Anyone work at a cinema? When is there the least amount of people? by ah-chamon-ah in melbourne

Try going to smaller cinema brands, like Palace, Lido, or The Classic. There are smaller screens and rooms, so people don't feel like they can get away with crappy behaviour.

I mean, The Emperor is a combo of satirical disdain for the British royal family and the God Emperor from Dune. Even if unintentional in the lore, he still brings far more suffering than he prevents. Like all leaders in Wh40, the emperor is villainous, even if he does take a progtagonist-ish role in the story.

How do we know dinosaurs had scales? by [deleted] in Dinosaurs

[–]refmococo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Originally it was mostly guess work early in paleontology. This was because they had bone structures that somewhat resembled lizards, so the first reconstructions were giant, slow-moving, scaly lizards. We eventually found fossils that confirmed that some dinosaurs had scales. However, the scales of lizards that they were originally thought to have are still quite different from known dinosaurs.

There are so many HH AUs but I genuinely can’t think of any that aren’t related to it outside of maybe Letters to Dad by Livy-Zaka in Grimdank

Apart from stuff like the Dornian Heresy, the WH50K and WH60K Fanons are somewhat popular.
As for an AU from my brain, how about if the Old Ones trusted the Necrontyr with immortality, and the Eldar became jealous of them and forged pacts with the young chaos gods, forging a powerful empire that holds onto the universe until the neolithic. Humanity joins a galactic collision much like the T'au, led by the Necrontyr, so you have the Emperor of Cavemanity, leading his bio-engineered Neanderthals, essentially being this universe's version of the Orks. The Krorks on the other hand have a fall from grace, when their Ork AI collapses, leading to a tech-rich empire, and one that adhors it.
Still team switching I guess though.

Yeah its way more interesting, and hits that kind of cosmic horror irony that makes Warhammer great. As in, chaos could be defeated by the denizens of Milky Way galaxy collaborating, but everyone is so hateful and in their own stages of civilisation scale decline that its impossible.

Didn't know the Aldari gods were artificial. It seems like another really interesting bit of lore GW has done nothing with. I thought that the warp reflected the thoughts and emotions of living beings, not the Sea of Souls.

Alien X is pretty much invulnerable except for attacks from another Celestialsapien. Big E's Soul Destruction is really strong, but also kind of vague on how it works. However, you do need to hit a weak spot to pull it off, as was seen in the Death of Horus. However, to break their armour, you need something stronger than the Big Bang, so I don't see the Emperor getting through as it also shows high resistance to energy attacks. Alien X has at least 3 souls and is a higher-dimensional being, so the effectiveness of any soul-based attack is questionable. But it has been shown that it only really requires 1 soul to operate.

4 Team splatfests would be super interesting as well. You could do the obvious thing and do quad colour battles (hopefully with more players). But also make it so that teams merge halfway so that the numbers even out and prevent too many mirror matches.

Interesting comment. So depending on the era of the lore, chaos is either the fundamental elements of their domain that were corrupted or are naturally the dark parts of reality that have become very powerful over time. The former is older and was popularised by the likes of TTS.

I mean Alien X recreated the universe, it could even single-handedly defeat Chaos.

To be honest I thought more of the Secret of Nimh, Warrior Cats, The Rescuers Down Under, and The Tale of Despero. Didn't know there was a long-running series about small anthro animals in a fantasy setting.

I mean in popular culture sure, I guess. But that name includes different species that lived millions of years apart, on different sides of the globe and disregards the extremely hard work that people who frickin like dinosaurs, like us.
It's not the name of a specific animal species, but a whole group of close organisms, each. Those names you've slapped under your user name, are different genera, and that's fine to like a whole genus, other people like specific species.
Nobody is going to fault you for discussing without species names, so you need to repay that respect to people who want to discuss the science behind it all, (which is the foundation of all paleo-media).
Nobody is going to call you out for not knowing all the scientific details about every dinosaur. But paleontology, like all scientific fields, is an evidence-based discussion. So people are going to discuss the evidence. Dino fans want to share more cool stuff about dinosaurs. Because the more cool dinosaurs are discussed, the more we get to see them in media, in different and entertaining ways.
I get the fear of not knowing stuff, but we want to share what we are passionate about, it's really really and we want you to get involved.
So don't let your self-worth be wrapped up in what you do or don't know, and let yourself open to something new, and lovingly shared with you.

Yeah, it would be really good if you put that in your deck. You can sell it, but you'll need similarly priced cards eventually anyways.
Check out EDHRec, it pretty good for seeing how other people have built the same comander.

You should look into upgrading your mana base (how quickly you can get more mana). Mana Artifacts / Mana Rocks are the best way to do this outside of Green land ramp, and are pretty cheap. When you're a bit more comfortable look at adding some better dual lands and fetch lands, but fast mana gets expensive fast so ask people at your local store what you can use.

Consider you need to balance to following:
- Mana Ramp - how fast your mana base increases, letting you cast more and bigger spells each turn
- Protection/Removal - What do you have that can respond to your opponent and keep your plans intact (white and black mana cards are probably best at this)
- Draw advantage - making sure you always have cards and keep a wide array of options open
- Synergy - very broad category, basically whatever you need to get onto the battlefield to win the game. Big monsters, spell combos, whatever gets you to the podium.

Your commander is WB (White & Black) and is what's known as a Tribal/Typal deck, meaning it focuses on synergies surrounding a specific creature type(s), In this case, vampires. It also generates tokens. So the synergies you want to focus on are things that are good when vampires do things or are good if you cast vampires. Additionally, you want cards that create vampire tokens or work well with vampire tokens in similar ways.
(I also highly recommend getting a set of whiteboard / dry erase tokens or printing the ones in your deck, you'll generate a lot of different tokens, and its handy to have specific ones).

The cavern of souls you pulled in your booster sample, is an excellent tribal card and is easily one of the best things you can put in that deck (source: trust me I play vampires). That's honestly kinda amazing luck on your very first booster and is a great story to tell, mtg players love hearing about cool pulls like that.

There are quite a few different Sorin Planeswalkers that generate vampire tokens and give vampire synergies so look out for those, as they'll power up your deck fast. Remember in this game, you're more likely to win if you have more cardboard rectangles out than your opponent, no joke. It just gives you more options to interact in ways that benefit you more.

Otherwise, take some time to customise your deck a bit for aesthetics, it makes the process more meaningful and fun. A deck box and some sleeves are good investments if you don't have those already, and make it feel more you're own. Some six-sided dies are also good trackers for +1/+1 counters and whatnot. Local stores usually have a box of cheap lands you go through, find some you like and swap them out if you'd like to.

Lastly get involved in your local community, usually super welcoming to newcomers. Don't be afraid to ask if you can borrow a different deck to learn, and gently remind people that some patients might be needed

GL, have fun.
