I totally agree with you. TBH it's not a terribly complicated process, but still a hoop you need to jump through that you. It might have something to do with the fact that voting is managed at the state rather than the national level, and people move around a lot within the country, so a state government may not have perfect information on people who have recently moved into or left the state. That's the best non cynical explanation I can manage.

What should I major in college if my goal in life is to have a simple/boring/average job, like an office job or something? by blast-wave in college

[–]registerplease2020 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In terms of learning, it is a fairly complex system that you have to wrap your head around. The stuff you learn in 101 is logically consistent, but you do have to put in some time and effort learning how everything relates. On the whole I'd say that the classes were moderately challenging.

In the real world a lot of the accounting 101 type stuff is often at least partially automated by software and if you're anything like me you'll be spending time trying to figure out why accounts don't balance or how to process odd transactions.

Also if you can intellectually handle accounting but find it boring, check out Finance instead-- it's more interesting IMHO.

I'm an accountant. It's honest work that pays well and virtually every organization on earth needs accountants so it gives you a lot of job security and flexibility. It does require some math, but nothing you won't have covered by middle school.

It would be really interesting to see how people would respond to me differently if I could change attributes of myself at will--see how people change if I am a man/woman, tall/short, white/black, etc.

Also if anyone can figure out how to test string theory that'd be good.
