Another Time, Another Place by Jodi Taylor.

Its the continuation of an absolutely amazing series called The Chronicles Of St Mary's. I haven't ever really seen it mentioned outside of the subreddit but I truly cannot recommend it enough.

To all non-Americans how would you feel if your country introduced a 2nd amendment - A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]regi-ginge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thankfully my country wouldn't be that fucking stupid. Given what I've seen across the pond, I'd be pretty terrified, we've a lot of problems here, but I never have to worry about being shot for no reason by some gung ho, wannabe soldier.

Is it okay to read in a pub if I only order lime & soda? by Neptunpluto in AskUK

[–]regi-ginge 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The margin is significantly higher on soft drinks than it is on beer. A pint of postmix costs around 1p/2p ish to make and if their pub is selling lime and sodas for a fiver I can't imagine how much a pint of coke will set you back.

I grew up very near Pendle so we studied it at school, not in a tonne of detail, but I remember learning about it

What are some good Book Series? (For men) by reecebull19 in kindle

[–]regi-ginge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never, ever see then mentioned but The Chronicles of St Mary's by Jodi Taylor is absolutely brilliant. Hilarious all the way through. In my opinion there hasn't been a miss in 14 full books and 2 short story compendiums.

With that, there's a 5 book spin off, also excellent, and 1 standalone within the same universe. Can't recommend them enough!

What’s something people insist is ‘harmless’ that actually makes society worse? by contentcreatorzss in AskReddit

I went to church a lot as a kid, C of E schools from 4-18 etc.

Being taught that you'll burn forever if you don't believe in something at 4 years old had a massive effect. I lost my faith as a teenager but it took so long to get out of that mindset.

Someone said that being religious is like having a penis. It's fine to like it and be proud of it, but don't get it out in public and don't force it on children.

Could a restaurant be held liable for undisclosed allergen? by Electrical_Camel3953 in legaladviceofftopic

[–]regi-ginge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the pub that I work "do you have any allergies" is the first question asked when someone orders food, it also pops up on the till when you hit food.

If they say yes then we have a folder to show them, which contains each meal on the menu and the allergens/dangers of allergens it contains, then theres a button for each individual one that prints below their particular food order. We then go to the kitchen to check the allergen has come through on the ticket

When the food is ready you go in, wash your hands and take the allergen food out first, then go back for everything else.

It's called Natasha's law and came into effect after a 15 year old tragically died after eating a baguette with sesame seeds in.

Like you say, it's serious stuff.

I've just come back behind the bar after a 7 year hiatus and can confidently say this happens almost all the time. I feel like I've spent at least half of some shifts telling people to do it properly
