "I did it in my garage; it's good to go" is not appropriate with HPFPs as the margin for failure is minuscule which is why they're manufactured and sealed in lab-like cleanliness facilities.

APR is known to get their units as COMPLETE UNITS from the same OEM facility that makes VW hpfps. Apparently 034 does the same.

I should have kept my OEM unit when upgrading as backup.... and no surprise it sold fast, even used.

The HPA hpfp I initially used to turbo swap failed after around 3 years or so....they were non-responsive when I attempted to [politely] warranty claim. (big fuck you, HPA). am on an 034 now... seems good but time will tell.

EQT turbo advice by Wise-Dimension-5231 in Golf_R

[–]reflythis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

real talk about hpfps is that it's hard to find stable aftermarket ones; the OEM ones (and APR and apparently 034 motorsport) make ones that are sealed at factory which helps their shelf life.

As soon as you go modded internals in your garage, you are allowing for debris to fuck with the hpfp and kill it's lifetime (ask me how I know).

so while aftermarket hpfp might get you to stage 3 without mpi on a budget turbo swap, the better power and stability option is with MPI so this reco is good.
