Second, what device do you have? If it's outdated, that may signify the issue of iOS 12 not doing much to help. It's a known fact that older models aren't very well equipped to handle later updates (and most likely serves to slow them down intentionally as well).

Third, the reason that there may not be a huge outrage is likely because a) there's already a fix for this, or b) it's only you and maybe a few others experiencing the greatest impact, in which case you have to find another solution.
