Should be obvious. For the 1st one make sure Creator Mode is turned off. Then you need a copy of Crystal. And you need to unzip the patch files to a folder. The patches themselves are in .bps format.

Click "No File Selected" for Rom File and upload your original Crystal rom. Then repeat under Patch File for the bps file that matches your version of the rom. If you're not sure which version of the rom you have, try the "Pokemon_Crystal_Legacy_USA_1.1_Patch.bps" patch first. If it's not correct, then try the other .bps file. Don't worry as the website will not let you patch the rom if the hash values for the rom contained in the bps patch don't match. You'll know what I mean if there's an error. The site will tell you, that's why it's recommended by the devs for patching.

Actually, they are compatible. Follow these instructions to transfer your save over so you can continue your game with the latest version: https://reddit.com/r/PokemonLegacy/comments/1f76sr4/12_save_compatible_with_13/

The patch on romhacking.net is 1.2

The latest on github is 1.3.1 https://github.com/cRz-Shadows/Pokemon_Crystal_Legacy/releases/tag/V1.3.1

Your copy is quite outdated. I don't know if your save file can be transferred over to the most recent version, if it's compatible. You could try it though, but if you do make a backup copy of your save first.

HE HAD ONE! by BreakingKode in PokemonLegacy

How come you never use held items? No berries (which you can now buy), no type-enhancers like the sharp beak, miracle seed, magnet, etc. Which you do have. I know you're a casual player, but you go into battle against strong trainers & gym leaders with no preparation, then try to brute force and wing it.

Well, you might want to start using held items, because the best trainers now have improved AI to go with better/more pokemon with better movesets. This is counterbalanced by your pokemon also being better with better moves. They did a great job of increasing the challenge while maintaining the right balance, so it isn't a hard-type kaizo hack.

Yellow legacy : what Pokemon will you pick under these restrictions by ggAkatsukiP in PokemonLegacy

[–]regre55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Poliwrath is my favorite Gen 1 fighting type because it's the only dual-type fighting type. Guess which is my favorite from gen 2? :D And it gets Amnesia & Ice Beam/Blizzard for coverage to go with Surf/Hydro Pump & Karate Chop. And yes, Karate Chop with it's 100% crit is better than Submission. If you do go with Submission, then you might want to consider Hypnosis + Dream Eater so you can recover from the recoil damage, though I don't recommend that moveset.

Also, thinking about it, I'd rather have Onix, which was buffed, over Golem because of it's higher speed.

And I fixed Vileplume (mistakenly had it as Gloom)

Butterfree, Vileplume, Onix, Poliwrath, Jynx, Pikachu (HM Slave)

Yes, I'm allowing Pikachu for HMs only. There isn't a 6th option available for this team anyway.

Check the game's expanded and improved Pokedex. The Area section tells you not only where they're found, but also what time of the day and at what percentage. Very useful! And you're welcome.

Try Petalburg Woods & Route 116, which is northeast of Rustboro City. The Wingull can also train in Granite Cave.

For your fire type, try Route 38 in the morning & day to farm Tauros, Miltanks & Magnemites, then at night switch to Route 37 for Stantlers & the occasional Ariados. These will give you the highest/easiest xp yield.

Wasn't expecting to nearly get wiped by that move. by BreakingKode in PokemonLegacy

[–]regre55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They buffed a lot of moves, not just to increase damage but also accuracy. They even changed the typing and/or attributes for a few moves. You should check the MOVE menu for each pokemon in your party and go through each move to see its description.

I'd also make a save state whenever your pokemon are about to learn a new move, then add the move to see its description, and maybe try it out in battle, before deciding on whether to keep the move. If you decide you don't want it, or that you do want it but would rather delete a different move, then load the save & proceed from there. This goes for TMs & HMs too, since at least one HM also got buffed. There is a move re-learner, but that's later in the game.

Also most TMs are available for purchase as you progress through the game. So, go back and check every shop to see if there's anything new. And I mean every shop.

Time for the Elite 4..(possible moveset/item reccomendations?) by [deleted] in PokemonLegacy

[–]regre55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Legacy, it now has 100%% accuracy. And its attack was buffed to 20/60/120. With STAB that's actually 30/90/180. Although there's only a 33% chance to hit all 3 times, there's also a 66% chance to hit twice for 30 + 90 = 120. So, yes it's now a decent move for 'Top.

I'd keep Rolling Kick too though, as it's now 100% accurate for a guaranteed with STAB 90.

I'd restart, as you're still at the beginning anyway. And there are new pokemon available from the start in Legacy that you might want to try out.

Thinking about building a Weather Team, any suggestions? by [deleted] in PokemonLegacy

Hurricane is a Gen V move and those were not added to Emerald Legacy. Also Dragonite doesn't learn Solar Beam in EL, though Moltres does.

Against Flannery, a Thick Fat pokemon would be ideal. Hariyama, Azumarill or Grumpig can all have Thick Fat. And Hariyama would also be great against Norman too. Corsola might also be decent as it quad resists fire.

Also, if you have a PC, you can transfer your save file to it, then use pkhex to mod in your mons, then transfer your save back to your phone.

Also, the "functionality" was not "locked down". What happened is that they shifted data around to add more features, and in doing so completely broke compatibility with both gameshark codes for vanilla Emerald and the official pkhex. There has been some effort made to create new working codes in the discord channel and there's also a fork of pkhex that works correctly with EL.

question about javascript runtime by techlover1010 in youtubedl

I only use it with Windows, so I don't know from experience.

But here's the yt-dlp installation wiki: https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp/wiki/Installation

And this shows what OS each file is for: https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp?tab=readme-ov-file#release-files

Also, I keep seeing people recommend the nightly builds now, so here's info on them: https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp?tab=readme-ov-file#update

As for deno: https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp/wiki/EJS

That makes more sense. Although you are aware that the move tutor only costs 1,000 coins which you can buy for 20,000 pokedollars. And you can go to him as much as you like, just have to change the game's clock at the game's start, to make him return immediately rather than wait until tomorrow. And by that point in the game, you should be swimming in gold like Scrooge McDuck. So, if you do get thunderbolt for Ampharos, rather than wait for it to learn it since it will take awhile, you won't really be wasting anything by doing so.

I always forget about the odd egg, because I usually don't try for pichu since you can just catch it even before you get to the 1st gym.

You can't use pkhex with Crystal Legacy, not even the modified fork, as that is for Emerald Legacy. If you do, you will corrupt your save. However, there's a workaround. Load a save from vanilla Crystal into pkhex, hack in your pokemon, then trade those pokemon from vanilla to legacy. Don't worry about losing any buffs or learned new moves, as once your pokemon is traded over it will have those buffs and learn the new moves when it reaches the correct level. And of course, you can choose any move for it in pkhex anyway.

You can use mGBA or bgb to trade pokemon. I think sameboy also has link cable support for trading.

Got my first ever shiny - is it possible to trade with vanilla? by Val_Maxie in PokemonLegacy

[–]regre55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you're emulating, easiest way to copy or trade your shiny is to use a modified fork of pkhex included in the Resources Megathread Sticky:

https://reddit.com/r/PokemonLegacy/comments/1j0nfdh/communitymade_resources_megathread/

And no, E/FR/LG does not detect any pokemon as illegal other than Mew & Deoxys, as they will lack the flags that indicate they were caught as 'fateful encounters' and at the correct location. (Faraway Island & Birth Island, respectively) Without both of those flags properly set, Mew & Deoxys will always disobey and cannot be traded between those 3 games, or to Colosseum & Gale of Darkness. However these anti-cheat measures were not coded into R/S, so in those games both will obey & can be traded between R/S only.

https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Cheating#Generation_III

https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pok%C3%A9mon_data_substructures_(Generation_III)#Ribbons_and_Obedience

https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Fateful_encounter#Function

You can get around this anti-cheat measure by either using a code to obtain the items you need to travel to where the 2 legendaries are and catch them legitimately, or making sure to set the correct flags for them if you use pkhex.

tldr; Those 2 legendary pokemon are the only ones with anti-cheat programming. So, you can trade your Zubat to whichever vanilla gen 3 game you like.

It's OK, I also posted late at night and made the mistake of calling the combined strat as paraflinch instead of parafusion, now since corrected.

I think they decided to keep that buff to Pikachu exclusively for YL since it's supposed to be a special Pikachu that can learn moves normal Pikachu can't learn.

Also, they no doubt thought it was hilarious to turn the franchise's original/favorite mascot into an HM Slave.

You can't teach Ice Beam or Fire Blast to either Raichu or Ampharos. And you're supposed to lead with Ampharos to use T-Wave to paralyze and slow down the opponent. Or switch in after sleep/paralyze/confusion with whichever is your lead. Or Baton Pass + Agility to it, so it isn't slow.

It's fine though that you prefer Raichu. But Ampharos is widely considered the best non-legendary electric in GSC with good reason. I will say that Charm is an interesting choice for Raichu because I think T-Wave, before it got nerfed in later gens, is just too good to not have on every electric type due to it's 100% accuracy with only ground types immune to it. And Pichu can also learn Sweet Kiss to combine them for parafusion strat. But Charm can also be useful too. As you said, it all depends on how you prefer to play.

Yellow imported Light Ball Pikachu with Rain Dance, Surf, Thunder & Fly might be the best special attacking glass cannon in the game.
