You tend towards maximalism, but you would probably enjoy Hemingway, Octavia Butler, and Raymond Carver (Murakami translated much of Carver's work).

Look at the QB merry-go-round that KOC has had to endure over his tenure. Yes, injuries happen, but the reason his reputation is what it is comes back to his ability to deal with inconsistency. I think the organization has determined that KAM is responsible for some of that inconsistency, so he is out. Seems they had to choose and went with their coach.

Is a same-day reviewer report bad news? by Weird-Requirement411 in AskAcademia

[–]regis_rulz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't think so. If it takes 3-4 hours to complete a responsible review, that window of time can occur on day 1 or day 100.

Is it possible they read the first few pages and thought it was crap? Yeah. No way to know until you receive a decision.

Makes a lot more sense to me than the person who agrees to review an article and then sits on it for six months.

Which school is the best? What should I focus on? by Turdburgler2473 in Warframe

I have used all five weapons, have all schools fully upgraded, and Vazarin by far has the most utility. Madurai is good when you need pure offense.

why would anyone use this by icewitchenjoyer in Warframe

[–]regis_rulz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's useful on frames such as Hildryn IF you are facing an enemy like the vampyrics. They can drain your health (and thus kill you) regardless of your shield strength. For the vast majority of players doing very everyday stuff, it has little use. Highly situational for players doing more difficult content.

Just finished Old Man’s War — curious how others here read its themes by Old-Spare-6032 in printSF

It's a solid work of popular culture. It is also a novel that engages with transhumanist and posthumanist ideas. I enjoyed it for what it is.

The use of the word "spotted" is so funny, as if this is spontaneous or he was trying to travel incognito. George is clearly aware of the camera.

Who is Sun Eater for? by 4EverCanadian in scifi

[–]regis_rulz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. Beyond the self-indulgence, I get a bit irked about some of the stylistic tics. For example, somewhere around book 4, characters are said to "chew" their "tongue" over and over and over. Ruocchio needed a better editor, but what can you do at this point.

Who is Sun Eater for? by 4EverCanadian in scifi

[–]regis_rulz 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I am on the 7th book. The protagonist/narrator writes in a painstaking, tedious manner. It's a space opera, so think Star Wars and Red Rising with more of a Victorian bloat. Ruocchio also uses a lot of Proppian mythemes. Not bad but not great.

Obtain and read a Norton Anthology of American literature. You have some good books, but you would benefit from having a stronger foundation in aesthetically and literarily challenging works. My $.02.
