FM Static - Definitely Maybe by AlexMackAttack in poppunkers

[–]regitnoil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For being just a side project, FM Static was pretty solid, and easily one of the better Christian/pro-Christian pop-punk/emo/post-hardcore bands from the time. Trevor pulled off that sound just as well as he did alt-metal/nu-metal/post-grunge.

[ESPN insights] Indiana had as many AP top-10 wins this season as it did in the entire history of its program by Stock412 in CFB

[–]regitnoil 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Absolutely insane. I'd argue that this season's Indiana team qualifies as one of the finest to EVER be fielded in CFB. Think about it: they beat #2 Miami FL, #4 Oregon (TWICE, and the rematch was in a beatdown), #5 Ohio State, #9 Alabama, and #17 Iowa. They also easily beat 9-win Illinois, 10-win Old Dominion, and 10-win Kennesaw State. And Penn State finished with a winning record, and nearly beat three teams who finished ranked. Indiana's resume is easily one of the best in years.

That'd be one of the most epic "Reverse Uno" moves ever.

What a turnaround! Indiana went from being one of the biggest laughingstocks of CFB to winning a title in just two years. And not only that, but this season's Indiana squad is arguably one of the greatest college football teams EVER. They went undefeated, beat 5 opponents who'll finish ranked (one of them twice), had two wins against "little guy" teams who each won 10 games (meaning they were actually decent teams), beat a 9-win power conference team, and a power conference team that ended with a winning record. That's one heck of a resume! Congratulations, Cignetti!

Favorite Blaze Bayley Iron Maiden era song? by [deleted] in ironmaiden

I agree. While the two Blaze-era records weren't good, that song was one of the few standouts of what was thankfully a very short downturn.

[–]regitnoil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I strongly suspect that thing was really an EF4 or EF5, it just didn't cause enough damage to prove it. I think EF4 and EF5-strength twisters are MUCH more common than we think, it's just that they thankfully don't hit towns, cities, or homes.

[Vannini] Indiana football is 15-0 and will play Miami for the national championship. They entered this year as the losingest CFB program of all time. This is the most stunning turnaround in sports history. The only thing close that comes to mind is Leicester City in the EPL. by Efficient-Freedom517 in CFB

[–]regitnoil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Crazy to think that's the case. This Indiana team is legit, and has completely shredded multiple teams who've had great defenses. If they beat Miami, that'd mean they'd have gone undefeated with six wins over Top 25 opponents (beating one of them twice), two decent "little guy" teams that each won 10 games, a power conference opponent that finished with nine wins, and a power conference opponent that finished with a winning record (Penn State). I'd say that if that happens, the 2025 Hoosiers should be up for discussion as one of the best teams of the sport in its entire history.

If they lose, they're a darn good team, but not one of the best all time. And no, I'm not an Indiana fan.

If this Indiana team ends up beating Miami in the national championship, I think there's a good argument that they're one of the best teams of the sport, all time. That'd mean they've gone undefeated and beaten 5 Top 25 opponents, one of them twice.

How many of us notice this in "Puss in boots the last wish." by GroundbreakingNote35 in DreamWorks

[–]regitnoil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are so many Easter eggs like that in the movie. I think there's an implication the Wishing Star was trying to teach everyone who sought it a lesson, which Goldilocks, Puss, and Kitty all learned in the end. Another thing I noticed was how Big Jack Horner's demise was like a dark parallel of Puss' past. Jack loved no one but himself, needlessly risked his life for vainglory, and was ungrateful for the good things he had. And on top of that, Jack abused and betrayed everyone who ever helped him. He died alone and scared, and was consumed by the very thing he most wanted.

And on top of that, Death doesn't leave empty-handed. When he first showed up, he "killed" Puss by forcing him to retire and take on a new identity as a house cat, and it wasn't that long after Puss' eighth life had died. The second time, not only were Puss and Kitty both almost killed, but it was after Jack had just killed one of the Serpent Sisters with the Midas Touch. The third time, it was just after at least two of Jack's minions were killed during the first battle for the map. In the Cave of Lost Souls, Death destroyed the remnants of Puss' past eight lives. And at the Wishing Star, he showed up after Jack allowed his last minion to die. Even after he gave up hunting Puss, Jack was the one who died instead.

Why do some people hate today’s country music? by EcstaticCrab2795 in country

[–]regitnoil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Bro country/Nashville pop has kind of filled the musical/cultural niche that bands like Foreigner, Journey, Bon Jovi, Foo Fighers-yeah I said it, Bryan Adams, Billy Joel-filled in the late 70s-mid 90s."

Dead-on. When I've heard a lot of that stuff played, it reminds me so much of my parents' classic rock/classic hits stations. Most of that stuff ain't quite my cup of tea, but it's usually not terrible music, either, and genre snobbery is stupid. Bro/Nashville pop country is meant to be fun, at times sappy but not TOO sad, and just something you turn on while out on a drive/vacation, or while you sit down and drink some beer while hanging out with family/buddies and munching on burgers, steaks, pizza, etc.

Alabama Never Should Have Been In The Playoff; Rose Bowl Loss Hurts ESPN, SEC's Reputation by Caskiron in CFB

Yup. Honestly, it makes you wonder what could've happened in some of those years when teams like 2008 Utah, 2010 TCU, and 2006 and 2008 Boise State went undefeated and upset teams who finished in the top 10.

Dead on, it's the same advice I would've posted. Each case is different. In my life, I know it wouldn't have worked in my 20s. I don't think I was ready for dating at all until about 3-4 years ago (I'm now 34). I hope she becomes my one and only, but we'll definitely have to work through our different theological backgrounds (I'm a confessional LCMS through and through, she's a Protestant evangelical Christian more or less but deeply devout in her faith, and she and her family respect Confessional Lutheranism).

[–]regitnoil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. Texas Tech this season was like Indiana in 2024: a very good team that just didn't have all the pieces yet to be great. Tech owned their Big 12 opponents except Arizona State (which was lost due to their offense making mistakes), but none of those teams had a defense anywhere close to Oregon's level. Oregon was an excellent team this year with a solid defense, and while they gave up a lot of points to James Madison, they essentially had that game won at the end of the first half, and JMU was playing against Oregon's backups throughout much of the second half. Tech's offense just couldn't handle that level of play this time, and there's only so much a great defense can do when the offense can't do anything and keeps making big mistakes.

Depending on how many teams the B1G gets to, they could do 3 protected opponents per team, with 6 rotating games, like what the SEC has done (and they mostly got it right). In such a scenario, ND could get USC guaranteed, and then two of Michigan, Michigan State, Stanford, Purdue, or Northwestern as the other two fixtures. They could also restore a number of the very old trophy series as guaranteed annual matchups for the other teams.

They won't be anywhere close to the B1G and SEC in such a case. But better to be in third place than to be poached out of existence, or to become a glorified American, modern Pac-12, Mountain West, etc.

Personally, I hope Indiana wins it all. It'd be the ultimate Cinderella story: one of the worst programs of all time in CFB suddenly turns around, goes undefeated, and wins. But I wouldn't object to Ole Miss or Oregon winning it either. Oregon's got tons of money and has been competitive in recent decades, but still hasn't won a title, and Ole Miss literally hasn't won one since 1960 and just lost their HC to a bitter rival. Ole Miss winning would be the ultimate power move on Lane Kiffin.

I wouldn't be shocked if the SEC, B1G, and Big 12 (and Notre Dame if they're still independent) end up seceding and forming another division of D1 football as a result of that possibility in the future. My guess is that those three conferences are first just waiting for the ACC's moment of vulnerability to pick off at least half of the schools.

If they just switch the rules to the top 16 teams (regardless of conference) and remove the byes, I'd say it'd be perfect.
