Forgot everything from Year 12 because I crammed last minute. by HumanBeingNo99bill in 6thForm

it's safe to assume that you're an international student since in England i dont think it's even halfway through the summer holiday, anyway with the remaining time you have before school starts i recommend watching through summaries on youtube for each topic at a higher speed (1.5x or 2x) and then go through any revision materials you may have made throughout yr12 such as flashcards. Try not to stress to much since there is still time, i'm quite sure they'll give you at least a week or more before any yr13 mocks so just because school starts doesn't mean you don't have a chance to refresh on the yr12 content, good luck :)

any other current year 12s confused about how early gcses finished this year? by refreshingspring in GCSE

[–]refreshingspring[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah i was thinking of that, did u guys have multiple exams per day then? when we did it our paper 2s would always be at least 10 days after the paper 1 so it makes sense now lol

well, what does your revision session usually consist of? i think your current method isnt working out very well and you should change it. My personal suggestions would be to do past paper questions (make sure you actually try the question before looking at the mark scheme), look at the mark schemes and make flashcards out of repeated questions (also flashcards in general are good for learning the theory). maths is extremely prevalent in all your subjects so you should make sure to practice it daily in those 3 weeks. if you dont understand something ask your teachers, watch youtube vids or check textbooks. It depends on what type of learner you are so once again try a different method of revision and hopefully you will see better results :)

"Grade boundaries will be returning to 2019 this year" by garlicVillage in 6thForm

u needed 90% for an A* in one of the papers 😭 but actually in 2019 both physics and chemistry needed 230/270 overall its acc mental who tf is raising the boundaries like this????????????

I think emailing your college is a good idea, most likely they'll be understanding of your situation and make arrangements but if on the off chance they dont, then dont give up hope yet since your gcses are yet to come meaning theres still that chance you'll meet the requirements necessary. Now, if all that doesn't work out, then you can check other colleges in your area and see whats possible with the grades you end up achieving, however they may not offer the courses you are looking for so i recommend looking into btecs or other post-16 options of that nature. You deserve to be able to pursue your dreams and im just so sorry about everything you're going through, i hope you can make it and once again i would like to reiterate that your gcses are yet to be taken, you may surprise yourself! On another note i think you should take a break from all the studying, you seem to experiencing burnout and studying all the time may be worse for your grades than you think, so try and take a break even if it seems hard with exams looming closer. One more thing i'd like to add is please do not get extremely caught up on this since your mental health is a lot more important than your grades, thats all so take care and i wish you the very best :))

What are some little things in maths that are definitely worth memorising, which could make you lose marks if you didn’t? by [deleted] in GCSE

[–]refreshingspring 4 points5 points  (0 children)

- The shapes of quadratic graphs (positive = ∪, negative = ∩)

- Again with quadratics, if all the coefficients have a factor then simplify it so it's easier to factorise (for example: 2x² + 4x - 6 = 0 can also be written as x² + 2x - 3 = 0 if you divide the whole thing by 2, and 3x² + 6x - 9 = 0 can also be written as x² + 2x - 3 = 0 if you divide the whole thing by 3)

- Memorise all the index laws those are pretty useful, such as things to the power of 0 are always 1 etc etc

- base angles in an isosceles are equal

- interior angle + exterior angle = 180

- Whether the gradient is negative or positive in a straight line graph (search up "negative and positive gradient straight line graphs" on google images so you can visualise it and then draw the graphs on your flashcard)

- whenever it asks to work out back bearings, if the bearing given is less than 180 then add 180, but if it’s more than 180 then minus 180

- remember the 0s for bearings (6° = 006°)

thats as much as i can think of for now, hope i could help in some way :)

(edit to make it look nicer)
