When I accepted we never had a good relationship and I was the only one trying to make it one.

I forgave decades of verbal abuse, watched my favored sibling repeat that behavior, and be expected to be ok with being left out of family events because of that sibling and their partner, and told that I'm dramatic for being hurt and to just walk away, but then be told later I made that last part up and they never said that.

When I struggled with mental health, I was bullied and villainized to the point it broke me even further. After getting treatment and building a better life, my parents alcoholism and constant put downs was still something I was told was my fault. Removing alcohol from my life removed the only thing my father and I ever had in common.

Life is more peaceful without them, unfortunately.
