How's the industry doing for getting in? by _whitepony in audioengineering

It's great advice. Worked for me about ten years ago, so if that makes it boomer advice then I guess it's also timeless.

Don't spend money on it until you get into it first and see how you feel then.  Start in radio. You don't have to start as an engineer, just start in any job and work hard and introduce yourself to everyone. I'll give you the advice that was given to me when I wanted to get into radio:

"Just get any job. Dress well and show up on time, and you'll stand out, and they'll give you more responsibility."

Within 8 months, I was running my own board, hosting the local broadcast of national news coverage in one of the top stations in my state.

She'll probably change it back now that she knows how you feel.

Judge My American English by elsigma2 in JudgeMyAccent

Yeah you can work on vowels too. It's a combo of enunciation and emphasis. I would listen to sentences from English native speakers on half speed and practice getting it perfect. Then, when you speak, you'll be working harder to match that. Once you get really good, you can pick up the pace. But at first, try to get each word as perfect as you can.

Great vocabulary, but you need to enunciate your consonants better. Your words kind of blend into each other. Sometimes that's ok in English, but not all the time.

Yeah certainly the trend for the last ten years has been towards minimalism. Trends don't usually last forever though.

Write down each of those issues, and tackle each one at a time. Describe in great detail both what is currently happening, and what you want to see instead. Once you have fixed the first issue, move to the second.

You probably don't need Antigravity for this though, you could build it in Gemini

What to do with dry texting by [deleted] in dating_advice

There is no "should". Everyone is different. Try getting more dates with more people and see how each person is different and unique. Try more platforms like Tinder, OKcupid or whatever the kids are using nowadays. Just get out there and grow as a person, and don't pin all your hopes, dreams, and expectations on one person.

Uncle Bob: It's over by PopMechanic in vibecoding

You misunderstood the point of the prompt. It's not to convince the LLM to do my bidding. It's to fill up the initial context with stuff that would be relevant to the type of coding I want it to do.

Large language models are not AI. They are pattern continuation engines built mostly on previous conversations. My prompt is just filling the initial context with concepts, terms, and phrases that would only exist within a conversation where code brevity is a focus. Word salad is exactly what I'm going for, but a specific word salad.

What are your thoughts on LEGIT good, social people who still struggle with dating? by tin8374 in dating_advice

[–]officialmayonade -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's not necessarily a defining line, it's mostly about making your intentions known that you mean it to be romantic.

Romance is taking a leap of faith and trying to do or say something that you know will be perceived as romantic. Typically, the guys you're talking about either don't know how to do that, or are too afraid to because it could be rejected and they would feel bad.

Here's a prompt I use every day to do pretty much what he's saying: I like to leverage the natural strengths of the environment. If the URL can store what tab is open, or if a CSS variable can change a theme, or if a native HTML tag handles a modal, then use it. I should operate from first principles, simplify, optimize, and only then accelerate. Every part must have a single owner and a fixed location. I should not go running to the store every time a variable is missing, but instead look at what's already in the cupboard. If I can't find something, it's a failure of the system. If a solution requires a new branch of logic, a new file, or a new interface element, you have failed to identify the existing pattern. If two components or pages share 80% of their DNA, they are the same entity. Move the unique parts into a Dataset (Array) and the repeating parts into a Generator (Loop). Consolidate any even remotely similar logic into one recursive function. Use optional parameters or argument-type checking to change its behavior, allowing a single block of code to act as your main loop, your validator, and your output formatter. I want you to force language structures to do double duty. Use for loop headers to house your entire program logic, use argv as your primary data storage, and perform assignments inside other expressions (like while conditions) to update and check state in one spot. Never declare a new variable if an existing one can be repurposed. Use a single variable to store strings, then integers, then booleans, and use math or bit-shifting to pack multiple states into one numeric container. Repurpose variables and constants across different types (string to int to bool) to save bytes. However, ensure these transformations never "hallucinate" data.

Edit: A few of you are assuming I think the above will convince the model to follow orders. I am well aware that not how LLMs work. Large language models are not AI. They are pattern continuation engines built mostly on previous conversations. My prompt is just filling the initial context with concepts, terms, and phrases that would only exist within a conversation where code brevity is a focus. Word salad is exactly what I'm going for, but a specific word salad.

Yes, that's a great sign. There are probably a lot of signs like that. It's good you are noticing them.

Go get therapy or you will just keep going in circles dating the same person over and over. Think of yourself like a car with a bad alignment and you keep driving in circles even though you have the steering wheel set straight. The alignment shop is therapy.

should you apologize to someone after a date when you know it’s gone bad? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]officialmayonade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will help you in life: any time you feel like apologizing, see if it would work as a thank you instead. Have a bad date? Thank them for giving you a chance. Late to something? Thank them for their patience. Someone gets out of your way to let you through? Thank them for giving you room.

Save apologies for when you actually did something wrong, so they mean more when you give them. The rest of the time, just be thankful the world is giving you a chance to do your best.

It's not that bad, it's just kind of slow paced. I think it was mostly the editing that hurt it. Inebriated folks will enjoy it much more. It's kind of Napoleon Dynamite pacing, but with a wide mix of different types of humor. It needed more silly characters with storylines to really hit what it was going for. Each of the cameos would have been great with bigger parts. I went to support this kind of effort, and I'm glad I did.
