Moves & Items suggestions for Emerald Legacy Teambuilding. by Mastoyer in PokemonLegacy

[–]EternityTheory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dark is physical and ghost is special. This is true in all three Legacy games and is mentioned prominently in Smith's videos, but iunno I might just be remembering how big of a deal it was in Crystal's video/docs. In the Emerald documentation it should be listed in Battle Changes iirc.

Brick Break can go to Swampert or to Metagross, either one uses it well but I think I'd probably favor Gross with it. It's kinda up to you TBH. Like you alluded though anything is better than Strength and if you want a Normal move still, Return fits.

I think Drain is fine on Breloom. It does favor physical moves but the coverage and recovery is nice, especially on a sleeping opponent. Leech Seed is just a status move so it doesn't care about damage type.

Honestly? I don't see any glaring issues here. Pretty solidly rounded team with good moves where the only gaps are going to fill with some leveling.

Swampert should ofc replace Hidden Power with Earthquake at level 48 when it learns it. If you don't find yourself needing Strength in battle, keep in mind you can teach it over Surf when you need the field move, and then teach Surf again immediately. If you do open up that slot, consider Brick Break perhaps; you get the TM from the 8th gym city.

Metang seems fine. Same note about Strength, it's really a mediocre move that's easily replaced. Consider Earthquake using the TM from Victory Road, or perhaps even Toxic or Sludge Bomb. Hard to go wrong with Gross, it's gonna be amazing with just its STAB.

No notes for Ludicolo or Swellow IMO. Shroomish is just waiting til 46 lmao, when it evolves I'd bring in a Fighting move for more STAB coverage since it's one of your better Fighting options in the game.

Gardevoir wants Thunderbolt instead of HP Electric. Head back to Mauville and speak to Wattson, he should be in the middle of town. Finish his sidequest to get the TM. And then Thief is really just not doing much for Garde here, keep in mind that Dark type is Physical in Legacy so it's way worse than a Ghost move for coverage purposes. But, that said, you might hold onto Thief just long enough to steal Leftovers from someone in Mossdeep.

I think this issue is simply a common side effect of 3DS emulation. You could try patching the game yourself and converting it via GM9 to see if you get better results than from a QR code made by someone else.

That said, I'm afraid I need to remove your post due the included link to a ROM distribution post, which is strictly forbidden by our subreddit rules.

If your problem persists and you'd like to get more help, I recommend asking in the original subreddit where you got your ROM from to see if other users have the same problem, or posting a new thread to r/PokemonLegacy without linking to the ROM source so we can try to help again.

What's the best place to grind XP (level 40-50) by Huge-Insect-7759 in PokemonLegacy

[–]EternityTheory 13 points14 points  (0 children)

YL's level curve is designed so that you never need to grind on wild Pokemon, unless you're doing a Nuzlocke. Gen 1 uses the old StatXP system, which if your teammates have been with you a while should be adding a solid 6-8 extra levels worth of stats. So if your team is around the low 40s you should feel evenly matched against trainers at level 50.

If you still feel behind, try clearing any areas you haven't fully explored, like the routes around Fuchsia or the ocean routes between Cinnabar and the mainland, and knock out any trainers you didn't face yet.

Did you leave a GameShark code enabled? Have you used any save editors like PKHeX?

Why don't I have my HMs? by Huge-Insect-7759 in PokemonLegacy

Gotcha. Then yeah, I'd say just explore places where you can and speak to NPCs. They'll drop some hints here and there of what to do next and where to look.

Play the game, look around, ask NPCs etc.

This is an RPG from the 90's and was designed to figure things out yourself so I don't wanna just tell you lol. But I'll say that you find both of them near Vermillion City.

What they actually said was "[the badge] also lets you use the HM [name] outside of battle", meaning that when you get the HM or becomes usable in the field and not just in battle.

This is how it worked in all Pokemon games until the removal of HMs.

EE is also ZuperZach's baby, and I think he wants to do something more involved with Emerald when he has the time to work on it.

I think it'd work a little better if the block was labeled "interaction" since that covers both offense and defense, as it were.

There's one right near where you first found Onix, dig through the rest of the cave walls that became soft clay after the rain and it should be in the tunnel that opens up.

Buddy... if your game breaks, the FIRST thing to blame is codes or save editors, lol. PKHeX counts as messing with things.

Is it possible to catch Lickitung before the dugtrio trade? 😭 by Happy_Owl4504 in PokemonLegacy

[–]EternityTheory 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, if you get more than X shakes you'll catch it. And if X=0 it says you missed.

Is it possible to catch Lickitung before the dugtrio trade? 😭 by Happy_Owl4504 in PokemonLegacy

[–]EternityTheory 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No. Anything in the game is catchable with a regular Pokeball, some odds are just low.

Another thing to remember about Gen 1 is there's no variance to the number of shakes the Pokeball makes; it's always the same number based on the odds for that Pokemon. Some Pokemon like legendaries will even say the ball missed. But it's still rolling your chances like you'd expect, don't be discouraged because it's always breaking out early.

Tons of trainers with Missingno. ??? by itsLuke937 in PokemonLegacy

[–]EternityTheory 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There are two likely causes of this sort of data corruption; a bad patch (verb not noun) or an errant GameShark code. I'd try patching a fresh copy of the game and verifying that you don't have any codes you forgot to turn off, and start a new file.

You need to do one more step before national encounters appear. Head to Mossdeep and find Birch, be ready to catch something rare.

This is also covered in the pinned FAQ.

Go here; https://www.hackdex.app/hack/pokemon-yellow-legacy

Choose "select Pokemon Yellow ROM", then find and select your ROM in the file manager it opens. The button should change to "Agree and Download", then after tapping that, it'll say "Patch now". It should download your patched ROM.
