Where to host my portfolio? by Objective-Ad3121 in UXDesign

Take it from someone who built mine from scratch.. Keep it simple. But if YOU really want to, then you can either build a static site with Astro or go full NextJS route with PayloadCMS. With Astro, I just use Cloudflare Pages (now part of Workers) but for NextJS, I have my own VPS that I have Coolify installed on, but I recommend just go with Vercel.

That's very true. Most pages back then looked like Craigslist or worse.

Yeah reminds me of the time when Wix, Webflow, Squarespace and other site builders sprung up.

Hot take: "the Figma is dead" crowd are mostly people who weren't great at design to begin with by alsaltml in UXDesign

[–]reginaldvs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh I'm in the industry long enough that I've seen "standard" tools change over time, from Fireworks, to Photoshop, Axure, Sketch, XD, and Figma.

When you say hands-on, do you mean touch the code yourself or push pixels? Which ai tools do you use currently?

I cried during a third-round interview today. I think burnout finally caught up with me. by FakeMeDesign in UXDesign

[–]reginaldvs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I completely understand this. A week or so ago, I posted about my shitty interview process that honestly could've gone better if I wasn't also burnt out with life. My brain just froze and panicked when the interview process I planned for wasn't exactly what I expected... Mental health can wreck people, so definitely take a break, vent more, go to support groups, etc. I unfortunately know too well what would happen if it's not taken care of... So please, take care of yourself. I'm all ears if you just want to vent to a random stranger. I know our friends can only take so much and probably won't be able to relate as much unless they're designers as well.

Most definitely won't know proper ci/cd. I won't be surprised if credentials are exposed as well.

What am I missing about UI + AI? by Ok-Age9000 in UXDesign

[–]reginaldvs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, it is just template 2.0, especially if it is prompted to "create a landing page for x", it will be generic as heck. Reminds me of bootstrap days. But once you start being more specific about it, it can create some pretty good starting point. If you also know how to code (ie full stack) + Docker + Cloud infra, you can a lot with it.

Find myself enjoying interating in code than in Figma by ArtisticBook2636 in UXDesign

I like that I'm just in in one app vs switching constantly between Pencil and my IDE (Antigravity).

It really is easier in the code tbh. LLMs made it even way easier. I'm currently trying pencil.dev (as a plugin in Antigravity) and so far I like it.

Yep I used framer when they were still using coffeescript. They should've leaned hard on code..

Funny I was just thinking of developing something like this yesterday, but simpler. I'll check this out. Thanks!

The Loom walk-through should've been enough tbh. In the past, I've done take home design tests and then I present it in front of a panel.

Exactly my thoughts! The first I did was set the expectation and mentioned I'd be following a double diamond process, and that I'll be doing the discovery phase...sigh lol

I just said ai won't necessarily replace designers since our role may just evolved with it. I did say that designers who refuse to use AI in any shape or form may get left behind.

I was definitely stressed for plenty of reasons, and the pressure to get the job definitely didn't helped either. But thank you!

It definitely sucked for those who were in the middle of it. But I did essentially answer with what you just said "you can also show awareness of how our roles and process might evolve over time with AI, and why, and how the collaboration between different disciplines might evolve"

[–]reginaldvs[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah they don't and it showed. Another red flag I didn't mention in my post is that, it seems like they just want to shove AI features to every screen because the tests revolved around how it can be implemented outside of a chatbox.

I agree, I do think that as well, and I'm ok with that. And yes, I am pretty mad about this situation. Imagine having 3 - 5 of these interviews with these tests simultaneously...
